Do any of you long term raw foodies have suggestions for lowfat, nofat, raw recipes, dips, spreads, crackers, chips, etc?
I have been really high raw for over 3 months. The first month I was 100% no question. The last two months I have tasted very few cooked items, often just one little chip, or maybe some tabasco on my raw fajitas, but I am mostly 100%. I love it, feel great and am noticing physical changes. But my weightloss has completely stopped. The first month I lost 10lbs going from 151lb to 141lb, (I am 5'6") I still would like to lose between 15 and 20Lb's but am completely stalled. I do love my fats, nuts, seeds, avos, evoo, coconut oil, everything that is a healthy fat I love and crave. But I am beginning to think it may be my problem. I love to prepare food and am always trying new recipes, but now that I am trying to cut out fat I am finding a lot of raw recipes hard to do. Yesterday, Monday was my first day of only fruits and veggies, while it was good to have food in its simplest form it is certainly not my perfered eating style all the time. Also, I know that there is the theory that too much fruit can make weightloss stop, but for me fruit is even harder to cut out then fat, so I am trying fat first. And there is no way I can only live on veggies. Life is just too short. Thanks for any feed back you all might have. This site has made my raw journey possible.

Two words - green smoothies.
They will help with cravings for the nuts, oils, and such. You are really doing fine. This fat - the nuts, oils, avos, etc. is the GOOD fat. It's okay to eat - really. And your body will plateau for a bit. Are you working out? Consuming water?

Be careful!!! If you start to limit eating what you are craving....well, there is a reason you are craving it. Your body is working on HEALING....it first dropped the first 10 very unneccesary lbs.....but now it's HEALING SOMETHING...if you start to limit what you are eating, you may sabotage yourself. Eat what you love, and yes, as VEGANFORLIFE suggested, try those green smoothies. By the way, my green smoothies each have a WHOLE avocado in them...and I drink it over 2 meals.....

Good luck.

Hi there,

Smoothies are a great option as well as raw soups. Blend up some tomatoes with a couple of stalks of celery, half a red bell pepper, the juice of one large lime, and some dates and season as desired (maybe some basil or dill or other herbs) for a yummy tomato soup.

Blend bananas and mangoes. Yumm!!

Blend bananas and dates. Super yumm!!

Blessings,

chilove, what a great idea (the soups)! Do you put them in the dehydrator for a little while to warm or drink/eat them right from the blender? They sound delicious.

Thanks everyone!!! To answer questions, yes I drink at least 1, but normally 2-3 liters of water a day,(often lemon), also I am very active, not always as much as I would like due to school and work demands, but on average at least 3-4 days a week, walking, swimming, lifting weights, etc, and I do try and drink 1 green smoothy a day. I appreciate the suggestions, has anyone out there resricted their fat for a period of time and noticed good results. I am thinking I need to mainly cut out oils and nuts but keep avos in my diet.

Hi pinkrosebud,

I'm currently limiting my fats to less than 20% of my caloric intake. I've been high-raw to 100% raw for the past two years (i have fallen off here and there, but it's maybe one meal once every couple months or so), and for me, doing the low fat thing definitely takes the weight off, whereas, when I was not restricting my fat intake, i was actually gaining a few pounds rather than losing. Also, I have less energy when I'm consuming too many fats. I've had great results with low fat raw, so far. The trick is to make sure you're eating something every couple hours, so you're not starving. Alissa also recommends in her book that if your weight plateaus, its a good idea to limit your nut intake, etc. Doug Graham has a book called 80/10/10. I don't know how good it is, but I know it does contain recipes for a low fat raw diet. Also, www.rawfoodbootcamp.com has some great info for doing low fat raw.

Right now I'm eating two green smoothies per day, a big salad with spinach, red pepper, celery, tomato, cilantro, green onion, 1/2 avo, a whole mango, and some lemon juice. In between these three main meals, I'm snacking on nectarines and apples like crazy. :)

Best wishes, stay raw,
Robbie

Try before your veggie dishes to eat several citrus fruits or maybe a pineapple and strawberry smoothie or similar. Even blueberries and banana smoothie can be simple. Then eat the veggie dish or your salad. See what you then crave afterwards, fruit or a heavier food and increase one or the other next time you eat.
