I am dying to try a recipe for fridge cookies that calls for date paste but I can't find it at the HFS. The recipe says you can make date paste in the juicer, but I only have a blender and a food processor. Anyone know how I can do this?

I believe you can just food process a whole lot of dates together? Maybe add a bit of water if they get stuck or aren't turning.
I honestly never bought date paste and I think making it yourself with a food processor should work just fine. I use my magic bullet to blend dates all the time. It's quite yummy! Good luck and let us know how the cookies turn out!

I can't imagine juicing dates. They are not that watery. I too feel that using a high-speed blender would make what you need. How much does the recipe call for?

date paste is just dates processed with a bit of water. you can use your FP or if you have a good blender you can use that. if you are using harder, or dried dates, which need to be soaked first, you can use the soak water. you dont need too much water... add it slowly... just to get it moving & creamy.

Great--thanks for the help.. I was thinking/hoping the FP would work. I am just new to RAW and getting the hang of un-cooking and new ingredients! Lucy, to answer your question, I need 1 cup.

Depending on the dates? Medjool - the big wrinkly ones? One cup of medjools is about 9 dates, but FP or Vita-Mixed (blended) I bet that will produce less then a cup. Add your water a little at a time to make the paste. If it gets too runny, add another date or two.
Check your dates for little critters. Worms. No biggie. They gotta eat too. I usually scrap the worm off and rinse the date off. Also check for mold. Some get mold on them. No biggie again. I don't however use those dates. That's a small price to pay for fresh - good - living foods.

Are there likely places to buy date paste without importing 50 kilos from Saudi Arabia?
A recipe calls for 8 ounces of dates, about how many is that ? Durn recipe doesnt say if that is weight or volume.....
date paste should be easier!
cheers
