I had friends over last night. It was a SAD party:D mixed with raw. One of my friends was telling me about her health concerns (long list) and I shared what I was doing. I showed her Alissa's book and had to get up to help with a baby. When I got back to her, she was reading the book. She said, "I could never do this diet," (It's not a diet). "You can't have..." She started naming off things. It dawned on me right at that moment that I didn't feel deprived. When I started incorporating more raw into my diet and trying to learn dehydrating and new recipes, I did not really think of what I was "giving up" except maybe bloating and break-outs. I haven't eaten bread in a while, or cheese, or sugar. I have been filling up on natural sugars in fruits, nuts in smoothies and brownies, flax crackers and avacados in salads, and veggie juices.
She talked about "no brownies" . I said that I had made a wonderful, yummy raw walnut, date, chocolate brownie that satisfied all my cravings. She said that she could not eat walnuts or dates. Well,...the conversation kind of dwindled from there.
I know that she is not where I am. It took me years to get to this point. I am not judging her. I am just frustrated when someone is obviously seeking help for illness, but does not have ears to hear what might just be the answer.

As a society we've been duped.
It really is amazing that and individual would prefer a box of BEtty Crocker instant junk with a 30 word ingredient label full of stuff they can't pronounce let alone define. The raw brownie recipie I make has like 3 real food ingredients and they are delicious.
Maybe she'll come around, maybe she won't:confused:
Thank goodnes you found RAW:D

I just love those light bulb moments!! There is a lady here at work that is always trying to find something "wrong" with my food. Apparently she thinks she knows a lot about food....that was until she started talking to me. :D She'll ask me a question, I'll give her an answer and then she'll go look it up on the net just to see if I was right or not. Too funny. Today she came in while I was eating some sunflower seeds and she said "those have cholesterol in them" I said no they don't...they have fat but not cholesterol. She just looked at me funny and walked out. I couldn't help but giggle. :p She didn't believe that fish and chicken have cholesterol either. Mind you this is all coming from a fairly heavy smoker. People hear what they want to hear. I call it Selective Hearing. ;)
Congrats on your new lifestyle and on incorporating Raw into your party!

Tisha, I understand what you are saying about the frustration. I am a diabetic and very overweight. I tried tons of 'diets' and if you had ever told me I would one day become a vegetarian, much less a raw vegetarian, and actually enjoy it, I would have laughed so hard you would have smelled the doughnuts on my breath! I still can't tell you why this way of eating suddenly made sense to me. I saw Alyssa on the Tyra show (and I never watch daytime TV), then I researched on the internet some, and for some reason all the pieces of the puzzle suddenly came to gether and it just made sense that this would not only work for weight loss, but make me a more healthy person too!
I am only in my 4th week of eating raw, and I have stumbled along the way some, but I feel amazing!!! I've shed 13#s and I LOVE EATING RAW!!! I don't feel deprived and I'm not craving.
The point to the above story is that your friend will see the light when she is ready. And you will be there to guide her, help her, support her and you'll be living proof for her too! You've planted the seed. The idea is in her head, it's a start.

I know the feeling..
A good friends wife has a thyroid problem but the doctors are not helping her.
They cant figure it out. They just say “its your thyroid most likely”. She has ALL the same symptoms I used to have. Irregular heart beat (any one who has this knows it is the worst feeling in the world you feel your going to die.) Panic attacks worry and fear.
I had this for 13 years so I learned to ignore it and they panic attacks went away but my heart still would just go off a lot !
Well she is the same way EXACTLY the same. I hate to preach or try to convert people, I never liked it when religious people did it to me so I don’t do it to any one.
So this is where it gets complicated. I talked to her about raw and how ALL my symptoms are GONE (still on synthroid because I was young and let the navy doctors kill my thyroid).
She seemed really interested and so I told her about raw . She obviously did not try it for more than a day. The next week she says “My symptoms got worse so I stopped.”
UMMM ya. Of course I said nothing. Like I said I don’t wish to push my beliefs on people who don’t ask for it.
As I watched her feed her 3 year old daughter a raw hot dog and Kraft Mac and Cheese I realized she had no support. Her husband would NEVER do this diet!
I wish I could just make all her food for her and whisper in her ear when she got cravings.
If just for 10 days. I know it would help her. I don’t normally care about what people do but I know what she is going through I have been there. I would not wish that on my worst enemy.
Some times it is sooooo frustrating.
People to blame … Big Pharmaceutical
Big Oil for squashing the EV1 car (what’s that ? EXACTLY what they want)
FDA - Leg breakers for the big pharma
I saw a commercial for a new toddler food for when they just get to real food it was canned raviolis! And they talked about protein and vitamins !!! for a 2 year old!!!
Then after that a spledna commercial !
THEN LUNCHABLES !!!
YUP we are DUPPED!!

funny that someone mentioned work...and people's reaction to what I eat. If you want to invite any and all close-minded people for a conversation, just mention that you're eating "raw".....I actually drove this one girl home from work, we passed a field of cows and I said "I just love these cows...I say hi every morning" (I'm a big animal freak), and her response was "yeah, I love cows too, in my belly!!! hahahahah"....yeah, hilarious. I take animal rights really seriously. And most people even if you do tell them the health benefits of raw, they have some idiotic government-fed argument to regurgitate anyway...oh well....... I really only care about my own choices, but sometimes people really seem to want to...I don't know..like, eg me on!

I know. I've offered healing (for free, I'll add) to people who are complaining of pain or sadness. (I do reike, quantum touch, EFT and other energy work).
They've said things like, 'oh it probably won't work', Well how do you know if you won't try it, all you'll lose is a few minutes of your day and you may even get some relief!
or they say, 'oh I don't believe in that'. You don't have to believe in it for it to help.
or they say, 'well my doctor says I should take these pills / have this operation.' or 'isn't it dangerous?" Well don't you want to even try something natural and non-invasive before you take a drug with side effects or being cut open?
it's weird - you'd think they want to be in pain!
and as for raw food, I keep being told "Aren't you good, you're putting us all to shame!" No, I'm just eating what I want to - nothing to do with trying to shame you!

I get SO frustrated with my mom about this sort of thing. She's always in so much pain from fibromyalgia. I told her years ago to at least remove dairy and wheat. She wouldn't listen. A nutritionist she met randomly in a store told her to remove wheat and dairy. Now a books SHE'S reading says to remove wheat and dairy. She came to me the other day and said "I think I need to stop eating wheat. I may have a gluten intolerance." ::rolls eyes:: parents don't listen to their children do they!? lol. I just see her in pain, tell her I KNOW what will work, tell her I can show her testimonies of fibromyalgia going away, but she doesn't want to. It seems like she WANTS to be in pain 24/7. I guess she'll come around slowly (most likely once I stop bugging her about it...she's rebellious lol). It's hard for me to see her pain though...I want her to feel better and I know she has the tools to do so...

OMG this is my story! i never show daytime TV... and somehow i've noticed this raw food thing on Tyra and was so curious that i started researching- it's like something MADE me look for more information.. i guess my intuition was telling me that's the way to go hehe

Riiya, I don't watch daytime tv either. I happened to see her late at night while I was flipping through channels. I wonder how many other lives she touched just by that few minutes that she was on that television show. Wow!
Dreamrawalwz, I was just telling my husband today about my conversation last night. I said almost the exact thing you said. I can say the same thing weeks or months or years before and people just look at me as if I'm not "qualified" to know these things. Oh, well...deep cleansing breath in...deep cleansing breath out...;) :)

I was at a modeling agency yesterday getting evaluated for a fit modeling assignment, and there was a young woman in the lobby with her two young daughters. The woman was probably about 50 lbs overweight (she was there for one of her daughters).
I was minding my own business and the woman told me "I couldn't do what you do (try for modeling), look at me; my daughters ruined my body." It was the perfect opportunity to tell her how much my raw diet changed my body and she didn't want to hear of it. She wanted to just blame her daughters (pregnancies) on her weight issues and how I was sooo lucky. I so wanted to roll my eyes, but didn't want to appear stuck up. I told her about my past weight issues and how my diet has changed my life. I handed her my card in case she wants to know more about the raw and thankfully, my agent came out to grab me.
I try not to think too harshly of her because it took me years before I saw the light myself, but it does get annoying at times, LOL.

She said that right in front of her daughters?!!! If she didn't, she probably has before. What a horrible burden for her daughters to carry around. Shame on her. Did her girls make her fat, or the cheeseburgers and milkshakes? So sad. :(
