dates with almond butter. for the past 4 days. Its the only thing I can even imagine eating when I want something to eat. In fact, lately I haven't actually felt "hungry" (like I used to). I just feel like eating... dates with almond butter. and thats absolutely it. I felt like I NEEDED to eat some greens (even though I didn't WANT to) so I made a salad. It was an exellent salad... but after two bites... I just wanted to put it away... and eat dates with almond butter. The first 2 days that is ALL I ate. then yesterday I tried to eat something else cuz I thought I was being unhealthy. Then today with the salad. But- ALL I CAN EAT IS: DATES WITH ALMOND BUTTER.
I started to think. Well, maybe I need to fast. since I'm not even reeeally hungry. I probably only want dates and almond butter because of the taste. and i'm used to eating. I've never fasted before though... the idea of going all day without eating anything just seems boring... i like eating. and so i end up going to get more dates!! ugh.
what is going on? any advice? is it ok to eat only dates with almond butter for this long? I mean... I look and feel fine. hmmm. is it ok to fast when you are busy and running around doing stuff?

Well, dates and almonds sure are much better than chips and chocolate! My suggestion is to really tune into your body. Are these foods your BODY is suggesting you eat, or are they foods your mind is craving. I know I have huge problems with questionable raw items and cravings due to actually being cooked. This may not be the case for you though. I'm sure your body will get tired of this routine and will change it. I tend to go in "sessions" of a few select foods. I've done that my entire life. Eat nothing but a certain food for a while, then never look at it for months or years lol. On raw that has happened with apples and also with fats for me.
If you truely want to stop eating just dates and almonds, maybe stop buying them? I don't mean to sound like a brat, just a suggestion. I've had to do that too, don't worry!
Oh, how long have you been raw? Could you be eating for emotinoal reasons? if so, can you tune into what those feelings are instead of eating them away?
As for fasting, if you're busy, do a juice fast if you feel that is the calling. Water fasting requres the most rest.

Apples and Tahini are that for me.
I don't know why.
But don't worry about it, it used to be banana ice cream for me.
And then it was baby spinach and mushrooms. (Weird one huh?)
Go with the raw flow....but MAYBE supplement with a green powder.

dreamrawalwz: I actualy DON'T want to stop eating dates and almond butter. thats the point- its actualy the only thing I want to eat. I was just wondering if this could be detrimental for my health. however, the week before i was having 2 green smoothies a day with spinach AND green food powder. so... maybe that is why i don't feel bad even though i've just been eating dates and almond butter. also why i don't actually feel too hungry. I probably got super mineralized from those smoothies?
but... i've suspected that I could be eating just for emotional reasons. In fact... ok, here is the confession. its def for emotional/girl reasons (was on my period earlier in the week AND my pathetic ex-boyfriend has been using my apt as a free hotel for the past week). Dates and almond butter = my replacement for chocolate?... sugar- check. fat- check. makes sense.
well, at least I know that is what it is... and... I can work on it. At least I never ever get cravings for cooked food.
i'm kicking the ex-boyfriend out on wednesday so we'll see what happens with my stress levels after that. ...I predict a lower-sugary-fatty future.
ok... i feel better now. i'm normal.

I'd just like to ad that I can relate. I recently made Alissa's fudge balls for the first time (dates, almond butter, and cacao powder) and could not stop eating it. I'd been raw for 40 days and the taste of the fudge was such a wonderful feeling for my taste buds I did not want to stop!! I made one batch, ate all of it in 3 days, then made another batch and at that all up pretty quickly too. I don't think it's bad to go for long periods only eating one thing. But eventually you'll need nutrients you are lacking. As long as you change things up after a while, I would think you'd be fine!!

I just love that with raw your body kind of tells you what it wants or needs. There have been times for me that I will go for days craving and eating the exact same raw foods. Like for a few days now I have been having serious cravings for watermelon and canteloupe. I can't get enough.
Another thing that has happened is that I have started craving some things that I never liked before - like raw olives. Before raw I could not stand olives, raw or otherwise. Now I like the taste. I love salt so I keep wondering if the olives are giving me that salty taste that I have always craved. I don't know what it is but I'm sure eating raw olives on my food is WAY healthier than loading up my food with salt. In fact the only time I use even a little salt now is when I sprinkle a little on my salads. And if I don't use salt on my salads I don't really miss it.
I could be wrong, but I say as long as it's raw I think you should just eat what your body is telling you to eat-these cravings always pass.;)

plus even if the dates and almond butter thing is bad, eventually ur body will get sick of it and slap you in the face, and then you will have one more lesson learned. for the 1st 3 months raw, i ate 10 apples before bed every night. or nuts. or somthing else. its a lifelong habit. finally i just got sick of being constipated and (for the most part) stopped doing it. some pepole are slow learners, me being one of them. its all good

So eat it. Don't worry, your body will crave something else in a few days.
PS. My current craving is green peas!!!!!!???????

I've never been able to find FRESH peas (EVER. Like, I've NEVER seen a fresh pea.)
So I've been eating tons of frozen peas too!

Sometimes you can find them in the pod (you have to shell them yourself)
but I've been eating bowls of the frozen ones...uh, thawed. LOL

Me too! No salt added, just frozen unblanched peas....yummyyyyy
I eat them frozen initially, but it's so hot here that they thaw in a couple minutes haha

Try green smoothies. You can STILL have your dates, but at least you'd be getting your greens and such...

I was wondering about the same. All I crave is fruit and almond butter.
I've been eating tons of fruit, fruit, fruit. Melons, berries, kiwis, citrus, tropical fruits...I just put it all in a vitamix with some raw almond milk, MSM and a handful of spinach.
Am I consuming too much sugar? If you do research on the net, that is what they all say. Fruit is bad, too much sugar, your body will convert it to fat....
But I am unsure how to take this because it is from people who eat conventionally SAD.
Any insight?
