Hello, I have been sprouting just a few weeks (4 or so). I have been using organic soil. I have been putting the soil in a garbage can (from Ann Wigmore's book). I don't think the worms survived. I am concerned about having enough soil for winter because the stores around here will stop selling the soil soon. Does anyone re-use their soil? If you don't use soil what do you use? Thank you!

RE worms: make sure soil/compost is always moist, and that ants can't get to them. (I know I've had ants get to my garbage can compost and have a worm banquet. :( )I'm assuming you have holes in can for ventilation?

Soil is okay to reuse, but it'll have fewer nutrients after the first use, and thus so will whatever you're trying to grow. If you use soil that's been composted, tho, then it's perfectly fine.

Just wondering: do you live in an apt that you can't stock up on soil? I make one bag last a while, but then again, I just do a few trays of wheatgrass/week. Don't know how much you're growing.
