I started the raw food challenge about five days ago. My goal was to just begin at 75% raw. Surprisingly I've been at 90-95% raw and I have gained 1 1/2 pounds. Someone please tell me what is going on? Am I eating too much raw food?
HELP! I won't continue if I gain any more weight. I've never eaten this healthy before.

Hey! First - congrads on jumping into raw.
Second - ditch the scale. Your body is detoxing. DO NOT worry. The weight will come off. Don't cave and quit eating raw. Two words: green smoothies - that will help you eliminate weight.

You need to change your name to: 2wordsgreensmoothie...it's getting ingranined in my brain...does not sound tasty at all, but what the heck is in it?
Btw, had 3 bm's yesterday one would think one would lose 1/2 lb from that alone. Maybe I'm eating too much fat? ie: 1 tbsp. flaxaseed in the morning, averaging 1 avocado, 1 tbsp. coconut oil and I made a nut/fig trail mix which I grazed on all day, the rest was salad, etc...too much food perhaps?
Boo hoo ;-(

The weight will come off. When I was high raw for about 8 or so months I almost got too skinny but I had the body I had when I was 18. Cellulite vanished and the fat in my tummy diminished. Just be patient!

Well, it sounds like too much fat to me if you want to lose the weight.
Alissa says in her book that people won't gain weight eating raw, but she probably meant 100% raw. She also says that if you want to lose, eliminate or reduce the nuts and extra oils. I don't think she was referring to avocado when she said 'oils'. I believe she meant the coconut oil, olive oil, flax seed oil, etc.

I lost weight when I was not 100% raw (but about 80-90%) I also ate lots of fat daily including avocadoes, nuts, oils, seeds etc. and I still lost weight. It is different for everyone.
Now that I am not high raw anymore I have gained a little bit of weight but I am still not back to my pre-raw weight because I am still eating a lot of the healthy things I ate when I was into raw foods.

you can't cut out all the fats, a healthy body needs the good fats to function the right way. I say ditch the scale for now. Go 100% raw and stay away from the scale for a month. Do not let a daily number run your life. At one point in life I was so focused on the number on my scale, it caused me to harm my body in so many ways by the way I was or wasn't eating.
Strive for 100% raw and after your body fully adjusts to this lifestyle, then start to change your diet by adding or taking out certai things. You will reach a point where you learn to listen to your body and it will tell you just what it wants/needs.

As Veganforlife said, ditch that scale. You're new to raw foods and thus, your body is going to make adjustments. Each body has an idea weight range...my range is 124-128. Depending on what's going on, what I'm eating or not eating, "that time" of the month, if I'm working out or not...my weight can shift anywhere but it always stays within that range and so, I have allowed that range.
But you have to realize, the raw and living foods "diet" is a healing "diet" (way of eating not "DIET/diet" in the sense that many think of) and that's what it's going to go after first and foremost...healing and cleansing internally. Sometimes this process may or may not (depending) cause a fluctuation in weight. Also, weight can occur from OTHER factors besides what you are eating or not eating. It can occur from stress, muscle mass, water retention and more! If you decided to go raw ONLY for weight loss, then you can do that with any diet out there. But if you decided on this for health as well as weight loss, then please try and be patient with your body. Allow the adjustment period...allow the healing, cleansing and rebuilding process and trust that eventually, the weight will come off...maybe not as quickly as you want it to, but it will. But watching the scale every day or even every week may cause some frustration because again, as your body is making adjustments and changes, that scale may read off numbers that you don't want to see. So, look for other changes, look for how differently your clothes fit on you and just monitor other areas without the scale for a while.
Just my opinion!

I started green smoothies with 2 bananas and about 3 large kale leaves. It was delicious! Not too sweet, and not at all bitter. Now I'm up to 2 bananas and a half bunch of kale. You have to work your way up to drinking that much greens at once, one b/c they're so full of nutrition they'll send you into detox if your body's not used to them, and two b/c you have to get used to the stronger green flavor.
Of course you can use any dark leafy greens (including romaine lettuce) and any fruit. I'd recommend starting w/bananas b/c of the sweetness.
A green smoothie is now all I want for breakfast. It's filling, tasty, and energy-giving. HTH. :)
