View Full Version : Allergies?
Has anyone here, long term on the RAW diet, had allergy tests/ problems?
Some studies/ Dr's. believe allergies can become ACQUIRED.
IE: If you eat a certain food too often.
{ early man did NOT have this problem, as he was at the mercy of the seasons/ conditions. Not the cornacopia of foods we have available today. ]
I'm concerned, because a lot of eating raw seems to focus on bananas, avacados, almonds, dates, ( and others).
Opinions?

I only eat dates out of the ones listed.........
Ifyou did have an allergic reation ,I suggest you NOT have it for a while -because it can cause a SEVERE reaction(bad skin reaction or worse ,breathing problems) if the chemical "builds up" in your system.....

HUMMMMM!!!
I know that there are alot of raw fooders who suggest that you eat what grows in your area, and in specific seasons. I think this is probably pretty valid information, although it may be difficult to achieve.
For me, once I started eating raw, all of my allergy symptoms ended.
I've never heard of anyone becoming more allergic to something if they ate too much of it, usually people react very strongly the first time they eat something, Like cows milk, and then the longer they eat or drink the substance, they build up either mucoid plaque or a minor tollerance to it.
They actually don't become less allergic, their body simply doesn't react quite as strongly as they once did.
But, if you are eating something, and you are reacting to it, you might just want to choose to eat something different, also it could be detox symptoms.
If you are having runny nose, sneezing, fever, headaches, itchy skin, cold sores, or any cold or flu type symptoms, you may be detoxing.
This will pass, as the toxins are removed from your body, just realize that it can take about 7 years for your body to totally detox.
Usually detox takes a few days to a week, then in about 1 1/2 months, there may be more, then around about 3 months, then around 1 1/2 years, (this is the most crucial time to stay raw), then around 7 years you are mostly completly detoxed.

I have often wondered this as well since you can develop allergies (even non-life threatening ones) to eating a food repeatedly. I'm wondering though if an extended raw food diet would clean the gut out (the root of food allergies) and then leave you with a healthy gut that wouldn't react to a specific food eaten even daily since you were keeping your system clean? Just my thoughts-not a proven fact.

I believe a developed food allergy is considered a food intolerence, the best way to test for them is to make a list of potential intolerences is to cut out the first food type from your diet for 1 month, then reintroduce it, and cut out the next item and so on.
For me I have already realized that I have an intolerence to grains, For months before I went raw I found that in the afternoon my stomach was SO bloated, it hurt, I could feel my intestine getting bigger, with gas I guess. But silly me never realized it could be an intolerence!!!
But since being raw the only breads we have in the house are eizikel sprouted grain bread/wraps or spelt bread hubby trying to avoid wheat). I would have the odd piece of bread, maybe one or two wraps a week. Not a lot, and almost raw!!!!
Then one weekend, I had been naughty and had a little indulegence in hard cider!!!! So the next day I was feeling hung over, and with no will power! So I had toast, then later 2 wraps (raw fillings), followed by a wrap for dinner. With a raw cheese and raw almond butter sandwhich for supper!!!!!!!
Well, 20 mins after that, I was doubled up in terrible pain!!!! Bloated for the next 48 hours.
So I concluded a grain intolerence had developed over the years.
Hope my ramblings help!!!!!

Since going raw, I haven't had the allergic reactions I'd had previously to citrus, tomatoes and almonds (unsoaked). Bo went through a heavy cleansing ~ due to all the oranges we've been doing ~ yet, that's clearing up now too.
I'm not sure an allergy can become "acquired" due to eating a food long-term. Not sure how it works yet but, I've done salads ~ as in raw greens ~ for quite some time and not become allergic to greens. I HAVE had "allergic" reactions to other things ~ before going raw.
Glow, I'd suggest dropping concerns ~ eating a varied diet ~ and enjoy life!
Injoy ~

The more you build up your immune system the better apt your body will be to handle the food allergies. I have suffered with severe food allergies in the past, and have also been told that you need to rotate foods so as to not create an allergy to a food you're not allergic too. When not raw, I was told you use goat's milk in place of cow's milk. However, I developed an allergy to goat's milk over time due to repeated use of it.
Allergies typically exist because of a problem with the gut. Raw foods help build your gut and your immune system. Eventually your allergies will disappear when these issues are treated. I know a few people who have had complete relief from food allergies from a sensible raw foods diet. I personally feel my best when on a raw foods diet for allergy purposes.
Hope that answers your question a bit...

I think you already have the potential for an allergie if you are allergic ,I dont think it comes from eating alot of things ,but I know of alot of people that once were able to eat strawberries ,but after the 3rd time eating them they developed rashes ,then the 4th time there throat swelled up -like I said it can be serious ,most of the population IS mildly allergic tho wheat gluten.....interesting
