View Full Version : Suddenly Disgusted

Hi all,
Ok, so I've noticed that a few people have also mentioned this, but today I'm just feeling so strange. I've been kind of agitated all day :( and the idea of these raw food meals is really making me nauseous. I mean regular fruits and veggies are fine, but a raw meal (ie: something from the dehydrator or food processor) is just gross all of a sudden. Here's what I'm thinking...
So I started the diet just fine and for about three days I was following the diet.
Yesterday I went to see my family and slipped and ate a chicken sandwich (by the way has anyone ever done this??? It was funny b/c I ate the sandwich without even realizing it. Afterwards I was like "oh shoot").
Today I go home and now this raw food isn't sitting too well (I ate angel hair pasta and a slice of pecan pie, both Cohen recipes).
I'm thinking this is why you have to stick with the diet. I'm guessing I'm confusing my stomach by eating raw and then eating meat and then trying to go raw again.
Anyone else going through this? Any thoughts? I mean I know I have to just stick with the plan, but I guess I'm just surprised at the way my body is reacting.
Thanks all,
Rawkinlocs

Oh yeah...I've been there! For now, try to stick to simple until you get the cooked food out of your system. Eat up on your favorite fresh fruits and veggies and smoothies and then you may find that your desire for your favorite prepared raw meals will come back.
But yeah, it can be a mess going back and forth...again, been there. But also, don't beat yourself up if/when it happens either...it's part of this whole sorted process. During this period, however, stick to what your body will tolerate/accept and then go from there. Drink lots of water too!

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!! This has happened to me more than once and even this past week. I seem to do pretty good until I slip or allow cooked food/ junk food in and think that I can just go right back...For me that doesn't work. I now understand why Alissa says it's better to be 100% raw. When you allow that small percentage of cooked food in it's so much harder. You either begin craving more for it or become disgusted / less desiring the raw stuff. Maybe this happens more for those who are still new. Because she also said that she noticed when she was raw for a long time that cooked food tasted really gross, etc.... But you're not alone. I agree with rawkinlocs..Don't beat yourself up ( I'm guilty of this) and don't give up (also guilty of this) Just get back up and keep pushing to eat raw. I'm sure your desire will come back as you retrain your tastebuds and your mind and begin to experience the wonderful benefits of being raw.......
All the best,
Charika:)

Awwww. Sorry you're feeling this way, but it's part of the detoxing - I'm thinking. And yes, I agree - keep it simple. You'll get "there".

Yes, I've ping-ponged back and forth for a year now but overall I'm eating a high percentage of raw. I'm currently eating all raw and optimistic that it will click and I will stay all raw at some point.
Also, I don't seem to have enough self-discipline to ride out serious cravings. Instead I go and get colon hydrotherapy and it rinses away those cravings and gives me a fresh start, literally, huh, ha ha.
But, please, no matter what, don't get discouraged and give up. There's a light at the end of the tunnel:)

It may take a couple of days to start feeling better. Drinks some green smoothies until you feel better. And just keep in mind how you feel right now (write it down even) so that you remember, the next time you are tempted to eat cooked food.
I felt like this eating sauteed mushrooms.....I can't imagine how I would feel eating a chicken sandwich. I think I would make myself throw up, although I am not advocating purging.

I would recommend eating veggies for the rest of your awake time today because of the food combining principle not to eat fruit after a heavy meal as it dosn't digest well. Then after a snooze the stomach should be cleared and ready to start RAWkin.

I'm a really picky eater. Never much liked fruits and still don't like them. Haven't liked several of the recipes I tried. They looked good in the picture but when I got them, I might have eaten a bite or two and then didn't want any more. Sometimes whatever I made didn't even taste bad or have an offputting texture. I just didn't like it.
But then I have to remember the way I like to eat. And it's not eating things from recipes. It's a big bowl of salad with no dressing, or a carrot, some celery... In other words, plain things.
I also think in my case it's a psychological thing. Example: I can get these candied walnuts at my health food store. I decided to make them myself because a little bag of them all made up is over $5.00. So I made this huge big batch of them in my dehydrator. They are every bit as good, and yet... I don't want them! But every time I go into that heath food store, the little bags are calling my name.
Why? I had to think about this a while. I think it's sort of like a luxury to me. An indulgence. I know a lot of people on this board are the very economical sort. But I'm not one of them. Hehe.

Thats the way I eat too. I like to eat one food like an apple or something and thats it for awhile. For example everyday I eat raw red bell peppers cut into strips and munched plain. They taste delicious to me that way. When I do put more then one food together its usually in the juicer. Example: carrot/garlic. Or in the blender. Example: carrot juice base with a tomato blended in. I rarely use recipes. I just like it that way. :)
If my body were getting nauseated at food, I'd take that as a signal to not eat for the day.

yup, i went thru that too,
i used it to my advantage since i had some weight to lose anyway-
i just drank lemon water till i did get hungry/un-nauseated.
it really was a welcome change from being starving all the time & never getting enough to eat (tho i was eating tooo much wrong stuff at the time... that's how sad goes.) and i did lose weight & get my energy back.
this too shall pass, don't let it discourage you
