Look, I know booze is bad for me, and I really don't drink a lot, but one thing I am really missing is beer. I know wine is raw, but I am looking for some other raw alcoholic options. Liquor and beer are what I'm wondering about. Is there any raw beer out there? Raw liquor?

umm its not awful its beer!
the first known recipe in the world is for beer!
I love beer all the fancy kinds especially trappist beers!
I drink wine alot and I drink beer not as much cause its a heavy drink to me now but I dont think you should say its awful. Although some beers like hieniken and lowenbrua? and some others are animal tested! So do your research.

Haha! I love beer. That's why I want to find maybe a cold brewed raw beer if it exists.... I just meant I know for health reasons, it's not exactly what I should be drinking, and that's what I meant by awful.... I don't actually think beer is an awful thing or I wouldn't be on a quest for something raw............
I HAVE done my research on VEGAN beer.... I have been animal cruelty free for many years..... I'm just curious about the world of RAW in front of me... please, if you have a helpful suggestion, let me know... Otherwise, I'm a really defensive person sometimes, please don't be rude.

I love you Starfire. :p You rock my socks off!
That's awesome that your hubby is a home brewer! Yeah, I really just don't know much about the process. I have just looked up about what I could and could not drink when I first went vegan, but raw is still just so new to me. :)

I have had a wine-arita which is a margarita made with white wine instead of tequila. It was tasty! The one I had was before I went RAW and it was at a "Taste of" festival so I know it wasn't raw but how about - lime juice, white wine, ice and maybe use agave or raw honey to sweeten it up a bit. That sounds sort of good. Maybe this weekend I will have to try that by the pool. I just impressed myself - this is only my 14th day raw. I guess I am getting more creative, of course, due to this forum. Everyone has been great.
Sadly, all liquor is distilled -- that is, all liquor is cooked. Don't know about the beer making process except that when Mr Asil used to home brew, he used a cooked method. But maybe there are other ways?

you could consider Unpasteurized Beer. As raw as nama shoyu really.
Part of what usually makes beer not raw in myunderstanding is that the grains are cooked before the whole beermaking process. Other ingredients like hops are always raw. Then it is cultured/fermented, etc. Now most commercially mass produced beer is pasteurized after fermentation.
But if you look for a nice unpasteurized microbrew from a small or specialty company, that's sort of half-ass raw like some other things many of us round here consume on occasion.
There are some nice lambics from Belgium which are fermented in open vats left to the natural yeasts in the air, made with fruit and beer together, such as black cherry, passionfruit, raspberry, etc.
Then there are some good old plain unpasteurized beers, pilsners, lagers, etc. Creemore Springs from Ontario is an example, no additives, no preservatives, no pasteurization, made with good spring water. It has to be delivered in refrigerated trucks and is kept in fridges in the stores. And it's darn good fer sure! Worth checking out!
In Ontario Canada we're fortunate in our "communist" LOL government-controlled liquor stores that we have a gorgeous array of microbrew beers available, and you can shop for them by the single bottle if you wish, so you can come out of there with a real variety. I have found many european beers that are unpasteurized, many unfiltered, etc. Some amazing wheat beers, white beers, etc. Ooh la la, I have maybe like a few all summer but you're making me crave them now. And it's a little early in the day to start! Some have the spent yeast remnants on the bottom of the bottle and it's supposed to be good to shake them up and drink all that, not pasteurized like nutritional yeast.
According to one of my old university professors, beer is actually one of the most nutritious foods. Excess alcohol is clearly not good, and especially for those under 25 years of age according to a renowned brain expert. In some rigorous scientific studies the benefit of lowering cholesterol from small alcohol consumption has been demonstrated.
I would say if you've gotta have it, see if you can find a good source for microbrew beers from little companies, and find something unpasteurized, no additives, etc... I've also found the alcohol content can vary greatly, from a "vintage ale" with a whopping 12% to a wheat beer I'm looking at now at 8.2% to a lambic that's only 3.5%, so if alcohol is a concern, you could also try to get something on the low side.
Cheers!;)

Hey All!
I LOVE alcohol too... (please don't block me from the forums, I'm in college)
Definitely check out the book Raw Food Real World. It's awesome. They use only raw wine in their recipes, but they have a ton of recipes for fancy drinks like margaritas and martinis where all the ingredients are raw and the alcohol used is a raw wine. Love it.
Sorta off topic, but do you know where I could find a list of vegan/nonvegan beer?
Thanks so much.
And I really hope I haven't offended anyone. I'm not perfect, but I'm trying.

My husband is a Homebrewing Master and Beer is not raw, there is a pretty intense boiling process and that includes the grains and hops. Citroc (ZVodka) is cold fermented grapes and is (supposedly) raw as wine is. It is very good, clean and crisp. Great as a Grapetini with frozen Grape Garnish.

my understanding is that all UNFILTERED beer is vegan, Vann167.
If you're young don't drink too much. The damage to your brain is greater before age 25 than after age 25.
