So I started reading some information regarding MSM and I was moved to go out and purchase some. The powder is not delicious, but tolerable if I mix it with a smoothie. Occasionally, I even mix it with my liquid vitamin mix and down it like a shot.

My husband started taking it, as well.

Within a week, my husband's hair started growing insanely fast and his nails are long. Weird!

I have naturally red hair, although of late, it was growing out silver/white. Scary, since I'm only 32, but I've heard that is common with red heads. Anyway, I noticed today that it's starting to grow with color at the roots! Not red, mind you, but brown. At least it's not white!

Has anyone had similar experience??

Have you been taking it a while? Did you just start? I'd love to know what benefits others are receiving (or not) from taking this supplement.

I haven't had that experience, but it has really helped with my hair growth. I've been taking it about 4 months now. It helps my energy, too.

I always add it into my water, along with salt and trace minerals and sole..I haven't really noticed any changes due to the MSM but I suppose that's because I haven't really been paying attention :D

I usually add about 3/4 a tablespoon per gallon of water..maybe a little less

I have been adding it to my green smoothies, and actually have long strong nails for the first time in my life. Also suppose to be good for the bones and hair ~ Cathy

Sometimes you have to increase dosage to see results. I have a few tablspoons a day.. My sense of smell came back, like WHOA! I was smelling a banana for like 5 minutes before I ate it! aha!

It usually takes a month to actually see the results. Usually you have to be doing the increased dosage.

I take MSM in powder form in my water and sometimes in my smoothies. I do a whole teaspoon twice a day (well, I am not really militant about it - I miss sometimes). I am vain and I am taking it mostly for my hair which I wish would grow faster and thicker - although I notice my nails are thicker but they have always been like that.

I have been taking it for a few months (although I miss days) and I wish I was seeing better results with my hair. It doens't grow very fast - yet. I still think it keeps my hair strong though. I might increase my dosage to two tablespoons a day. I heard that David Wolfe takes a few tablespoons aday.

It is supposed to work better if you take it with Vitamin C - like in your orange juice.

MSM lotion has done wonders for my skin. It healing all my acne scars on my face.

I have my mom taking it for her knee arthitis and she said she is noticing an improvement.

MSM is good for so many things - I don't see how one could go wrong with taking it!

For hair turning white/grey, I believe that wheatgrass has been known to reverse this. I haven't heard of MSM doing it but it is still great for your hair just the same.

I've been taking it for years. I have Fibromyalgia. Without it, my muscles lock up on me, making it really difficult and painful to do anything at all. With it, I am for the most part pain free unless I overdo it.

I was just reading about MSM on this website:
http://www.msmguide.com/
It looks like the active ingredient is sulfer. A possible substitute for MSM could be Garlic as it is high in sulfer ? What do you think ?

In an article at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garlic
it says that garlic has a large number of sulfer compounds. The article has a section on medicinal use and health benefits of garlic. I love garlic -- don't you ?

I take those Emergencee packets every day. 2,000 milligrams of vitamin C per day. It has a few other vitamins in it. But maybe that accounts for the changes I'm seeing so soon - the Vitamin C.

Additionally, I have a question. I bought two small flats of wheatgrass from the HFS nearby and when I got home, I was so confused. I ended up taking scissors and cutting the grass to put in my smoothies. Is this wrong? Do I take the entire blades and use them? I feel silly asking this. And where and how do you store wheatgrass?

my holistic doctor was sayin that the sulfur dioxide is what is good about it. i feel like getting that from a whole food would be so much better for you.

You need a special wheatgrass juicier/press, or you can juice it in a green star

Juicers that will juice wheatgrass:

Green Star
Green Power
Omega 8002
Kempo
Solo Star
MJ-550ss
Wheateena Marvel Red Label
Wheateena Workhorse II
Back to Basics Stainless Steel (manual)
Porkert (manual)

Pure Radience C MSM Flax Seed Oil gr8 combo. Pure Radience C is a whole food form of Vitamin C... Gr8 stuff.

I take tons of MSM daily, 3 tbl in my water in 3 tbl in my smoothie, mixed with 2 tbl Pure radience Vitamin C. It's a process, surrender to it. Relax. But a small tsp daily, oh its gonna take years.hehe

Ah ha. Weird how the bottle doesn't say going to tablespoons. It only recommends up to 1/2 teaspoon twice a day. Well, I put 1 whole tablespoon in my water today. So, I am trying for 2 tablespoons a day.

I heard that MSM only stays in your system for 12 hours at a time - so I guess the idea is to load up your system with it every 12 hours. :)

I don't know if I can afford the Pure Radiance right now (I am lucky I can afford the MSM) but as soon as I can I will try some. I hate to juice orange juice every morning - even though I love it.

thanks Davylp25!

I buy fresh garlic from the produce department for a reasonable price. Check out my post above.

Do you take it on an empty stomach or with food? I was thinking of taking some (with water of course after I run) but wasn't sure if that was a good idea or not....

Davylp25

Yes you can take it with water after you run. Best taken for your first morning drink. Dont start too big, start with 1/2 tsp for 1 week then work your way up. And when combining with water make sure its room temp, or the MSM wont dissolve quickly and you will taste the nasty of it. But if its room temp, you shouldnt taste it at all.:D

I was wondering what brands of MSM does everyone use.

When I first started taking it, I got David Wolfes stuff and it had a very distinct bitter taste even with a low dosage. When that was gone, my bf had a coupon for the NOW brand and I have that but I noticed it doesn't taste bitter at the lower dosages only at the higher ones (1 teaspoon or more).

I heard that some brands of MSM aren't that pure and that David Wolfe sells the purest brand.

Anyone else notice this when trying different brands?
