Peace to everyone,
Does anyone happen to have any recipes to make any raw almond butter??? I just don't want to continue buying it at the whole foods store, MAN they are expensive!! But it's soooo delicious sometimes i can't resist it. I know there's a way i can make it myself, i just need to know how.

I use my Vitamix and let it grind itself into almond butter. Sometimes I add agave nectar. I did pick up a jar of it at Trader Joe's last week, was not really that bad, like $3 or something.

Isnt almond butter, just ground almonds. Ground really fine. They have a machine at HEB that you can feed the nuts through. It just grinds them up.
I am thinking my processor could do it, but I haven't tried yet. I do know that the kitchen supply stores sell a nut grinder. You may need that to grind them.
May I ask where you are getting your almonds. I too love almond nut butter, but find it cheaper at whole foods than if I bought a bunch of almonds and did it myself. Nuts are way pricey....

Wow, Wendy, really $3 for raw almond butter? Every store around here that carries raw is at least $7 and it starts at $12 for the organic. My mother is sending me a care package with TJ's raw almond butter - I'll ask her how much it was.

I think the raw almond butter at TJ's here is about $7. I get Living Tree stuff for about $12, I think it is. Organic Raw Almonds at Whole Foods is about $10 a pound.

I dunno, I thought it was cheap like that....Maybe I was wrong? I think making the almond butter can be kinda expensive for me. I have to put a lot of almonds in, clean up, kinda aggravates me.
Too bad I didn't keep my receipt to tell you exactly the price .threw it out yesterday.
Just let me go on thinking it was that cheap, ok???

I tried grinding my almonds up in the vitamix and I get a pile of dry goop. Not creamy like the organic raw almond butter I bought....yet they say they added nothing. I add nothing and it does not even remotely resemble what I bought. I ended up adding some organic walnut oil (it was all I had) and it is still a big clump of dry goop. Is there a secret?

I make my almond butter in my small food processor. I throw in about 3 handfuls of raw UNsoaked almonds, and a drizzle of olive oil. It makes quite a bit of noise when you first turn it on, so be prepared. After the first few seconds, I stop the processor and scrape down the edges .. turn it back on. The secret is to let it process until you see it is creamy - so be patient. Takes a couple of minutes.
comes out really great. Scoop it out and just run the processor and blade through the dishwasher, so cleanup is easy.
