Wow, so many of you have inspired me to join this board, with your stories of being dedicated and devoted raw foodists. With regard to the diet, I do not perceive it as a "diet", but rather a lifestyle change as I am officially saying "Bye" to many of the things I once enjoyed.

At 25, I have been diagnosed with several illnesses, cancer and serious liver problems stemming from alcohol abuse. I've always been athletic and fit, but regardless of how much cardio and training I was doing in the gym, I retained a lot of water and could never lose weight even when consuming very little calories per day and burning more calories than taking in. Being frustrated, I resorted to the cranberry concentrate pills, thistle milk pills, and other aids at Whole Foods. These worked, and I soon started exploring the natural remedies that raw diet has to offer.

I am now a firm believer of the raw diet as the science behind it makes so much sense, it was the food of our ancestors who would pick the fruits and vegetable that fed them and their families.

So far it is my 2nd day, and I have lost 4 pounds which is very scary considering that I am in good shape and was not intending to lose any weight on this diet, but rather cleansing my internal system which has served as the catalyst for the illnesses I have fallen victim to. I've been about 95% raw for the past two days and eat and eat and am still losing weight. Is this common for many of you??

I am so enthusiased to know of a great forum to discuss this "way of life"!

Love,

Sara

Aloha and Welcome to RFT!! Soo glad you have joined us! Yes I too agree that this is a lifestyle not a DIE'it...!! I'm glad that you have found this path to vibrant life and healing.

I have read that people that want to gain weight (or just stay the same weight and get healthy) do experience some weight loss, but then their body finds its balance and they begin to gain healthy weight -- until your body finds it's 'happy weight!!'

You will find many answers to your questions if you do a search (up above you will find a banana!) I will be very interested to follow your progress!!

love your avatar pic btw... you are very beautiful!!

RAWK ON ... AND enjoy the ride!! ;) :D

StarFire,

Thank you for extending the warm welcome!!! I, too, see this is a the natural path that will lead to healing and also a sense of spirituality.

I've noticed wonderful things and little transitions like the texture of my skin, and having a vibrant glow in just 2 1/2 days of being raw! I am eager to see what I am like one month from now.

YOUR avatar (and picture) are very beautiful, too. I am glad to be swarmed by very inspirational people who are devoted to this lifestyle.

Love,

sara

Wow! How scary to have so many challenges at 25 (my age!). I keep telling my husband my biggest concern is that I don't want either of us to get cancer when our kids are young... And the kids don't even exist yet.

I also lost weight at first even though I'm not overweight, but I feel great the more raw and the longer I am raw. The weight you quickly lose on raw is just the stuff that your body does not want!

Anyways, you'll find lots of support and encouragement around these parts.

I love Austin, by the way! I just spent some time there a couple months ago, and I almost moved my whole family there. :)

Hi Sara and everyone, I'm new from Austin as well. This is my third day doing raw foods. I'm very excited to already see some results, mine is just in the area of weight loss, but I really can't wait to hear Sara's progress and the progress of others dealing with illness as it would be inspiring and helpful for others in my life. :)
