Hi, all. My name is Linda and I'm 49 years young. I'm aspiring toward become raw vegan. Currently, I'm doing about 50 - 75% raw vegan per day. I'm severly overweight; weighing 300 lbs. at 5' 3" and I now have hypertension. I do not intend to get on those drugs that I'll have to stay on forever or come down with diabetes and all the rest. I love to play and have fun and it's difficult at this time. I live in South Los Angeles, and when I look around and see so many overweight adults and children. I want to help us.
I became interested in vegetarianism after reading numerous books on the treatment of animals produced for food and what it's doing to our planet. I just finished reading a 259-page book on veganism entitled "The Real Forbidden Fruit" by Jeff Popick. It is SO full of common sense information on our state of "food". I don't know how anyone could continue to eat flesh after reading that book. I recently came across some videos on YouTube on raw foodism and became even more inspired.
I try to tell people about the books and videos and about how big money interests care only about money and profits as opposed to our health. People won't read the books because they don't want to know; they say they can't change, the books are too long, etc., etc., etc. How can information that can save our lives, the lives of our future generations, and our planet be "too long"? People are in denial and our society is headed toward disaster if we don't wake up. I see the truth is that our health is in our own hands and is as simple as eating the right foods and treating our bodies right.
I'm a single, working mom of two teenage girls and I am trying to teach them about veganism/raw foodism also. It's difficult after having eaten the SAD all of their lives. It's a little difficult for me as I'm on an extremely tight budget and I can't buy food for the household for two totally different diets; but, as I said previously, I am trying to eat about 50 - 75% raw, for now. I will seek to increase this amount over a period of time.
I hope that my thoughts weren't too disconnected here. Well thank you all so much for sharing your stories and information, and for listening. Best wishes of health, peace, and success to all of you on your journey toward good health and helping others. :D
