Hey Joy! Ok, this is scaaaaary.....I was just thinking of this same topic today! It doesn't help that the Olive Garden is having their shrimp special on now, and the commercial runs about every 5 minutes on the telly! I'm also curious about alternative sources of iodine...

kelp and other sea veggies are loaded with iodine!

Iodine: seavegetables. Nori, dulse and the whole lot. Also think about spirulina, kelp and/or other algae tablets/powder...

Could be some kind of protein/calcium craving (shrimps are full of that). Upping your greens may help, adding more sesame (calcium) to your diet and/or taking spirulina.

Yay for sea veggies!! I just had some nori today, so I guess I'm going in the right direction! Now if I could only get those Olive Garden commercials out of my head....

Nori is the only thing helping me with my sushi addiction. I am almost there.

There is a recipe floating around her from mock crab cakes...would that do? Take a peek under the banana...

I've been living on Nori rolls to help with the fish/shellfish/Sushi cravings.

I can't seem to get enough Nori. I have been salmon free for two weeks now and the Nori helps but sometimes I literally dream about sushi. I try to make a raw version at home and I don't enjoy it as much. I go to a sushi bar and order meatless, riceless sushi and it is divine. Should I bother fighting it if it is raw?

If it involves nuts, I can't stomach it. I have tried MANY different nut recipes and they all taste like nuts to me. The mock tuna taste likes nuts. The mock salmon taste like nuts. The taco meat taste like nuts. The eggless salad taste like nuts. Everything taste like nuts.....I think I am missing a valuable taste bud some where.

I bought 100 sheets of raw Nori the other day. That's how bad I crave it.

What do you put in yours? Do you have a good dipping sauce?

I put avocado, cucumber, sprouts (mungbean and other greener sprouts), green onion, red onion, minced garlic, red pepper and either a creamy type dressing (made with cashew or macadamia) or a seed pate. Sometimes I just mix up a simple wasabe and raw soy sauce. Last week I made a mango chutney, but that was actually better with falafel.

I will have to try the wasabe and soy sauce. I live avocado and cucumber in mine and I did try spiral raw beets last week. What's in wasabe? I know it's hot.

Wasabi is a Japanese (root) horseradish. I buy it in powdered form at most stores (health food stores mostly). You basically mix with water to make a paste. Dont buy it premade in a tube, its usually not pure.

Thanks Everyone For The Great Advice. In The Mornings I Have A Fruit Smoothie Maybe I Need Some Greens In There Too. Can Anyone Give Me A Easy Green Smoothie Recipe? I Will Look For The Nori Sheets. I Am Going To The Health Food Store Today.
Thanks Again,
Joy

Stacie, I know what you mean about those nuts. I had made one of Ani Phyo recipes and it was the breakfast scramble, all I could taste was nuts. I like nuts but it just doesn't remind me of meat or an omelet at that.

It's true. I can put a million spices in it and all I taste is nuts. I am glad others are experiencing the same thing.....I was starting to think people were just nuts!

Sorry, couldn't help myself. You know what else I found....all the nuts taste the same to me. Once they are ground up, I can't tell the difference between a walnut and an almond. Maybe my taste buds have been injured from all the SAD food I have eaten my whole life.

ya..

avocado is awesome; finely shredded carrot and beet ; finely chopped greens; cauliflower finely ground..;cucumbers in small pieces;sea salt .;.umeboshe plums (i am thinking about now..)
(i wonder if they are raw..i think they are..only a little..)a bit goes a long way of this stuff..
almost anything goes.. but it lends itself more to salty things than sweet, i think..

I guess that's why I like Nori/sushi so much. I am a salt person.

at pure food and wine they make a "rice" for the rolls with jicama and pine nuts ground together. i think pistachios would be even better but... it was amazing. sushi was the hardest thing to give up.

This one's good too (what, did I say good? I meant: fantastic!) and soooo easy:
thin long slices of cucumber and carrot, some avocado and alfalfa on nori sheet(s). Roll up and cut.

For the dressing:
blend (in the machine) a bit of honey (or some other sweetner), sesame, olive or sesame oil, garlic, unpasteurized brown rice miso, ginger, lemon or orange juice to taste.

Poor over the nori rolls and eat.
The nori rolls by itself are nice, but it's the dressing that makes it divine.

I stuffed myself to death (o, I mean health) with this when I first started raw!
It's sooooo delicious.

Oh good! I have a bunch of nori and wasabi powder I want to use, and I'm trying to figure out how to get more sea veggies into my diet & I love me some veggie sushi.

I have some dulse I'm trying to figure out what to do with. Gonna go use the banana!
