Hi all,
I read an article on the internet regarding filtered water and that it should never be consumed?? That the only purpose of it is to prepare it for the purification process? Does anyone know anything about this? Which is the safest water to drink- purified or distilled? I have a brita filter system. Is this okay?
Thanks, charika

You are fine with the Brita system. I have Aquasana in my kitchen (under the sink) and for my bathroom showerhead.

Me too! Except the kitchen one is above the sink. :)

Hi there,

When I did lots of research on water I came to the conclusion that either distilled or reverse osmosis was best, but I don't think that regular filtered water is all that bad for you. You certainly don't need to stress about it. If you want to you can always purchase a pretty inexpensive home distiller on ebay for about $150.00.

Blessings,

All I know is the filtered water still smells. Maybe it's my location in MD I don't know. I've gotten filtered water from the local health food store (gallon refills), and I have a Brita filter. Stanky, woo! What is one to do though. I put crystals in mine and that takes away that funky smell.

Mine was, until it kept getting in the way. I actually did some on-line research before I invested in a water filtering system and for the money, this system is not bad at all.

WOW - that's odd. How about having it tested?

That's a good idea. The smell could sort of freak me out if I let it.

Hmmmmm. I'd take a sample and have it tested somewhere. Just to be on the safe side of things. How new is your Brita? Have you changed the filter or whatever it is on there? Our lack of rain could be stirring some sludge up from the bottom of whatever/wherever (Loch Raven) where your water supply comes from. My local Health Dept. or extension service tested my water once when I moved into a rental place. I heard nothing, heard nothing, heard nothing for months from them. The water had a "rainbow" colored scum that would float on it and smelled like diesel - no lie! I finally called the HD and they said the landlord didn't want me knowing. You have never seen a more enraged woman then I as I was a single Mom and had two little ones! It was loaded with benzene and toulene and all kinds of awful crap. I didn't live there long after that. Brought in bottled water - hated taking showers, etc.
So - have it tested. It didn't cost me anything - back then...
Sorry to have hijacked the thread, sort of, but I believe filtered water is okay. I'd like to see the article where it says differently. I'm open to any comments on subjects like these.

Lucy, I got the Brita a while ago, and I change the filter once a month, because I use so much water. That's disgusting about your experience with the water and your children. Yeah, a shower filter is also in order very soon for me. Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Hi, I just bought a Pur water pitcher. Its the same price as the Brita pitchers, but works so much better!

Thanks for all your suggestions. I think I'm going to try a different water system. My brita always has these black specks settling at the bottom of the pitcher. If you move the pitcher you can see them floating throughout the water. I've called the company several times and they told me to resoak the filter and to squeeze it's sides to put the carbon back in place. They said that it wasn't harmful ( it's dried cocunut shells) but it's still a turn off. I have to wash the whole pitcher and change the water every two days now, but it still happens. Until I can afford something better I guess I have to just pray that my family and I are safe. Thanks again.
Charika:)

Where I work has filtered water. but if you leave it out over night it gets a nasty sulpher stink.

Since I am into hydroponics I decided to test the water for just PPM ozarka a consistant 20 ppm (tap water is normally 440 to 900)

but this is a nice filter system and the water is 10 ppm at the same tempature as ozarka s it is Partical free but still stinks !!

I will be removeing them from our comany and go back to the delivered bottles

(lol OUR company! please I wish)
