oh dear, I thought it was too easy the last week since I've been 100% raw. Today though I'm having a really bad day. Mentally and physically. Feeling sick since lunchtime. After I had a couple of nut/pepper/avocado/mushroom nori wraps. Actually makes me feel sick thinking about them now. Not sure if they caused my sickness ... who knows. Mentally I feel partly "what a ridiculous idea, I want pizza" and partly I still know it's the way to go. Could anyone out there cheer me up please? Maybe you all went through the same at some point. I'm hungry but all I can think of is Pizza or Spaghetti. The thought of all things raw is really off putting. Maybe you guys have suggestions what you did feel like eating in moments like these?

I would grab a glass of water. Then I'd get busy doing something intense - NOT thinking about food.

Have you made any sweets yet? I've found that a little fudge goes a long way to squish those cravings. PS. have you made the zuccini with marinara sauce yet? That does the trick for us...and you CAN give it a little warmth in your dehydrator. Good luck!

There have been times that the combinations of too much when one first goes raw it a LOT on one's system. So maybe keep it simpler for a while. More fruits. Green smoothies...rest.

Oh pixie... yes.. I think many of us have experienced it! Most likely it's detox mixed in with your body making some adjustments! I did have that experience tho eating raw nori wraps with avo, sprouts and then some with apple and honey. at first it was wonderful then after about 3 bites it was ... omg - gross -I just can't eat another bite... blecchhh.... :o

get cravings like that I tend to think it's some kind of detox going on, though of course I could be wrong. I would suggest drinking a lot of water. If you have a sweet tooth (which I seriously do), maybe make some raw lemonade, get your blood sugar back up a little, and then keep drinking water.

When I first experimented with going raw I ate a LOT of dates - bags at a time. And I make the dehydrated pizza crust/bread to help me deal with pizza cravings. It sounds weird, but I put the rich cheddar sauce in a bowl with a little balsamic vinegar and dip the bread in it. That usually helps with the worst of my cravings.

A week raw is a good long time for a newbie! Congratulations for making it this far! And if for whatever reason you do slip, it's not the end of the world, and your body will remind you how much better it is to be raw!

Happy thoughts!

I hear ya...

I hope you feel better soon. I agree with the idea of the marinara sauce though when you're up to eating again. It really gets rid of the Italian cravings.!!!

Yep...something similar happened to me after one too many helpings of Fettuccine Alfredo. It didn't cause me to want/desire any cooked food, but it caused me to not really want to eat anything and the thought of the Alfredo made me feel queasy. But it won't last for too long...I think drinking water and just taking it easy is a great idea! Sometimes eating a slice or two of pineapple helps too since it's high in enzymes as well as refreshing!

Thinking about pineapple I realise I would quite fancy that. Shame I don't have it in the house. Might make a sweet smoothie though. Defiitely feel v=better emotionally already!

Oh...I remember those days. Yep, I had similar experiences and the thing that worked for me was WARM GINGER TEA to soothe my stomach.

To help with cravings...well, anytime I think about how animals are treated in slaughter houses...that instantly curbs my appetite. I'm not sure if you're raw for ethical reasons, health reasons, or both...but I thought I'd pass it along.

The other thing that really helps me is getting out any Raw books of mine and flipping through them for inspiration. Also...visiting Raw blogs on the Internet...two of my favorites:

www.welikeitraw.com with beautiful Sarma (especially reading her blog, it's great!)
www.gliving.tv (great Raw food demo videos! and great forum!)

Another thing to help is definitely preoccupying your mind if you're having cravings. Play with your dog if you have one, call a friend or a family member, walk outside, do a minute of jumping jacks...I know, they're all random, but they could work for you.

Cheers!

i'm not much help because I actually gave into my cravings and ate vegan pizza last week....an ENTIRE vegan pizza! Notwithstanding, we learn from our mistakes.

This is all just a learning process, nothing to worry about. I have been through something similiar, too. I once made some pesto recipie, ate it, then felt sick just smelling the spices that went into that food..for along time.

Ginger is good for upset stomach, also, being kind to yourself. Pamper yourself well and see if you don't feel a tad better!

Alissa's book is wonderful, I would have given up a long time ago without it! Ginger is great for upset stomach and nausea, as is cinnamon; peppermint tea is known to calm the stomach as well.

Yeah.....I ate lightly sautéed mushrooms yesterday with my salad at Outback and now my tummy feels like it has a rock in it. Can't seem to get rid of the heaviness and sick feeling. Won't be doing that again.

I would try going for a walk. Try not to panic about the cravings. Relax. You'll be better able to think with a clear head, and something simple, such as a piece of juicy fruit, may sound better to you at that point than it does now. I wish you all the best!

Well hopefully you're feeling better by now :) But for later, if the thought of that food you ate still makes you cringe or crave cooked food, just stay away from any similar recipes for a while so you won't get bad nori roll flashbacks and face the same problem again. Like, I made marinara sauce last week and it tasted great for 2 bites then it totally grossed me out. So I haven't made anything with tomatoes since then, and I've been fine :)
