Just watched this, amazing.:D  Trying to figure out a way to have my diabetic Dad watch it. He thinks medicine is the only answer.

I couldn't watch that beyond about the first 30 seconds. It was an insult to my intelligence. I'm a diabetic and I get sick of the attitude that we brought it on ourselves by eating the wrong things. That little film started out along those lines.
I was a vegetarian when I was diagnosed. On a reduced calorie diet. I exercised and I never ate fast food.
There are diabetics on both sides of my family. Some eat junk. Some do not. Husband has diabetics in his family too. Some of us just can't escape it.

Really? That's so sad to hear. I was so hopeful.
My Dad has been struggling with his blood sugar and won't look at his diet because he thinks it has nothing to do with it. So he goes out for chinese, eats ribs and keilbasa, and bags of splenda cookies. I was hoping he would at least look at this and make a few changes. Have you had any improvement since going 100% raw???
Certainly wasn't trying to offend. But I'm sure there are lots of people out there who like my Dad are baffled as to why even the medicine isn't working, who think diet and health are separate matters. I know my health has improved substantially in only 27 days!

I have not been able to go 100% raw. I have gastroparesis. That's damage to the vagus nerve to my stomach which leaves it paralyzed. There are certain things I can't eat a lot of and that list includes raw fruits and vegetables or high fiber foods because they can form a bezoar (food ball) that must be surgically removed.
I started with the raw diet due to food allergies. Could no longer eat eggs or cheese and was looking for other sources of protein. My Drs. all knew of the raw diet and told me to continue with it since I seemed to be doing so well. I did lose weight, but my blood sugar also got higher. I was actually taking in less carbs, but the theory is that I wasn't digesting the food so it was staying in my stomach too long and causing my numbers to go higher and higher.
Although in the beginning I was close to 100%, I was forced to cut back on the amount of raw food I could eat.
Now I know my situation is not necessarily typical. Most diabetics do not have gastroparesis.
My dad has diabetes. So does my brother. I think both of them are able to eat more carbs than I do and at times that can be very frustrating to me. I feel like I am trying so very hard and not seeing any improvement.
Just two days ago, I went to the eye Dr. He was not pleased with my numbers and asked me, "So... Would you say you have fair control? Poor control?" I wanted to cry. I've been trying sooo hard.
In my case, the raw diet is not to blame. I still believe it is the ideal diet, if one has a system that can metabolize such foods. And I do seem to be doing better than most who have gastroparesis. Many of them have to have liquid foods fed to them directly through a tube. At least I can still eat.
As for your dad... You may have no luck whatever changing him. My dad has diabetes. He does cut back on the carbs somewhat from what he used to eat, and perhaps somewhat on the calories, but he still seems to be able to eat pretty much whatever he wants to. His numbers are almost always better than mine. That being said, my family has always eaten a lot of vegetables and fruit (not me for the fruit, don't like it), much of it being raw. So perhaps not exactly a SAD diet.
One thing I've learned is that you can't change people. People can change, but only when they see there is a problem and realize they need to change. This is why my dad is not likely to change his diet. He doesn't see a problem, so no need to change.
I can't speak for your dad since I don't know his situation.

Not related to diabetes, but related to trying to change others... My dad's family has heart problems and all of his brother died of heart attacks. He knows the food is not helping him, so he listened to me about raw. He is nowhere near 100% raw, but my mom makes raw meals for him every now and then and whenever I'm home he will eat only the raw food I make, including all the green smoothies, etc.
So it is possible to positive influence other people, by being a great example and by showing them the data that proves there's a link between diet and health. Also the book "The China Study" is great for convincing folks. ;)
Oh by the way, in a few months my dad lost 6 pounds, without actually trying to. I was impressed. :) Don't give up on your relatives! I always say that my dad has to eat healthy if he wants to be able to meet his grandchildren.

Not sure if that's the video as I have not clicked on it. Anyway, there is a documentary "Raw in 30 days" I think ti's called. It's about 6 diabetics that reversed their diabetes. I think if you do a search you may find that post. I know there used to be a link to the website with more information, but I"m not sure what it is though. Maybe google it?? Sorry I'm not much help, but diet DOES play a part in it. Whether it be the cause or managing it. Either way, diet plays a part.

I enjoyed the video and plan to share it with a friend of mine who was hospitalized and diagnosed with diabetes last week. She called and is asking a lot of questions about how I am eating and even asked if I would help her facilitate a lifestyle change. I believe this video will be very inspiring to her!
Thanks for sharing beppa66!

Agreed that diet and exercise are both part of controlling diabetes. Some people don't want to hear this though and prefer to think that a pill or shots is enough.
Also when it comes to diabetes (and probably some other diseases), a lot of people are in denial. They think they feel fine so they don't see a problem.
In my case, it was the neuropathy (nerve damage) in my feet and legs that brought me to the Dr. to begin with. Upon diagnosis, I already had damage to my body and I had a 1 year old baby to take care of. I was so bad off at that point, I couldn't do anything for myself. My parents had to come stay with us for a couple of weeks. It was horrible. I knew I had to do something.
I think I'm one of the minority. I think most people with diabetes do not get complications. They feel like they always did. Or so they say. Could be whatever it is came on them so gradually they just don't notice. Or they chalk it up to getting older. It's very easy to make excuses.
I have a friend who kept complaining to me that she had to get up repeatedly throughout the night to pee. This is not normal but she had convinced herself that it was. Just a part of getting older.
She didn't want to go to the Dr., but finally wound up in the hospital with a nosebleed that she should stop. There, she was diagnosed with a number of things, including a really severe bladder infection. So there it was. The proof. And yet she told me with a straight face that she had no symptoms of an infection.

Avoiding diabetes is one of the main reasons I went raw. The video gave me a lot of hope! Thanks for posting the link.

Thanks everyone for posting. I thiink I am going to share it with him. We've been talking about my diet and how it has helped me and he seems very excited.
I thought about what everyone said. He may or may not change but it may cause him to think about adding fruits and veggies to his diet. (other than pie)
And then at least I'll have a clear conscience because at least I gave him the info. In this case what he doesn't know might be hurting him.
Blessings!

What kind of diabetes are we talking about here, considering there are 3 different types?

The video looked to be about adults with Type II.

Yes, I am the daughter and granddaughter of 2 people with severe diabetes (II). Watching my grandmother die from complications from Diabetes was no fun. My Father manages his with diet, specifically the Zone diet by Barry Sears. I tried it, but I found that b/c I was so sugar addicted, I could not stick with it. I also felt frustrated how I had to make and cook everything, and there were no quick snacks to grab when hungry, etc. For some reason, Raw feels right to me. My Dad thinks I am nuts - all that fruit, no protein??? And he cannot believe that I would consider eating beets - the highest glycemic load out there. Anyway, I am really hoping that Raw works for me. I had diabetes while pregnant with my twins, no fun. I need to lose about 30 pounds before I really start reversing diabetes. Like I said, this is feels right to me.

I think that diet does play a part in health. When they said in the film that "you are what you eat" I found that very encouraging as it allows me some control in either disease prevention or getting past disease. A good film clip and I found it encouraging. Our food choices can make a difference.

The film has three adults with Type II diabetes and two adults with Type I diabetes. By the fourth day, the ones with Type II and one of the ones with Type I were off their insulin completely. By the end of 30 days, these four had stabilized blood sugar without insulin and the other Type I had decreased his dosage to 1/5 of his usual dosage. This is from an article in the magazine Spirituality and Health.
