My name is Sherrie. I am a 34 year wife and a stay-at-home mom to 5 sons.

I have been sitting here I know for more than 5 minutes trying to type an eloquent introduction. Everything sounds so rediculous when I read it.

So here's some candor...

I'm sick of always feeling tired, of not ever feeling like I get enough sleep though the clock proves I've been in bed for 10 hours. I'm sick of the chronic pain in my wrists for the last 4+ years that the doctors can't explain. I want to loose the extra pounds but more importantly want to feel alive again... not drained and spiritless (is that a word?).

So I was cruising a natural parenting message board and ran across a thread discussing the benefits of eating a raw diet. I was inspired and did more research. After a few days I was excited but equally overwhelmed by all the information. I still don't really know how to begin. I have a husband and 5 children to cook for and a tight grocery budget that can't be stretched. I'm worried but determined to figure out a way. Eating raw just makes sense to me.

I look forward to learning more from the members here.

glad you decided to post your message here - this is a great supportive community. I hope you find everything you need here that can help you through the transition.

I know that there are several people who cook food for the family and do raw food for themselves. I know they will be good resources for you.

Sincerely,

WELCOME

it is good to meet you.

WOW 5 sons, how blessed you must feel.

congratulations on your choice to live a healthier lifestyle.

There are many people here who are 100% raw, some that are less. So, where ever you are is perfect.

One thing about raw, is you tend to get full much faster on raw food, as your body actually absorbed most of the nutrients.

Good luck with your raw journey, we are all in the same boat.

Welcome Sherrie! Hubby and I are also working with a tight budget...I am the only one doing raw, but it all works out. We have had no problems. Now I really don't do organic too much, just when it is on sale or the prices are close to the regular produce prices- as long as it is raw.

I hope you find these boards helpful. :D

What a warm welcome to come back to. Thank you all so much.

I do worry about the cost of eating raw. The local farmers market will open soon and I'm hoping to do better there as far as prices go. I wish I could still purchase the majority of our groceries at the health food store. It felt so good to feed my family organic but our family grew and my husband lost his job...finding new employment but half the salary. It's been tough and we've had to make some sacrifices. So now only about 25% of our food is organic.

My long term goal is to eventually have the entire family eating a much healthier diet. My husband was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and the doctor advised weight lose as the best form of therapy. He is doing a modified atkins/southbeach. He is being very successful on the diet but I am concerned with the long term effects. I am going to encourage him to read the books about eating raw and hopefully soon he will come around. He will never be vegan but he does love fresh fruits and veggies and always enjoys a nice salad. It will be a tough transition for him to see the salad as the main course but I'm hopeful.

Thank you again.
