I would like to know what you use more of, raw honey or agave necter? Which one is the preferred to make deserts with? I am stocking my pantry with the raw products and would appreciate your input on these two products.
thank you
Jo

I'm vegan, so I use raw agave nectar. I use the Madhava brand.

I also prefer agave nectar. I like that it's neutral in flavor whereas honey has a more distinctive flavor to it. It's also easier to work with...not as thick and sticky. Sometimes I also just use dates.

I like agave because it has a certain sugary sweetness that honey doesn't have. It also blends in easier with drink recipes whereas honey is more of a big glob.

Just don't spill agave!!!! That stuff does NOT come off carpet or walls without A LOT of work. My 3 yr old decided she wanted honey in her water and got the agave and poured about 2 ounces into a cup and added water (because it is thin it runs easy). It got spilled and ended up all over my carpet and somehow on my wall. Bleck! It was awful to get out of the carpet (and we have a rule about never eating or drinking on the carpet too!)

I use agave, since I'm vegan. Or dates. Agave is much lower on the glycemic index than honey, so if you're concerned with your weight or blood sugar then agave is probably a better choice. It's also usually cheaper :D

We use them both but in different ways. Agave in smoothies (runnier) and honey in granola bars, pie crust, etc (stickier). Honey has a much sweeter intensity so agave is preferred if you just want a little sweet or are trying to cut the acid in a dish...ie marinara sauce. Either way just try to find RAW on the label. I made that mistake when I was first starting and had to use up a big bottle of both! DOH!

I use agave and dates depending on what I am making. I love agave, the gentle flavor just works so well in everything I've used it in.

I am not vegan, but I prefer agave to honey. I use both though, and I also use dates. It depends on the recipe and the consistency I'm looking for. :)
I'm divided on the issue.
Agave: is easier to use in the recipes that I sweeten. It has a lower glycemic level. It doesn't add a strong flavor, only sweetness. It is not an animal product.
Honey: is produced locally. Buying local raw honey helps my neighbors, doesn't use gas for transporting it, and costs a lot less initially and in the long run for the area where I live.
If I lived in an area where agave were being produced locally that probably would be my choice rather than the honey. I no longer buy transported honey.
