View Full Version : New to Raw... Is this gonna work?

Okay, after lurking around this site for a while (not in a creepy manner, I promise!), I'm thinking that this raw food lifestyle may be just what I need.

I'm sort of freaked out, though. I mean, can you actually be active when you're eating raw? I'm so afraid that I'm going to get on the treadmill (training for a 5k in October after not doing much during 2 pregnancies in 2 years!) and pass out from exhaustion if I don't have a belly full of meat and bread. Will I get sickly looking? Will I go nutty and push my new lifestyle on everyone around me? Or maybe, just maybe, will I lose weight, feel energized and refreshed, and find that my raw diet fits in perfectly with my exercise goals? Someone say something to assuage my fears!

Oh my dear - first welcome! Second are you kidding me? A belly full of meat and gunk will slow you up like putting oatmeal in a gas tank engine. I have SOOOOO much more energy then I did when I was 23. I'm 53 now (see my profile photo or my before and after photos). It's such a sensible way of eating. You may (or may not) go through detox, but you will definitely, definitely gain energy. Not only physically, but mentally too. You'll sleep better. Your body will not be tiring itself out digesting those so-called foods. It will heal itself. Read my testimoney.
This WILL work - I guarantee it. If you do a 30-day 100% all raw challenge you WILL feel better. Alissa and Revvell talk about this in their latest Rawkin Radio show. Alissa has never had anyone fail eating this way.
There aren't many guarantees in life, but this is a sure thing!!!!!!!!

I am with you Lal! I have been considering and re-considering raw for a long time now. I also posted this morning to find out how to get this whole thing started. I too am nervous. I too had 2 babies in 2 years (but that was almost 3 years ago). But that state of constant pregnancy left me kind of messed up (at least that is what I think did it). I had GI problems before, but after the birth of my 2nd child had full scale IBS that has interfered with almost every aspect of my life since then. I do aerobics/weight training about 4 times a week, so I am also wondering if this level of activity is possible/appropriate while going raw.

Raw has helped me become more active than ever before. I have more strength and flexibility than when I did on a cooked diet. I run, spin, Yoga and weight train on a raw diet. I'm not a super athlete, but I workout daily.

Thanks, guys! I knew I'd get support, but just needed to really hear it addressed to me. I'm excited about this, but still sort of scared for some reason. I'm totally gonna sign up for the 30 day challenge!

I can't exercise unless I am raw.....just don't have the energy to do it on cooked food.

Gotta love it Lal!! you asked and look at all the positive feedback you've gotten!! It's pretty awesome! What's 30 days?? give it 100% of your effort and once you get past the initial detox of getting all that crap out of your system... then you'll really know what feeling great is all about! Like Alissa says - give it 30 days... just 30 days and you'll be amazed at all the benefits you are experiencing!! What have you got to lose? It can only bless you!! RAWK ON ... I hope you decide to join us! :D

I haven't given it 30 days yet... but am going for it now. I am on day 10 of 100%, am feeling great and loving it. I have lost 17 pounds in the last month, started at 178 and am down to 161. I have lost 7 of those pounds over the last 10 days. I feel wonderful and beautiful and can't wait to see what I feel like at the end of 30 days :)

I was scared too at first. I came up against a lot of opposition. It just seemed so crazy to be raw. I thought, how can I be getting everything I need? Then after a few weeks, it all became very clear and very easy. It just feels right and natural and effortless to be raw. But it's a struggle to eat any other way, because on any cooked food diet, that is when you are most malnurished. When you eat cooked food, you feel depleted and hungry and heavy at the same time. YUK! But on a raw diet you feel satisfied and light and full of energy.
GO FOR IT! You'll see.;) ;) :) :)

I love the Raw Green Smoothies, Oh they are so good and your body will thank you for them too. Energy, Wow you will have lots of that. I went bowling on one quart of green smoothie, for 3 hours too. Then went to walmart and walked all over that store for an hour and had all the energy I needed too. One thing you will feel right away is that nice light feeling after you eat. You never get that from cooked foods. So far I have lost 143 lbs and I only have 109 lbs to go. I have links to two pictures first one is 451 lbs 2nd is 351 lbs and I will put one more Up when I lose 9 more pounds too. That will be pretty soon too. I started back in may 24th 2006 and have come along way. Doug in Calif 100% Raw and loving it.

I decided to try to go raw for 3 days on Memorial Day weekend. I didn't have any plans so I figured it was the perfect time. I wasn't sure if I could make it through one day let alone the entire weekend. Here it is my 10th week now! I felt hungry at first because you don't get that full feeling. After about 1 1/2 weeks I realized that feeling was gone.

I also exercise 5-6 times a week. I don't run marathons or anything but I do walk 5-6 miles at a time, take dance classes, kayak, do aerobics and work out on a reformer. Sometimes 2 or 3 of them in one day.

Tell yourself you'll try it for a weekend and then if it's painless...which it is...keep going. :D

Trust this diet. This is what our master creator originaly planned for his precious people and his plans never fail! Think of it this way, John the baptist lived well into his thirties on locust and wild honey. Those two things gave him all the life he needed to serve his God and the raw food diet will give you so much more life than you could ever imagine. Put your faith in God, and everything else will fall into place. If I weren't certain of this I wouldn't practice it every day, but I am certain, and because of that I am the healthiest, happiest, most spirited being that I could ever be.

I'm new too - this is my week and a half point. I have to say, I've noticed my mental clarity has greatly improved. I have one of the most boring desk jobs sometimes and usually begin to yawn and struggle to stay awake around 2 - this has not happened this week so far. I'm not very physically active because of an old injury, but I've noticed I'm a bit more fidgety, like my body wants to get up on its own accord and DO something.
