I have heard of people dehydrating in their ovens with the oven on warm and the door slightly ajar... I also read somewhere about someone using their car as a dehydrator.

Their Car??? hmmmm, not too environmentally friendly. But, with the oven, what temperature is "warm' and how long do I put them in there for??

My oven has a door slightly open (about 3 inches) position where the door can be "parked". I wonder if the manufacturer made it that way for dehydrating ?

About the dehydrating using a car, I think I read that post too, as I am also dehydratorless! I think the person used the dashboard......if your car is in the sun, put the tray of whatever you're dehydrating on the dash, and let it sit! I was also wondering about the oven.....but mine has a lowest temp of 200 degrees F, so I'd be afraid to risk it....

mine has a lowest temp of 200 degrees F
If anyone has a temp gauge they could put in the oven and then turn it on the lowest setting and "park" the door slightly open, or maybe even all the way open, and then read the temp in the oven I would be very interested in hearing the results of such an experiment. Thanks.

I tried using the oven in the begining going raw (was missing the bread..still do a bit)
anyway my oven's lowest degree is 40-50 c dont remember exactly... but i try to put it a bit lower cause it has no numbers under that but it works lol...
i open the door a bit with a silverrap which i stick inbetween...
but im not sure if its good enough... maybe its too warm and it kills anything ive done... which explains the craving for dead food :)
I'll try the car idea though :) it's hot enough here... will have to make sure it doesnt go above the 50 inside though :( heard it can get quite hot in a car...

When I started going raw, I was a little disappointed that I wouldn't be able to try out some of the recipes that needed a dehydrator, until I found a 5 tray Excalibur for 50 that still works great and even had a teflex sheet. I highly recommend craigslist! Not to mention that I got it on my birthday, so I took it as a cosmic happy birthday as I had been searching for about three weeks with no luck. :)
