Are Lara Bars considered raw? I am going on a long flight and trip for a week and wanting to pack some easy access food. What are your thoughts on Lara bars. They won't be replacing my meals but I would probly be eating about 1 or 2 a day. Thanks for any input. All my thanks, pink rosebud.

There's a lot of controversy about this. I feel it's a good transition food. I don't eat them anymore...only because I'm 100% raw.

MOST larabars are raw chocolate mole is not raw.

There is a better one than the larabar itsa slightly larger and not in a bar shape. but just as handy in a pinch. I cant think of the name off the top of my head...

Oh I know .. an apple

i love lara bars. i think they are a good transition food and they are raw right?

however, if your worried you can get some nuts, dried fruit, cinnamon, ginger, etc etc and make your own homemade larabars. cheaper, fresh and maybe more delicious! make some trail mix too to take.

There are also the Raw Revolution bars:

Not sure how raw any of these things truly are, but I eat them for now... once in a while.

They're NOT organic!!!

Their Chocolate Coffee, JocaLat Bar is organic. Maybe they are moving to organic ingredients.

Their website says the Jocalat bars are only 90% raw.

I've asked my "Raw Guru" here in Ottawa. She is a strict raw foodist, and yes, her response was that these are 100% raw.

any larabars with chocolate are not 100% raw, the cocoa is roasted.

and ive heard that the juice in the lemon and keylime are pasteurized.

yea they were on sale, that's why i couldn't resist :S I guess the cashew/date or cashew/cherry ones are all right and 100% raw..hmm they're good now and then :D

P.S. if i did want to make a bar like that myself- who would i do it? blend nuts with cherries/dates and...freeze? hmm i don't have a dehydrator :/

hmm. theyd probably just set in the fridge, id think. the dates make it pretty thick.

you still never know if the nuts and dried fruit they use in them are actually raw.... but again it is a transition food, raw bars are really helping me out right now but probably one day i will stop eating them. :)

the ones i listed above i trust to be 100% raw.
the smart monkey bars are made by ani phyo, she has a raw food recipe book too. shed never put anything that wasnt raw into her bars :)

hm i want to find those monkey bars! i love ani's recipes- the kurry dressing...oh my, goes on all my salads.

True- you never know if those cashews were raw in Lara's bars.. but it does say RAW on the package

sometimes when packaged items say raw they just mean that no heat was used in the process of MAKING them.... but not necessarily that each ingredient is guaranteed to be raw :)

&yeah, the kurry dressing is amazing. :p

Yeah, they say they're raw, but then again I've also seen products labeled "vegan" that contain honey or (non-vegan) sugar, or products labeled "vegetarian" that contain fish!

This is from the FAQ on the Lara Bar website:

"Are cashews truly raw?
Heat steaming is often used to extract the cashew nut from the fruit of the tree. It's not known for certain whether or not the nut is actually heated during the process. Regardless, we feel that cashews are loaded with vitamins and minerals and fit into a healthy diet.

Does LARABAR use raw cocoa?
LARABAR does not use raw cocoa powder at this time. Because of LARABAR's unique flavor profile as well as the challenge of finding a quality and consistent supply, we have chosen to use cocoa powder from a roasted cocoa bean. We feel the health benefits, including high antioxidant content, far outweigh the fact that the cocoa has been heated."

So maybe...maybe the ones without cashews or cocoa are raw... but yeah, who knows if the lemon/lime has been pasteurized. But they still have some raw ingredients...better than most energy bars anyway!

I made some really good granola bars by pressing the mixture into an 8x8" brownie pan with waxed paper in the bottom. Then turning on my oven to 150 then when it reached that temp shutting it off & then placing them inside and waiting til the oven cooled off. Worked pretty good! They don't get dry dry, but I like them a little moist anyway.
