My dad grew up with my grandmom's cooking - and she grew up on a farm. Casserolles, meat and 'taters, you name it...
When I was 16, I announced that I was becoming a vegetarian. They assumed it was a phase. That phase lasted 17 years.
Then I came out with the raw thing 7 months ago. They said, "Oh that's nice, honey."
So I was emailing with my dad earlier this week and mentioned that I'd recently done a bunch of "uncooking". I told him that I'd made cornbread, tomato soup, stuffed mushrooms, bacon, burgers, cinnamon rolls and tortillas for somosas.
He does all the cooking at home - prides himself on it. He wrote back simply:
"You and I are going to have some interesting conversations when you come home in November. I just can't imagine how all of this works."
:) Wait'll he sees what I make for Thanksgiving: a lasagna, an apple pie, and a pumpkin pie.
