OK, count me in. I still have a few items of SAD food in my kitchen and I will throw those out before Wednesday August 1st. One of the items to throw out is the SAD Ranch Dressing that I use as a vegetable dip mostly for red bell peppers and mushrooms. That means I will have to find a raw veggie dip. This should be fun, challenging, and very satisfying if I can get these last few items out of my diet. The garbage truck picks up on my street on Tuesdays and I will get the offending SAD items on the truck and headed down the street away from my future at which time I will cheerfully wave goodbye.
Nothing ventured - nothing gained. :)

Okay last month I said that I was in and then I totally dropped out and "relapsed" due to a vacation and my grandmothers death stirring up emotions that lead me to SAD.

This is it. I am starting a juice fast tomorrow and I also vow to post every day in order to live up to this promise to myself. My grandmother just passed away with 4 different cancers and I am never letting that happen to me. There is only one way now, and that is raw!

I'll need all the support I can get and am so grateful for everyone joining in on this journey!

I went from an UGLY SAD to 100% on July 24th and haven't looked back. I will have some challenges in August with traveling and such, but I know I can figure it out somehow. I'll love sailing along with the energy of this group!!

Yay!!! Count me in!!! I went raw on July 16th, so August will be my first month completely raw!!! I have to get rid of a couple more things in my kitchen... I don't eat them or anything, they're just still there... i.e. Diet Coke (eeew and to think I was addicted to that crap just a few weeks ago), salad dressing, and Vitamin Water. I already gave 4 grocery bags worth of stuff to my best friend, so luckily most of it is gone already.

So excited about August!!!

Ok....I'm in! Last month was my first attempt...and although I did not hit 100% I did really well-90% (1-2 cooked vegan meals per week).

I've recorded my stats, took a before picture, and had my blood work done, so a year from now I can look back at the month and year that changed my life. I am totally in for August...this is the month my life changes and I don't look back. I'm going to post daily...to keep on track and motivated!

Count me in! I ebbed and flowed during July by having some cooked vegan dishes and seafood. My intention for August is to test the limits of the raw lifestyle. I'm committed to doing something good for my body everyday by way of exercise. It'll probably look like the fitness club 3-4x per week and long walks on the other days. I'm eating simple raw, low fat, low glycemic. Drinking green smoothies almost daily and taking in LOTS of H20). I am so happy and grateful now that my body is in perfect-gorgeous-divine balance!

I'm somewhat new to this forum. Though I've been reading posts and searching for some guidelines to the 30 Day Raw Challenge, I haven't found any. While this might sound obtuse, is it basically that you attempt 100% raw eating for the 30 days? Is there anything else involved?

Thanks!

I'm in! I'm new here but have been planning my August challenge for weeks! This will be my first time trying to go 100% raw! I'm very nervous and I am the only one in my family that will be raw. I have told my dh not to offer me anything I can't have! The hard part is that I will still be cooking the meals for my family. I feel confident that I can do this but the detox part scares me. I love my green smoothies so I will be sucking those down hopefully while they eat cooked food!

Hey!! What a great start!
Starfire: Sure call me MOM......and you forgot my name on that list!!;)

Morn: Did you fast for the WHOLE month?? Great job, I admire you sooo much! You have totally transformed girl!!! Did you juice?? Make sure you take it easy those first few days until your digestive system "wakes up"...or you'll have serious bathroom issues...and I mean NOT going...which to me is the worst kind....:(

LifeAgift: How about a variation of cinnamon rolls.....those seem to be a big hit, even though I've never made them....thin them out to look more like a funnel cake...drizzle with THICK frosting???

I'm sooo excited to be a better ME by the time my anniversary rolls around on the 21st! Then we are going to Puerto Rico at the end of September....we went last year, and are going back (with DH's work) and I want to be able to look back at pics and see the difference!!
I want this month to be a TRUE, 100% month....no slips....it's been since April that I made it 100%...it's time to get my rear in gear!!

Great start everyone...I look forward to "meeting" you all!!

I just want to ENCOURAGE EVERYONE!!! One thing I've noticed is that the 30 day monthly challenge starts out like our church discipleship classes....everyone is GUNG-HO in the beginning (yours included) but by the end, there is only a handfull of us left. If you slip, don't quit, jump back in and keep at it the whole month....keep posting and getting encouraged, no matter what!! That's what we're here for!!! Let's see if we can make August the month that EVERYONE finishes!!!

Peace,
Wendi

YAY! I'm in too - I slipped up a little a couple days ago while on the July Challenge - but I lknow I can make it all the way through in August. My weakness is making too many heavy nut desserts and treats and for some reason these things make me crave cooked. SO it'll be mostly green smoothoes fruit and veggies for me, with flax. I'm so glad we are all doing this together. I can really use the support. For past couple of weeks I've had really strong cravings for junk food! I caved twice. Every afternoon I start thinking about some kind of junk food and it becomes all-consuming. It's like an uncomfortable nervousness going through me, kind of like nicotine fits. I want to make it through this phase of cravings.

Why? Because the past 2.5 months, all raw except for a few instances, have been absolutely incredible. I have had so much more energy. I have always surfed every day, but now I'm starting to go for a bike ride and do yoga as well. I also feel very clear, which is helping me be more present and aware in the moment. I've been happier too. Sometimes I find myself feeling great for no reason; it feels good to just "be."

Today I took inventory and went to the store and brought my inventories of raw foods up. I got some very nice avocadoes and tomatos, along with mushrooms and red bell peppers, My juicing supplies were already in ready to go quantaties. I also got my first ever young coconut and watched the video again about how to open them. Here is the link for the coconut opening video:

The only item left to get before Wednesday August 1st is the raw nuts and I am planning to go to trader Joe's tomorrow, tuesday July 31st so that I am ready to go with both feet moving when I wake up on Wednesday AM. COUNT ME IN. I was high Raw last month and found that it distracted me and even High Raw I ate more Cooked than I like for optimal health.

So I am 100% RAW. I have not done this for a YEAR now !! So I will be doing some Lemon Cleanse Days, Liquid Fast Days & Grapefruit Days in the month of Aug, and I am going to step up my long term Parasite and Colon Cleanse this Month.

Tomorrow is Fruit Day and Green Drink only.

I should join the challenge although I still have some canned beans that I wanted to finish before diving back in. I do eat mostly raw food, but there's still those couple things, like beans.

I have counted my calories every day for the past couple months.

I'm debating on if I should keep it up when I restart raw, or if I should go back to how I was when I was raw last year, and not count or measure things.

Without getting into a long backstory, I don't lose weight at the rate an average person does (3500 calorie deficit to equal 1 pound loss.) So i'm gonna be crushed if I don't measure and I gain these couple pounds i've worked so hard for months to lose.

I guess I'll be in for the challenge and I'll finish those things up over time.

I am scared, though, to buy avocados and to use olive oil and have a lot of nutbased things like I did when I was raw last year, just because for these past couple months i've been so dilligent about trying to lose the weight I packed on after I went off raw last year.

ETA: I want to buy a spirooli or a saladacco. I've read better reviews on the Spirooli but it seems they aren't being sold anymore. I went to a couple sites and they weren't in stock. Any suggestions?

I'd like to re-try doing chips and stuff in the dehydrator, and maybe making pasta. I never made chips I liked before, and I never attempted pasta because I couldn't get things shredded or sliced thinly enough.

They seem to have it here: http://www.rawguru.com/store/raw-food/spirooli-spiral-3-in-1-slicer.html

Also, Target (online, not in the store) sells one that looks identical HERE (http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1-1/qid=1185869803/ref=sr_1_1/601-4449446-0710556?ie=UTF8&asin=B0007Y9WHQ) ...I think they even use the same photo, just flipped horizontally, LOL!

Over $40 (after s&h) seems kind of nuts though. It's hard to want to pay that much when you see them for $20 on websites where they're labeled "not in stock." :(

Happy Rawgust all!

I am about to use some sesame mylk instead of coconut water and meat to make my infamous chocolate shake for breakfast.

Hey, all of you that have been doing these challenge for a couple of months now (I did them for a little while and now I'm back). If I typed up my story as to why I went raw and all the changes that I've seen so far, would you like me to do it to sort of help out the newbies and for those who have been raw for a while but may still be having obstacles and such? Let me know what you think? I won't be able to get to it until later today or tonight though.

Hope everyone starts off Rawgust SMASHINGLY well!:D

Hi Everyone,

I've been living the Raw Life at about 80% for over a year. Lost alot of weight. However, when I eat 100% raw, I have tons more energy, can think more clearly and hardly ever feel depressed. And if I do, I process whatever I need to much more quickly.

Tomorrow, my husband and I go camping with family. I will be surrounded by SAD food. However, I will be eating fruit in the morning, delicious salads with live humous at lunch, and raw pizza bread with greens and avocado for dinner and I'm making raw blueberry cheesecake. These are all recipes from Alissa's book. Actually, that is alot of food and I doubt I would eat all of that in a day, but I feel it's important for me to surround myself with delicious raw food to stay 100% on this trip.

Feels great to share with everyone!

Let the August Challenge Begin!!!!

August is here!!

A week raw done for me and I'm thinking I have a new lifestyle here!!

I just had my green smoothie this morning and feel much better. I think maybe I didn't eat enough yesterday. I just wasn't hungry most of the day and felt kind of spacey. I wasn't really hungry in the evening and skipped supper. After I went to bed, I almost couldn't go to sleep because I was HUNGRY. I had already brushed and flossed, etc. though and was just too tired to get up and eat. I haven't gotten a vita-mix yet, but my Kitchen-Aid is working okay at the moment. It whirs up spinach, nectarines, and a banana like nobody's business!

Happy August Everyone!

Love,
Katy

Hey everybody! I am off to a great start, which for me means I haven't eaten anything yet today, and I feel wonderful! Going shopping today, as my kitchen is woefully bare of all but dates and lettuce.

My 2 goals for this month are (1) to only eat when my stomach growls (big deal for me, the ultimate binge eater) and (2) to eat raw when I am hungry.

I am so looking forward to this, and hope everyone is off to a confident start as well!

So does this mean 100 percent raw>+?

If so, I think maybe I may wait until the 8th to start, that will be my marker that I will remember of when I restarted my lifestyle change being it's my B-day. My Journal explains this in more detail. I don't feel like typing it all over again, LOL I am keeping daily track of my 30 day challenge there :)

Ciao
Good day Ciao,
I'm new to this lifestyle...and mine may be a little "plain" but not to me! This morning my green smoothie was made with.....
1 cup water
2 bananas
2 cups spinach
1 peach (I needed to use it up)
and a handful of raw cacao nibs (raw chocolate)
crushed ice

Last month was my first attempt and I did about 80-90% which was great, I live in a small town and am on a budget - so have had to ease into Raw as my lifestyle and budget could afford. The Raw Cacao Nibs have been the best thing ever for me-that time of the month when "needing" something sweet!

Make it a great day!

My husband and I began our newest raw journey last night. I'm hoping we can go and stay 100% raw this month! We haven't tried in over a year, so we'll see how it goes!

I'm already detoxing. Last night's dinner was a salad of organic parsley, carrot, celery, green onion, corn, bell pepper, and soaked almonds with freshly squeezed lemon juice over it. This morning I made us some smoothies from soaked almonds, bananas, and strawberries. Then it hit - pain, sickness, and very odd spiritual dreams when I went back to bed. I'm drinking water right now. I've been feeling really toxic for a while - I think that big amount of parsley is shaking things up!

I hear you! I had a blended salad this am and some fruit this afternoon. But as today is day 1 of RAWGUST, I did not have my morning coffee. And right now, I wish I had a big cup. I just really like the taste of it. Feel like I could go back to bed....Maybe I'll go for a walk instead.

Oh yes, I was so disappointed. I'd ordered Alissa's book and DVD via ebay and had been waiting forever to get it. TODAY, day 1 - my package arrived - damaged box and empty! The seller is being nice and going to refund my money, but I just want the info! So I logged onto Alissa's site and ordered it direct. Crossing fingers that UPS ground gets here quickly!!

Well today is finally the first of August! So happy to be back in the land of eating again! So I started the day off with an orange, strawberry, banana, paypaya, blueberry and spinach smoothie. It was very good. Tonight we are going out to eat to La Shish and I will be ordering a beautiful garden salad. Can’t hardly wait. I am also going to go to the mall to see if I can find a corsette to wear under my wedding dress for the upcoming picture I want to take. Foods eaten so far:

orange, strawberry, banana, paypaya, blueberry and spinach smoothie

There is so much energy on this forum!!!! Amazing.

Shine, I would love to read your story of living the Raw Life.

So far today I have eaten a delicious salad with greens/veggies/avocado and apple cider vinegar. And a couple of spoonfuls of Blueberry "Cheesecake" and a handful of cocoa nibs.

Tonight I will have a green smoothie with spinach and fruit.

Off to continue packing for our camping trip.

This feels so good to be starting out today - I took an early morning hike up the mountain behind our house before breakfast - one local papaya and a banana. Though with all this talk about green smoothies I think I will add that to my breakfast menu. When I have been raw for any length of time I usually start out eating way too much for the first few days - HEY anything to stay raw - then I settle in and eat alot less than I would normally...so going with the flow...I really need to do this..

I would love to hear your story Shine - :)

Ok, so looking at some of the other posts, it seems like I've been eating alot! Hoping this will taper off as I become more accustomed to the lifestyle! So, today I had a green smoothie for breakfast, then grapefruit for snack, scoop of mock salmon pate on a big salad with dressing for lunch, plum for another snack, Ani Phyo's "green power" smoothie after workout, and for dinner, am planning to have some of Alissa's pad thai sauce over zucchini, then POSSIBLY some cherries for later. At least I'm all raw, baby!!
On a side note, if anyone has any advice, is this a good menu for weight loss? I'm aiming to lose about 40 or so lbs., and have been having a hard time of it! Any comments are VERY welcomed! Thanks, and keep RAWkin'!

Today's food:
barleymax
tea (my 1 cup of herbal)
green smoothie...not that great, I had NO ripe avo, and no red pepper! BUT it was drinkable....not TOOO bad.
banana flax crackers with raw almond butter...YUMMY!!

That's all so far....I will probably have some calming herb tea before bedtime.

Hope everyone had a RAWSOME first of August RAW DAY!!!

Count me in! I've been 100% raw since the end of July. I've hesitated to join the 30 day challenges in the past, usually because I was at a good place with the living foods lifestyle, foolishly thinking I'd join the following month. (You guessed it- I never made it to the next month!)

The longest I've ever been 100% is 2 months. Each time I restart, I learn something new to help me on my journey. (Thanks to VeganForLife and Douglas, I've recently realized the value in daily smoothies for myself- NO CRAVINGS! They're so smart, those two!)

Everyone here is so wonderful, and so supportive. I hope to be here still at the END of the month, as gung ho as I am now!

Wishing everyone good health and much happiness on their own personal raw journey!

Go figure. I haven't let a food pass my lips without tracking the calories for months. Today I decide to go high raw and someone asked me if I wanted chinese here at work. I said no. Then said sure why not, one last splurge. I haven't been bad in months. So yeah. Day one...FAIL! :o :D

Ah well. I still have the rest of the day and tomorrow to keep going. :) I also forgot to weigh myself this morning.

If I typed up my story as to why I went raw and all the changes that I've seen so far, would you like me to do it to sort of help out the newbies and for those who have been raw for a while but may still be having obstacles and such? Let me know what you think? I won't be able to get to it until later today or tonight though.
Yes, please do. I am new and can use all the help and encouragement I can get. I joined the RAWgust and so far so good. I'm taking it one day at a time, meal by meal. :)

It is so great to come here and enjoy everyone's enthusiasm! A friend and I went and taught an "un-cooking class" this morning. There were twelve participants and about as many children there. Everyone was very impressed with and loved the flavor of the food. It was soooo fun! I was up early and out the door so I didn't have anything to eat until after noon and boy was I hungry by then. But I have one more day down, which puts me at 10 days at 100%~so exciting~ I feel wonderful!

Today I had
a few bites of peach cobbler w/banana ice cream @ "uncooking class"
a little bit of chocolate superfoods smoothie @ "uncooking class"
a full portion of superfoods smoothie when I finally got home
bok choy salad and sweet nori rolls for dinner
if I am hungry later I will have a slice of blueberry pie

Can't wait til tomorrow to see what this journey brings :) My organice produce coop order comes in... so I will have lots of yummy "stuff" to choose from!

Shine- I am looking forward to your story!

Another newbie (Lal) and I 'met' thru our newbie posts earlier today and after much encouragement, I think we have both decided to just go for it. Someone suggested in another thread that we find support here. So I think we decided that we will start tomorrow. I for one have to hit the grocery asap to replenish my fruits and veggies for some serious raw eating. My hopefully realistic goal is not 100% right away, but more like 75-80% the first week. My biggest obstacle will be replacing my morning coffee with herbal tea. I plan to do a 50/50 regular tea/herbal tea mix for a few days first.

My goals are weight loss, increased energy, and just plain better overall health. So I am going to start a blog and try to keep it up. Blessings to all . . .

OK, can I join. I have been 85% for almost 2 months now, and I would like to go 100%. This is going to be quite a challenge, as I am going to visit my in-laws in about a week, and they are SOOOO not raw. I am going to give it my best shot!

Welcome, april092776! So glad you decided to join us! :)

Okay, count me in for the RAWgust challenge! I'm hoping if I officially join the challenge, it'll get me to remember to post what I've eaten each day so it'll be easier to keep track of which foods my body does/doesn't like. I keep trying to post in my blog but always end up forgetting to keep up with it.

Wow, there are so many posts here already! Rawgust is gonna be Rawsome!! :D (And StarFire, you totally stole my idea of using a Scooby-Doo pic, LOL!!)

Is the idea to post our daily food intake?

Hi all - just joined the rawsome challenge yesterday (I was ready on the 29th!!) and I was FULL ON TODAY - I feel SOOO GOOD - plus I did an amazing Vinyasa Flow Yoga class (mellow Bikram style) today at the studio!

I feel good.... duuh nuh duh nuh duh nuh nuh!!
I knew that I would... duuh nuh duh nuh duh nuh nuh !!!

for those who thought today was a failure. If you tried, it was not a failure, but an energetic practice :) If you chose not to be raw today, then maybe consider it for tomorrow and think of each meal as a representation of your choice to be ALIVE and RADIANT !

Blessings,

This is going to be harder than I imagined and I need some light.

I know how wonderful I feel on raw (even though you get a little soft and jiggly as you shed that "false body"). My problem is that I found comfort and consistency in eating SAD. It has always been the norm for me and I did not have desire to change it because I liked the way I looked and I had a lot of confidence. Eating SAD, I was never overweight and I've always had clear skin, strong nails and thick curly hair, also lots of energy. Genetics I suppose. My biggest problem was I was really gassy and I had IBS. I fought that through herbal supplements and excercise.

Now I have been gaining weight on raw and feel very self concious. I am obsessing over food and very fearful of these changes occuring in my body... unwelcome changes like cellulite increase, food cravings and obsessive thoughts about food. No matter how hard I work out, my body gets softer and softer. I can't fit into any of my clothes anymore. I can't afford new ones.

My senses tell me that happiness is so important, and I was so much happier with my looks PRIOR to going raw. I just don't see a difference except that I gained weight and am fatter. I've been high raw since April. I just don't know what to do... maybe I shouldn't have joined this challenge. Maybe being a SAD but healthy vegan, as I was, is the best thing for me? I need some help!

NYbutterfly -- Sorry to hear of the problems you are having with the raw diet. I guess its different for everybody because we are all different. I found this forum Tuesday July 24th and took to this like a fish takes to water. I was already doing a lot of raw foods, especially juice, when I googled "raw food forum" and found this site. So I guess its been easier for me to get with the program because I walked in here already knowing how great raw foods make me feel. Good Luck.

Shell: Just eat whatever you want as long it's raw and the weight will come off. That's the beauty of raw. Just try not to overdo it on nuts. I eat avocado everyday.

I made ice cream for the first time in my new ice cream maker. So good! Seriously some of the best chocolate ice cream I've ever had! I had it with fresh cherries on top.

Food today:
raspberries
lydia's store bought raw sunflower bread
heirloom tomato slices
salad w/half avocado
3 small plums
apple
zucchini pasta w/marinara
choc ice cream w/cherries

I'm aghast at the news of the bridge collapse! Please pray that they find more survivors!! :(

I just wanted to share a huge event that took place today. We stopped at the mall to Fredricks to buy a corsette and of course left with a few more items that my husband liked. But on the way out of the mall I said I wonder if I can fit into a size 6 pair of jeans yet. So we went into sears and went to the misses department and tried on 3 different brands of jeans in a size 6 and they all fit. I was amazed. I told my husband a few years ago when he said he wanted me to be a size 6 again that IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN SO JUST GET IT OUT OF YOUR MIND. I WILL NEVER BE A SIZE 6 AGAIN AND NOW HERE I AM FITTING INTO A 6. I am so happy today! So anyway my husband bought me 2 pairs of jeans too! Oh and the SALAD was fabulous - kind of like a little piece of heaven! It felt good to chew again!:D

I hear you ! I have had a similar experience except I gained no weight, but I got softer about 6 months into Raw and stayed that way till recently. I am starting to get back some of my previous hardness in my upper body, my lower has a way to go.

So I had to look at my raw diet to come up with the reason. And was I blaming Raw Diet when there were other changes going on...Age, Change in my Work out, inadequate Protein intake (I supplement with Master Amino Pattern S.O.N...yes I know this supplement , while whole and no synthetic, it is not "raw") but it has made a difference in my "look". I went from eating the standard protein diet favored by bodybuilders to a rock bottom amount for over a year. While I do not promote high protein I knew I need at least the min standard plus a little for my work outs !

Last but not least I had to come to the conclusion that I had other issues because even Raw my cellulite increased and I still has gas, ibs and food allergy. I figured using all organic food and beauty products would reduce toxins, thus the cellulite would go. But alas my body is more toxic than I thought and have had to do varios cleanse( I addressed this in a recent cellulite thread)

So what is the basics of your diet ? work out ?

email me if you want !

Today started out so smooth but has had a rough ending. I was planning on a nice raw meal for dinner but as it turned out I had to skip dinner and my S/O ended up doing fast food with the 3 kids. I have stuck to being raw but at this moment I am starving and worn out. It would be so easy to run to the fridge and start eating SAD. But I can't let myself do that.

I have spent the past 5 hours working down at the bridge collapse in Minneapolis and will have to be there again in the morning. My heart goes out to everyone involved in this and to their family and loved ones.

Tomorrow is going to be a long day... anyone have any suggestions oh how to kickstart my morning with a boost of extra energy?

I am going to pack my bag full of fresh fruits that I can grab and eat when I have the time.

Day one! Congratulations everyone! Whether you ate raw or not, we finished day one! :)

I feel so much energy and motivation in this thread. It's amazing. Thanks everyone!

Today I ate:

Breakfast
fresh-squeezed orange juice
smoothie
Lunch
smoothie
Snack
black grapes (about 2 lbs)
Dinner
2 tomatoes
some tacos (1/2 avocado sliced and put in romaine lettuce "shells")
some freshly shelled brazil nuts

Smoothies were:
6 bananas
4 dates
2 stalks celery
huge pile of arugula

I planted spring mix in my garden awhile back. The arugula came up first. I have a ton of it! I never would have thought it, but it's sooo good in smoothies!

Today was awesome. I felt great, had a nice long surf with pretty good waves, worked on my car a little and piddled around in the garden.

Yes, I would carb up tonight on some fruit, because it sounds like hard work. And in the morning drink a huge smoothie with fruit and greens. Today's carbs power us tomorrow.

Well today I got a new food that I could not eat for years on kind of the skin it has. Cherries. This is on kind of my stomach staple I had in 1987. But I always test things as I never know when some foods will go through all at once. I even have to peel my tomatoes. Last year this happend with grapes. I was a bit sore today. My wife and I went bowling 4 times in 3 days and bowled 25 games each. We sure had a Fantastic time too. I can't wait to do it again next week too. Sun, Mon, Tue, are the bowling days. I brought a green smoothie, water, bannanas, So I was ready for anything. Today went real easy like always. Just a kick back day. I had 3 smoothies, One nice tomato and Avacado salad it was real good. One of my favorates for sure. I had a peach, two opracots, and cherries, One quart lemon juice and one grapefruits juice fresh like always. and lots of water. Oh and I lost one more pound too. So now I am down to 309 lbs and have lost 143 lbs now. Soon I will be out of the 300's and into the 200's It is going to be fun and I get to share this with you all too. How fun is that. It will be a Blast for sure. Oh and thanks so much for all your Support. I hope others who want to lose weight will see my posts and then want to go raw too. Well be back soon for more Doug in Calif...100% Raw and loving it.

Unfortunately August has not started off great for me. :( I got so sick Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning and ended up in the emergency room with gastroenteritis and low potassium. (Luckily my potassium wasn't too low since I've been eating so many fruits, veggies, and nuts!) In the past 40-ish hours all i've eaten is 2 bananas. I'm going to drink some cranberry-pomegranate juice (not raw) to get some sugar into me. I am so weak from not really moving and from using all my strength Wednesday morning to empty out my insides (sorry if TMI). Anyway, the one really un-raw thing I'm going to have to do today is buy and eat some plain crackers. I want to apologize in advance for screwing up my Rawgust challenge right at the get-go, but hopefully will have your support for getting back on the bandwagon once I'm all better. 'Cause let me tell you... right now I feel like CRAP. I feel like I'll never feel like myself again. Even though I know that's obviously not true, it really seems that way right now. So I can use all the support I can get. Thanks guys! I LOVE YOU ALL!!!

Hello All,

Leaving for camping today and don't have time to reply to everyone. And, in regards to gaining weight on a Raw Diet, I do think overtime it's important to reduce the amound of oils and nuts consumed. For me, I need some fats in my diet especially on the days I do intense work outs.

What helped me to release excess weight was Green Smoothies!!!! I use fresh squeezed orange juice (about 2 oranges) with a half cup of water. Then a frozen banana, a bunch of greens like kale, spinach, parsley, arugula, etc. and a couple of cups of berries or frozen pineapple or both. I also added a spoonful of ground flaxseed. The raw greens really promote weight loss if eaten consistently.

If I'm having a rather rich dessert at night with alot of nuts or a recipe that has alot of oil or nuts, I forego the olive oil on my salad at lunch and use only Apple Cider Vinegar instead with garlic and other spices. And I generally keep my avocado consumption to one a day. I will have half at lunch and the rest at dinner in a raw recipe or raw soup.

I also use about a tablespoon of coconut oil in my smoothies if needed. After awhile it becomes an intuitive dance!

Hope this helps!

My OOPS! was last night I was upset emotionally and ate some Cheetos. Gross! Won't be doing that again. Don't even ask why I had those in the house. Never Again.

But I have enough good food to last me a few days and then, I hit the kitchen again....what shall I make next?

Today:
Green Smoothie - yummy
Lunch: Big Salad, lemon dressing
Snacks: Kale chips, eggless with celery
Dinner: Veggie Sushi rolls (Family is having fish, rice and veggies).

I hope everyone has a fantastic, healthy, happy and raw day!:D

Starfire....LOL....I thinkI just typed in "smileys"...there was at least one doing something obsene, but it was repeated on each page I went to! DH and I got a good laugh!

Hi everyone! Welcome to wonderful day 2!!

Nybutterfly: I am sooo sorry to hear about your gaining weight/fat on the raw diet. Wondering what foods you are consuming regularly? Maybe not enough protein/fats??? Sometimes you can actually break down muscle if you aren't eating the best for your body!! Is there something you are craving that you are not allowing because you think it's too high carb or high fat?? This could be a detox phase....I would think that is really what it is. Your body will shed this excess fat....I'm sure. Keep at it and see what happens. Keep posting your foods, because that will help others HELP YOU see if something added or taken away may help your situation!! I go through a period of feeling more bloated and pudgy at the first month or so...and then start to drop it off....I can't wait for that to start happening again. When I was 100% for 2 months straight, this happened to me....so I can relate, but soon I was getting that skinny, skinny, where I could feel my hip bones (for the first time ever!!) and it freaked me out..(and I started eating cooked again).now, I'm waiting for it, ready to embrace it this time!! Hang in there!!

Morn: You HOTTIE YOU!!! What an awesome thing...and new jeans to show it off...that great bum of yours. I bet DH is thrilled too! You inspire me girl! I'm working harder than ever now.....if Morn can do it...I can do it!!! Your pictures are constantly in my head...your before....and your current pictures. I love that you posted pics each month...to show that it was a process, and not a quick fix!!! Thank you for taking the time!!

I'm OUTA TIME!!! I wish I could post to each of you....maybe later....

You all are doing great!

There is no bandwagon to fall off of, just keep on with the raw journey. Believe me, I slipped in July, but kept on with it, instead of waiting for the next month to roll around, and I'm so glad I did!!! Those of you who had a "not so great" first day....well TODAY IS A NEW DAY.....GET WITH IT!!:D ;)

It is almost noon and I am exhausted!!!!!

I got to bed around 2 am and was back out to the site of the bridge collapse by 5:30 this morning. I needed to come home and take a break for a few hours. Thank God for green smoothies, I think that is the only thing that kept me going this morning. I also made 4 extra batches of them and took them with me. I convinced a few people to drink them and they were surprised at how good they were considering how awful they look lol.

I was so proud to come home and find that my teen son and oldest daughte have a few friends over and they worked all morning on designing and printing out flyers to remind people to donate blood and to contact the local hospitals and red cross about other types of donations. After they finish lunch, they are going out in teams to hand out these in neighborhoods and downtown Minneapolis. It is such a joy and warm feeling to see kids of their age group getting involved on their own.

Last night and today have been very stressful but I am happy to say that I am staying RAW :)

I just need a short nap and to refuel on some of our earth's most perfect foods. Then I will be ready to head back to the collapse.

Have a blessed day.

I am still craving Sushi even though I make or have it made without rice and fish. The Nori helps but its not the same. I hate being addicted to something. It makes me feel like I am not in control of my mind or body.

Yesterday:
Watermelon juice (2 cups)
Romaine lettuce, tomatoes w/slivered almonds and sesame dressing
4 Lettuce wraps with diced avocado, cucumber, carrots and wasabi dressing
Grapes
2 Lydia's luna nori crackers

So far pretty good for me on my 1st official day of raw. I ate mostly raw yesterday and 100% so far today. I went cold turkey on the coffee this morning, which is why I think I feel kind of crumby. I normally have 2 large cups of coffee with splenda, vanilla soymilk, and half and half. This morning instead I went with a cup of herbal tea, then a cup of regular hot tea, both sweetened with raw honey (I know it is not technically vegan). I am having another cup of regular now because I hope it will help me be a little nicer to my kids till they nap in a little while! I know that sounds awful, but I am really tired and have a terrible headache and I am finding it difficult to not snap at my two very active (into everything) toddlers right now! I looked at caffeine comparisons for coffee and tea on mayoclinic.com and black tea (like I am drinking) has about 1/2 the caffeine of coffee, so even with the 2 cups of regular tea, I am cutting my caffeine way down.

Hooray for nap time (I am gonna get one too!). Blessings everybody . . .

What service are you performing at the bridge site?

I work p/t for ARC/TC as an admin assistant in charge of volunteer resources. But with what is all going on, I have been at the site mainly helping with providing meals water ect for the service teams and volunteers down at the site. I am a "jack of all trades" down there today as mos of are. We refer the family members to the family care center we have set up down town, we make sure the recovery teams are getting what they need, we direct people to mental health counseling we are providing and to where to go for medical care ect. This evening I am going to try to stop by the family assistance center they have set up downtown and see what help I am able to provide there.

After a horrible (and it was pretty bad.. or SAD, I should say) first day, I had that "all or nothing" mindset when I woke up and my cravings were out of control. I went out and bought kashi cereal and almond milk, and that was my breakfast at about 7a.m.

I am so upset that I have not eaten anything since, and its now almost 3, but I am not even feeling hungry. I don't know if this is wise, but I want to see how long I can go without eating anything. Maybe I will have some of my green smoothie for dinner so that I don't mess my metabolism up and/or increase my cravings all over again.

The good news is that right now I do not crave anything SAD. I kind of crave grapes (which I have my entire life).

P.S- You are doing a wonderful service, RAWK ANGEL, as are your children. Blessings to you!

I'm really proud of you guys doing the challenge....keep it up! :)

I wish I could join in, but I'm afraid of losing those 5 lbs again. I finally feel comfortable with my body again since not being 100%.....adding a couple of non-raw things seems to be the best way my body functions. Bah. (I know a lot of you would disagree with that!)

Anyway I just wanted to wish you all well....have compassion for the body! Even when you mess up...it's a-okay. We are healing, not punishing, ourselves!

Well looks like day 2 now. Time flys for sure. 30 days will pass in no time at all. Just having my first green smoothie for the day so far. I had an ear of white corn before. I love to eat that raw too. It is just nice and sweet. It reminds me of when I was a kid in NJ in the country. I would go into the corn fields and pick a couple of ears off the stalks and sit down and eat them. Oh and it was so good too. It sure was one of them times you never forget. Well I hope you all have a wonderful Raw day. I know I will like always. Doug in Calif...100% Raw and loving it..

Yesterday, was a good day for me. I knew that I had to keep myself busy because I was going cold turkey. So I cleaned, and cleaned, and cleaned, and cleaned until it was time to go to bed. I did take breaks for watermelon, and green smoothies. But today seems difficult. I am having strong cravings for rice. But i don't plan on giving up now.

Congratulations, to everyone for sticking to the challenge. Good Job!!!!!!:)

You didn't "screw" anything up....we have to flow with life, and life happens. I'm so sorry about your day, and that you're not feeling well. It's not a bandwagon, it's a way of life...and it's a journey...we do what we can when we can with what we have at the time. Be kind and forgiving with yourself! Sending blessings your way!

I had an ear of white corn
Day 2 and so far I am 100% raw. :)
I like to juice fresh raw corn in my Champion juicer. I take off the green wraper leaves and then I use a knife to cut the corn off. I place the big end of the corn on the cutting board and start cutting at the top. I cut along the cob "feeling" my way down the cob until I get to the bottom. The corn comes off in long strips fixed to the soft part of the corn cob (theres a hard cob center). Then I put it in the juicer in the long strips. Its rawlicious.

Now ya'll please don't throw food or anything else at me. I've been advised, by numerous sources now, not to post my story here. To save it for my ebook. I've thought, and prayed about it, and I have to agree. However, someone posted some questions to me last night about why should they be 100% raw and what are the benefits and I got a little passionate in my response and I thought it would be best to post my response here.

I said that each person has to find there own reason for being raw. I said that I could tell them why I wanted, actually needed to be 100% raw, and maybe they could glean something from that that could help them with finding and forming their own reasons. I'm not going to go into an exhaustive list here (it'd be WAY long!), but I can give you the gist of it.

I was tired ALL the time. I spent the majority of my days lying on the couch or in bed, because I had NO energy. I was what is considered morbidly obese (100+ pounds to get rid of). And I was no energy for years, even before I was overweight or obese. I felt like a failure as a mom. My grandmother was obese and I remember never being able to do anything when I stayed with her, cause she was always lying in her recliner. That's not the kind of grandmother I ever wanted to be, yet I was being that kind of mom!

I also have a son with autism, while he is doing much better since he has been raw, none of us have a crystal ball. I don't know if he'll be fully independent as an adult, somewhat independent, or still dependent on us. I plan to be there for him FULLY, if it's the latter. I was not going to be able to be at the rate I was going.

I was displaying the symptoms of diabetes, yet when tested for it, it would always come up negative. I would have debilitating chest pains. There were nights that I would wake up, because I couldn't breathe in my sleep, and then be having panic/anxiety attacks, because I was scared if I went to sleep, I wouldn't wake back up. I couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without being severely winded. This was not living, as far as I was concerned. This was biding my time waiting for death. Why was I doing that to myself when I knew God had given me this special child to take care of and love and care for?

Also, none of us know when the end is coming. It could be tomorrow, or not in mine, yours, or anyone else's we know lifetime. However, if it's not in my lifetime, I want to live a LONG life. I'm not even talking about 100 years old, I'm talking like 120-130. There is too much in this lifetime that I feel impressed upon to accomplish. I really feel this way of eating is the way for me to go if I want that outcome. And I don't just want to live long, I want to be able to do at 110 years old what I could do at 40, 50, 80, etc.... I want to be young and spritely at whatever age I'm at.

Believe it or not, that's the brief version of it. That's what I can give you for now. I hope this helps those of you that need it. That is my true and sincere wish.

Well I am new at this. I just had my first day 100% raw and I'd like to join in for the rest of the 30 days. I have been making a gradual transition the past few months from vegetarian, to vegan and now raw.

I am hoping that a raw diet will help me with 2 medical conditions (ulcerative colitis and A.S.) as well as help me lose the weight that I gained when on prednisone for two months.

I've already lost 10 pounds of the extra weight but I need to lose 20 more.

Mostly though, I am more focused on wanting to be as healthy and vibrant as possible.

Today I ate: 7 a.m. 1 apple, 8.15 a.m. 3 dates, handful of walnuts
12:45 p.m.
salad of cabbage, carrots, orange pepper, cucmber, avocado
with lemon dressing.
6:15p.m.
small bowl of cantaloupe,
7:30 p.m.
carrots, orange pepper, and avocado.

Wow! raw corn - I have to get some soon! I have had it as a kid and can remember the sweet taste - its funny how you get away from things that are so good for the wrong reasons...cooked with butter? ugh!

So far so good with me - I have had lots of fruit today - papaya, banana and a white peach for breakfast then took my two pre teen daughters out to lunch at a new vegetarian restaurant in a local town. It was great - one of my girls wont touch anything that was once alive and loves salads and fruit and the other - my little rebel - thinks organic is a dirty word - loves hamburgers and fried eggs - its hard to walk the line of making her aware of what is good for her - when it feeds her desire to go against everything healthy (because we all are)... anyway she settled for a fruit smoothy and seemed to enjoy it...I had a nice big salad - very yummy.

YIKES BANANA BINGE..I ate THREE today ! Thank God I did not get a migrane headache ! (I risk this when I eat too many bananas and I am stressed out two ).

Ate Strawberries, Blueberries, some trail mix, green drink...and opps I ate 1/2 of a Protein Bar then I went Duh  ..this is not Raw ! Awareness to what I eat is important factor I have not thought about in last year when I was 1/2 raw. I got in the mode of is it Vegan and is it Organic and Preservative Free ? (but not always raw..) . Time to put the Raw Cap on again and not slip up ! :p

Today I did Suana instead of workout. I have been sleeping 5 hours a night this week, it is catching up with me in the Gym.

Today I skipped the Bowtrol (cleanse caps) and took Sylvicor, Oregano Oil Caps, Royal Tea and MAP (Amino Acid).

Moncha Moncha, thank you for the support. You seriously made me feel better.

Starfire and Hawaiigal, I spent 6 weeks in Maui (bf's dad lives there) and just love it. I hear the big island is the best. I envy you! Hawaii was the first place I tried raw food, in a vegan cafe on Maui. It was a dessert. I didn't know ANYTHING about raw at the time... just looked at the ingredients and thought is sounded good. But I definitely feel 10000% better than I did the last couple of days. :) Thanks!

So happy to hear that. That's a scary thing, going to the ER. I'm glad you are listening to your body and taking it one day at a time, not pushing yourself too hard. Keep up the good work! I'm sure that your healthy diet is going to make the recovery process smoothe for you.

Just checking in. Not fully raw, yet. The 8th is my official starting day so that I will remember it easier. Been eating about 90 percent raw, or, rather, maybe like 80 percent...but I'm getting there.

This is so much fun!

Wow, I just love the energy on this board. This thread in particular! It's so great to find supportive people, ya know?

I'm so bummed as I can't really start the challenge until tomorrow night, I totally forgot about a couple bills that needed to be paid so...I'm so excited to go to the health foods store tomorrow night though. Get this: I've been learning about the raw food lifestyle for about 3 years now, and lately I've been trying to find green smoothie recipes that I think I'll like. Well, since I've been feeling in my mind like I'm already raw, I'm finding myself craving green smoothies (which I've never, ever had) and watermelon. Talk about the power of positive thinking! ;) Thought that was funny.

It has been another long day here. I am thankful that I have been so busy and will continue to be busy in the near future. who has time to think about detox and withdrawl from SAD. My mind is too busy to even consider thinking about that stuff.

I spent most of my day at the collapse site again. I feel so guilty knowing that at the end of the day I can return home to my family all safe and sound while during the day I come across so many people that are suffering, either with the loss of loved ones or just suffering with the experiances they had during the collaspe. My heart goes out to these people, but my guilt resides with knowing that If I had worked that day, I could have very well been one that roadway when this happened. It is the way I used to to to work most days. I am so glad it wasn't me, but that doesn't mean I am glad it was someone else. (please excuse my emotional breakdown here)

2 days RAW have passed and I have a lifetime of RAW days ahead of me :)

Have a blessed day 3

Rawk - Its people like you that make such a huge difference in this world. A big HUG coming at ya!

Starfire: thanks for the heads up - I actually took a run out to the Waimea Markets last weekend! but it was Sunday and guess what - yep they werent open. Where is the Hawaiian Homelands stand? We are going to Hilo this Saturday so will talk DH into taking the coast road instead of saddle road and check it out...

NY Butterfly - all the islands are so different in character - Big Island has Big Energy too...a bit less touristy than Maui, Kauai and Oahu...we love living here - we are Australian and kind of miss down under too though..

End of day two and starting to feel that good energy coming back. Found myself out gardening at nap time! Yeeha!

Well it's 2:21 in the morning and I'm not getting any sleep tonight. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n221/Coriander74/icon_tired.gif I have to get up at 4 in the morning to shower and go get ANOTHER blood test (levels still way too high on the blood thinners)... then off to the airport I go. I'm having a hell of a time staying away from the coffeepot right now but I know that if I have coffee I'm going to end up sick. So I have water and bananas.

The Clay Aiken concert was a lot of fun. He's part singer part comedian, and he really knows how to connect with his fans. I had a blast, and it was great getting to know my friend Gwennie, who I've only met through online forums.

My sweetheart is planning on driving down so we can spend the day together on Sunday and part of Monday. We've only been apart for about a month but it seems like forever! It will be really good to see him. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n221/Coriander74/love.gif

I'll see y'all Monday night or Tuesday. Be good, be raw, and remember that YOU ALL RAWK!!! http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n221/Coriander74/smilelyface.gif

I'm tired, but I'm good! I had some major amazing things happen last night, so I couldn't sleep until I did something, so I'm a little behind in sleep department. But can I just say, I'm so euphoric right now, I DON'T care about sleep!

Todays' challenges for me will be making sure I eat enough, and get enough water. I know, probably sounds trivial, especially for someone who still has weight to lose, but I'll be really busy, and sometimes I forget lately to eat, even when I'm hungry, if I'm busy.

My inlaws are coming into town today and will be staying through the weekend, so if I'm a little sporadic on my posts, well, now you know why!;)

I hope everyone has a very blessed raw day!:D

Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. I've been 100% raw since July 11th and feeling strong. Yesterday my family came up to visit and I stayed all raw...so proud of myself. We went out to lunch and I ordered a garden salad and added guacomole on top and it was so wonderful. It was hard not to grimace at the others eating their meaty entrees...yuck!
After we had some fun at the beach, we went to this awesome vegetarian place, called The Stand (Laguna Beach, Ca) and we got soft serve ice cream which is frozen fruit pushed through the Champion Juicer (just like I do at home). Everyone in my family loved it!! It was funny too because I got freshly squeezed OJ and my Mom tasted it and she said "This is so delicious, it tastes like Orange Julius. Is there anything else in it." I said, "No, it's just OJ". She couldn't believe how good the fresh OJ tasted. They always drink bottled juices, so they never get to taste REAL juice.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. I just ate 2 grapefruits and some leftover banana and plum that my son didn't want to eat. Probably going to make a coconut/cacao/maca smoothie later, then maybe a green smoothie, then maybe a salad and veggie wraps.

:) Shelly
