My husband & I had a long drive home this Sunday after a weekend trip, & we were both getting really hungry. Well, he can eat just about anywhere, (SAD) but I was trying to figure out where in the world I can stop and get something to take with me and eat that's raw. I finally decided on Subway. I went in & got him a sandwich and I had them make me a salad with iceberg lettuce (that's all they had), green peppers, banana peppers, red onion, cucumbers, olives, tomato, & vinegar & oil. It was SO GOOD. When travelling, this is a good place to get something quick & raw. Thought this might be helpful.

hi, glad you enjoyed it. i have also had a subway salad when desperate. one thing that makes me a little unhappy is that they charge more for a salad than for the rolls, and to be quite honest over here the salad is tiny and limp. ahh well ...

At most Subway stores you can get a bed of spinich and add vegetables to that. I also might eat a veggie delite sandwich with no cheese (this is not 100% raw).

That's a good idea, when you are traveling long distances and you run out and there is nothing around it beats going hungry.
Several times on long trips i've gotten veggie burgers at i think it was Wendy's or one of those fast food places and loaded it up with raw veggies and lettuce.
I try not to do this too often but i have done it on very long trips when i run out of food i've packed.

I'm the odd one. I will not eat at places like this. I don't trust their "produce" Actually I rarely eat out anymore. It just doesn't "agree" with me. I guess my body is so clean now. But for others, it's good to know...

yea the price is a bit ridiculous IMO, but if you're on the road it's a good choice i guess! :) it's funny how they put higher prices as they label something a "healthy choice"

I never eat out. I haven't for over a year now....
I eat before I go places : )
But I've thought about subway alot as an option. I used to get Baby Spinach salads there, and they were very good. I think what I would do is order the grilled chicken one, but have them replace the chicken with whatever amount of avocado they're allowed to substitute :)

But each time we take long trips i get better and better.
With all the recipes i'm seeing next time i will be prepared for long trips.
When i'm hungry for a long time i get nervous and jittery back it will be different with my next trip i'll pack two ice chests full:D

I have eaten the Subway veggie salads and I think it stinks the way they almost charge like you're buying a Sandwich with meat! Anyway, when I eat them I have my own raw dressing and I get the salad with no cheese of course. You also have to make them make a substantial sized salad otherwise they will just toss on the smallest amount of veggies as they can. I always ask for extra everything or the salad won't fill me up. I used to eat the salad with spinach and a little lettuce for my greens but since that spinach scare last year I have a very hard time finding spinach at any Subway in my area.:(

When I'm travelling, I try to stop at grocery stores instead of fast food type places. :) I can restock the cooler and get lots of fruit. A lot of grocery stores have salad bars these days too, if salad is what you're in the mood for. I always have a knife and small cutting board in the car for avocados and such. ;)

That's exactly what I would do if I ran out of food. Can find much more appetizing food. A lap top or cell is handy for looking up the area's grocery stores & restaurants.

Then next time we take a long trip, thanks for the idea.
In the past when traveling long distances grocery stores aren't open late at night and many times you have to get off the main road that you're traveling to find them but if i go well stocked that won't be a problem.
These are business trips and we must drive straight through many times and get there on time or it can mess things up, not a vacation trip.

Yeah, I hope to God in those situations I'll have a nice, fat, ripe avocado that can make a feast out of any lame iceberg salad with the help of some lemon wedges.

We have been on several trips that we have seen nothing but corn fields, mountains, empty spaces inbetween towns and then everything is closed up and dark and you don't want to get off the main road for fear of breaking down or getting lost.
Many times when we go on these business trips it places we've never been before so it's very easy to get lost but on future trips i will try harder and be more prepared:)
When i have eaten veggie burgers i've cleaned myself out and take digestive enzymes to help digest.

Quiznos also has fair salads. They don't use ice-berg but romaine which is nice and it's only $1.50 for a side salad of romaine and any veggies you want. It's not ideal but sometimes life isn't ideal. ;)

I say just pull to the side of the road and pick some of that corn ;)

I suppose it depends on the location. I've gotten salads at Subway that went straight into the trash. That was the last time I ever went to one. The vegetables were all old and soggy and the salad was disgusting. I did get a nice fresh salad at Wendy's the other day though.

yeah most subways do have spinach. but the oil isnt raw, its a mixture of ten percent olive oil and ninety percent canola.

I used to have subway salads and where I live they're pretty good and fresh. Nice fluffy baby spinach, tomato, onion, cucumber, and pepper. I used to put some olives and banana peppers on them when I was high raw. I didn't use any dressing.
At Wendy's I usually get 2 garden side salads. They are 1.09 each, so if you want a third it is no large expenditure.

I don't mess around:)
This time we will take more variety and we won't be tempted.
I'm looking forward to our next trip and thanks for the idea of the salad, we could have had that but i had heard so much bad news about the salads so i thought it would be better to go with the fixing that we had left over. Well we did pile over veggies over the veggie burgers:)
Next year we will have two ice chest full of raw things to munch on:)
