I had the munchies tonight, but felt like I'd eaten tons today and didn't want anything heavy.... but I wanted something salty. And I found it. Oddly enough, I found it in a salad. Or, more specifically, a salad dressing.
Backstory: Last night, I dragged my brother to a restaurant I'd been wanting to try. There, I discovered this absolutely amazing salad dressing; lo and behold, when I asked our server about it, they have the recipe on the website - www.pacificrimbykana.com. (On a pleased note, I guessed all the ingredients in it!) So.... modifying a bit to make it raw...
1 c nama shoyu
1 c ACV
1/2 c agave (you can do this to taste)
2 T sesame oil
1 scallion, finely minced (I used onion powder because I was in a hurry...)
1 T sesame seeds
1 t chili powder
Just whisk it all together.
This stuff is fabulous. It's salty and just a bit sweet and spicy; it's also really thin but seems to cling to lettuce nicely. Just a touch does it! Totally cured my salty foods craving. I never would have thought I'd find the answer to that craving in a SALAD! :D

Well DUH. I guess i must have been more tired than i thought. I know what that is. Use it all the time. ACV. I just got back from a few days with my sis and hubby and had not slept well due to all the sad foods i was eating. Kept me awake most of the night. I was really tired and so my brain was not working. Thanks Veganforlife. Maybe all the Sad food created a brain fog also. Whatever it was i am now back on the Raw way of eating and going to enjoy it and try to remember how i felt while doing Sad. Sad sad sad.
I for sure am going to make this today. it sounds great.

I made 1/4 of your asian dressing tonight and poured it over a huge bag of organic spinach (without the bag...:D ). YUM, YUM, AND YUM!!! I like it hot, so added 2 teaspoons of crushed red chile pepper instead of the chili powder. It was soooooo good! Thanks for sharing!

This my family's favorite dressing! Does it have a name? My kids call it the dark dressing cause it's so dark in color, but I'd love to know a real name for this! We use a touch less AVC in ours. And we found we like it better with the onion powder instead of fresh scallion. My 'about to turn 6' yr old loves it! I do too, but here's what I do! ;)
First, it works really well to make this in one of those salad dressing carafes where you pour in the stuff, close it up, and shake well. We have the pampered chef type that has the whisk inside and you pump that up and down to re-mix the ingredients.
So, anyway- I make this lovely "dark dressing" up, and then I make a separate batch of tahini dressing/dip in my small food processor (equal parts tahini and water, lemon juice to taste, little bit of olive or sesame oil, sea salt and garlic- make sure it's still a bit thick).
Then, I transfer the tahini dressing/dip into a tupperware container and add some of the first dressing to it. Stir well and taste, see if you need more of the dark dressing based on taste or consistency. You still have lots of the dark dressing left over to use alone!
This mixture is so good though, that I have to make it regularly for my SAD eating sister. She got so burnt out on bottled salad dressings, but can eat tons of salad with this mixture!:D We practically lick the bowl!!!

Wow this is a great dressing!
i put this on a cucumber salad and it's amazing! i'm eating it right now :)
I've just made it and it's wonderful. I love it that although it's sweet it hasn't got too much sweetener in it, and it's only got a little oil -- it's soooo tasty.

OK - I just made this. I didn't have any greens, but I did have a head of broccoli. So, I mixed some of this dressing with my broccoli and it was delicious!
Thanks for sharing!
PS...a little goes a long way, like she posted.
thanks for posting! can't wait to try it!

The dressing can make all the difference sometimes...
each time it's slightly different and has it's own unique taste.
I just use some kind of fresh-squeezed citrus juice like orange as a base (I've even made a raspberry puree if I wanna go for a raspberry-walnut flavor or something similar), avage nectar as a sweetener, some balsamic (my favorite vinegar), olive or grapeseed oil, shaken up with whatever dry herbs compliment the mood I'm in...
It's amazing how some simple items can make such a good flavor.

Has any one tried this without the Nama Shoyu? I don't use that or tamari...any recommendations for a substitute?

You could substitue with Celtic sea salt. 1 tsp of Nama Shoyu = approximately 1/4 tsp sea salt. 1 Tablespoon Nama Shoyu = approximatley 3/4 tsp sea salt.

I'm also not using any soy products and am wondering if I use the salt, what I should I use to replace that amount of liquid? Any suggestions?

water
If I use any soy sauce or nama shoyu type thing, which I would use only when I was having raw sushi really then I dilute it with water anyway.
