I am hungary all the time now. I really enjoy the green smoothies and could drink them all day. However, how much is too much? What is a good size for each smoothie, and how many per day? I am afraid i am going to gain weight from eating too much friuts and veggies because I feel so hungary all the time. How many calories are in the average green smoothie?

If your gs is just fruit and greens I don't think you can drink enough to gain weight.

I am very active so I need a lot of calories. My gs today had 8 bananas, 5 dates and 1/2 large head of romaine lettuce. I usually have two of those in a day, another meal of 8 or 10 oranges and then a big salad at night.

Hello there Raw friend:)
Good news! No such thing as too much green smoothie! but I'd highly encourage you to do a variety of greens in those smoothies. Many people do a fast-like cleanse consuming nothing but g.s.'s successfully for many, many months. It's nothing but a fast track to vibrant health. Any unpleasant symptons can be chalked up to detoxing.
I found myself consuming a whole Vitamix blender pitcher of g.s. over the course of the morning and wondered if I was going overboard. I started a thread just like you did asking and found out that's pretty much the norm. People do drink lots of lots of this life-giving substance. Trust me, if my out-of-control appetite is being healed and regulated by eating raw, yours will be too! So, slurp as much or as little as you'd like. And if there's any left over, fridge it for later or the next day. The fiber protects it from oxidizing.
And, congratulations! You have entered the wonderful world of raw and never need to count calories again! Counting calories is meaningless. It doesn't take into account whether the calorie dead or alive. The enzyme factor is significant.
Love, Stina

I never felt like a whole country before. :D

But seriously, a green smoothie is just raw veggies and fresh fruit. You can't eat too many raw veggies and fresh fruit so you can't have too many smoothies either. ;) Just make sure your smoothies aren't all fruit, so add in enough veggies -- and use a variety of different vegetables every day.

I concur with the above postings. Nope, can get enough (too much) of a good thing - that is for sure. In fact your body is loving you for this. Try increasing your water intake too. A lot of times when we think we are hungry? We are thirsty.

Jeeez!!! What took you so long. Was saving a place here for you. You're late!!!

I'm thinking you mean "can't" get enough of a good thing? Or am I reading wrong? :D

I'm pretty new to the smoothie routine. I'm fine with figuring out what fruits to add but what veggies are good besides spinach?

I know you can add some fruit juice too but can anyone tell me what goes with cranberry juice?

Thanks!

Don't worry about weight gain. Just use your common sense....I prooved you can get too much of a good thing yesterday with all the plethra of raw goodness that I listed and talked about on yesterday...Even if it is good green goodness..too much is just too much...don't wait for the stomach ache to stop ya.. The green smoothies won't disappear if you decide to take a break for a moment:D

I loooove kale (always making sure to add in at least one ripe banana to ensure no bitterness from the kale), with fresh pineapple, a few frozen strawberries (and water, of course).

I'm not sure what would go with cranberry juice- Sorry. Have you tried a search using the banana (at the top of the page) for ideas?

Good Luck!

Kale, Swiss chard, wheatgrass, Romaine lettuce.

If you can get a hold of it (I used our awesome interlibrary loan), 12 Steps to Raw by Victoria Boutenko has several green smoothie recipes to get you started. She also has a book, I think called Green for Life that may have even more. (I haven't read that one myself.)

How many calories are in the average green smoothie?

However many you want. I have mine w/ 2 bananas and a half bunch kale, plus a tablespoon coconut oil and 2 Tblsp sesame seed. I'm bfing and need the extra fat/calories, so the added fat brings what would be only 215 calories to about 425.

I was wondering this myself. I was thinking my BM might turn green..

I've been enjoying parsley in my green smoothies! So far I've only tried spinach and parsley though. Next will have to try some kale since everyone's always raving about it!

Mine is ALWAYS green. If you look at animals poo, not that I make a habit of it, but in the wild I happen upon it and it's green.
Green is good! Whether it's what you are taking in or eliminating.

How many calories are in the average green smoothie?

It really depends on what you put in it. My smoothies are not sweet and I dont like bananas so they are probably less calories than the average green smoothie. Calories doesnt matter anyway. Why trouble yourself about it?

Greens I put in my smoothies:
arugula
romaine
green and red leaf lettuce
dandelion
various salad greens from my garden (don't know all the names)
spinach

I'm not a big fan of kale. I use chard sometimes. I like to use greens that I could eat a pile of by itself, rather than force myself to eat something that tastes bad.

I never would have put arugula in a smoothie, but a whole bunch came up in my garden so I tried it. It is soooo goood in there! It adds a very interesting flavor.

Me too....I judge how I am doing on RAW by my BM's. If it's not green, I drink more green smoothies.

Does your BM have to be green?? This is new to me. Sometimes its green and sometimes its not despite the green smoothies. If I eat more fruit in a day, its not green.

Oh no, not all all, but since this is primarily what I eat all day long, mine are. Usually like a deep blue/green, like the spirulina color. Way too much info here...hahahaha!

Trader Joe sells this southern mix in a bag. It has mustard, turnip, and I think chard. I always dump this into the blender with the fruits. Weird thing is it tastes like green apple!

I LOVE pre packaged greens! OMG I'll try that mix from trader joe's.

Maybe I'll get some almond butter while I'm there......

wheatgrass
That's an interesting idea, putting wheat grass into your smoothie. What fruits do you like with it. Does it seem to work OK ? Anyone else using wheatgass in their smoothies ?

When I take WG, I take it on a empty stomach, making sure I salivate it before swallowing, then chase it down with juice with water. If you take it with food, or eat too soon after (its recommended to not eat 30min-1hour after taking WG) its not as effective and nausea and vomiting is a common side effect. I never put it in smoothies because of that.
