HI everyone. I'm new and finding the forum really helpful. I'm wondering what in my natural foods store is raw (besides the obvious fruit & veggies..etc)
In particular, are these likely to be raw?:
*Almond Milk
*Hemp Milk
*Are any canned goods raw? (pumpkin, saurkraut..)
*Are there any premade raw crackers or flatbreads?

The ony raw almon butter offered here is the Maranatha & it is very expensive. Does anyone have a good resource for almond butter?

Thank you so much!

Hi,

If you have a vitamix blender you can make nut butters in it. This includes almond butter. You might also consider looking online through mail order and see if you can order a couple of things and make it worthwhile.

Hey! Welcome.
Unless the nut mylks are made there and sold within 2-3 days, I'm thinking they are pasteurized/processed somehow.
The nut butter brand you mentioned has been discussed in length and was determined not to be raw.
Yep, there are pre-made raw crackers from various on-line sources:
www.naturalzing.com
www.gorawcafe.com
To name a couple...
Hope this helps. I've also made my own nut butter. I've taken my soaked almonds, put them in my Vita-Mix ('ya need a high speed blender) and ground them. It can get hot, but I've put the cannister in the fridge to cool it for a bit, then chop some more. Repeating the cooling, chopping a few times until it gets to the consistency I want.
Oh - canned goods? Nope, they've been vacuumed packed (processed). sorry.

yes, i am relatively new to raw and have been mostly using fresh fruits and veggies..but i am thinking ahead for the months when so much will not be available..and also have been checking stores to see what i can find which is raw..

most things i think are pasturized..if they are in cans or jars..

one possiblity may be some ..i mean some frozen fruits in the frozen section..

frozen veggies are often blanched..but i think that fruits are fresh frozen.

this is something worth further investigation, which i will do and post my findings..here..cuz this is a fine sharing forum.

have just made almond milk with store bought raw almonds.
the process is pretty simple..
and can be stored in the fridge.. i think it can probably be frozen, also, if you do it on your own.
i am pretty sure, as was mentioned, that the stuff in the stores has been pasturised.

i am in the process of finding 'store brought raw pickles'
and eventually making my own raw pickles , which i do believe can be frozen to keep them longer...will do that also,..to keep a supply on hand..i think.

good question..

I have a cheapo round dehydrator and I can make the flax crackers and onion bread with it ('cept I'm burned out on them.) There is a recipe on here for rawritos (corn chips) I am told that the raw crackers in the HFS are outrageously expensive. There are other recipes that can be made with the cheaper equipment as well although I am really waiting for the day that I can afford the equipment that Alissa sells as it is the top of the line and necessary for many of the recipes. There is a whole world to be discovered here. You may choose to make your own fermented foods like sauerkraut - much healthier than store bought.
