Sometimes I get coconuts and they taste great, and other times the taste a little like SOAP. Anyone have any thoughts, are they bad then? I know if they don't have any water in them they are bad but how else can I tell. They are expensive and a pain to return all the time, had to do that once already. Thanks Susan

I have never had any that tasted like soap so I can't help you with that, but if I ever take a taste and it isn't the sweet refreshing taste that I expect then I would probably spit out whats in my mouth and toss the rest.
They are expensive.
I buy my coconuts at an asian market in my neighborhood where the price per young coconut is $1.29 each. I just got 4 of them today. :)

That is funny you say that. I've always told my husband that I think Extra Virgin Coconut Oil tastes like soap. He always says, "How would you know how soap tastes?" But that's the best way I can describe it - soapy.
I don't remember what fresh coconuts taste like, but I know I've never been real fond of the taste.

I make sure the young coconuts I buy are free from brown spots or mold. The place I get them from have them in the refrigerated section and I store them in the refrigerator and havent had a problem since. HTH

all i know is, if the meat inside is in any way a 'pinky' colour than you should toss it all out.
