Help! I just agreed to host a family get together at our lake home!! It is about 60 miles from here, in a small town and it seems like 1/2 the town is my family.
Being some-what new to the Raw lifestyle, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for raw dishes that most of the SAD eaters won't turn their nose up to. Eveyone brings thier own meats:( to grill out, but I have always made most of the side dishes/desserts. I would like to make a few raw dishes not just for myself, but also so that my family can see that this isn't just some new fad of eating fruit and salad. I want them to understand the lifestyle I have decided upon and for them to see that it isn't something odd.
Any suggestions?

Well, i have just been experimenting with sushi.
.it is FAR OUT and makes dishes which are attractive and nutritious and ones which folks on other diets can both appreciate and enjoy.
Today i took sheets of Nori and make a long snake like line of finely grated carrot, some salt,a bit of avocado and finely chopped parsley rolled it up into a tube, wet the edge and sealed it into a long roll, and then cut bite size sushi pieces with a pair of scissors.
The little round sushi bits looked so pretty , packed with their bright orange contents.with flecks of green..mmmm...and they tasted so good and were such tidy finger food.
simple to make,,can be made ahead of time..
what could be better
You could make a bunch of different fillings , from avocado to nut pates, to all kinds of possibilities., add ginger or horseradish to some to zip them up...and put them on platters with lettuce and flower garnishes.
am i getting your idea planner charged up?
make your display focus on color , color, color..!!everywhere !!
bowls of cut up fruit, coconut, edible flowers, mint,
there are a few ideas.

Thanks Alice for getting the ball rolling, I think I went into a mini panic when my S/O called and said he had just gotten of the phone with my dad and they had planned this get together. Funny how "they planned it" and I am the one that has to worry about everything lol.

ohhh..ideas have been going round and round in my little brain..
how about a ( not sure if rawies would approve of this, or if it is feasible..
i am just raw dreaming, i guess ..)
how about a raw (but melted to low temperature) chocolate fondue with strawberries and small pieces of frozen banana and perhaps other fruit pieces with toothpicks...in trays around for dipping.
i have never done or experienced such a thing..but for lots of people who may be visiting different tables of goodies, or barbeque ( for their meat ) and goodies tables for dessert and , um crudites..
once again, with lots of flowers and colors all around everywhere.!

It looks delish and I want some now!!!! I'll top it with fresh strawberries tomorrow. I can't wait to try it. I must say, it was an interesting process to make it:cool:
