My dad grew up with my grandmom's cooking - and she grew up on a farm. Casserolles, meat and 'taters, you name it...

When I was 16, I announced that I was becoming a vegetarian. They assumed it was a phase. That phase lasted 17 years.

Then I came out with the raw thing 7 months ago. They said, "Oh that's nice, honey."

So I was emailing with my dad earlier this week and mentioned that I'd recently done a bunch of "uncooking". I told him that I'd made cornbread, tomato soup, stuffed mushrooms, bacon, burgers, cinnamon rolls and tortillas for somosas.

He does all the cooking at home - prides himself on it. He wrote back simply:
"You and I are going to have some interesting conversations when you come home in November. I just can't imagine how all of this works."

:) Wait'll he sees what I make for Thanksgiving: a lasagna, an apple pie, and a pumpkin pie.

Beckla, that is AWESOME....or should I say, RAWSOME!! I think it's great that he is interested in how he can have healthy cornbread....and foods that sound like what he's used to eating. You know, I've come to realize, that I can have ANYTHING raw....if it was a vegetarian meal BEFORE, I can have it dehydrated...or just fresh, no cooking involved. I will be waiting to hear how he reacts.....when is this trip planned??? Soon, I hope!!

Good luck.

Oh - let's be clear: he won't get into it. He'll roll his eyes, pat me on the back, and say, "Well, Kid. I'm glad it's workin' for you."

LOL.

The trip is over Thanksgiving.

My dad always appeases me by eating at vegan restaurants with me...but I know he hates it. He was so relieved when I went home last and we ate at Souplantation...so we both had our way. I do think it's cute that he always pretends to be excited about the places I choose. I just don't think I could ever in a million years convert him.

I'd never try to convert him.

People come to things on their own. Exposure is all I can offer in terms of raw.

The gift is that he completely accepts me and my choices and supports them. :)
