Does anyone know what exactly can happen if you eat too much fat on raw
Been raw for abt 2months and my fat intake is pretty high most of the time (avocados nuts oil)
yesterday I over did it and had 5 avocados, lots of nuts and lots of olive oil
-just wanna know if anyone can tell me about their experiences with a fat overdose:rolleyes: - - even if the fats are healthy
what, if any are the side affects after a long period of time

To much fat will make you lazy. there is no energy in fat.
If yo keep doing too much fat you will not stay raw.
and too much fat is not good. although your eating good fat.
You need fat but you need simple carbs for energy from sweet fruits also.

When one first transitions to raw, the avos and nuts are essential. This is discussed often on our show RawkinRadio (RawkinRadio.com). You might also wish to read Victoria Boutenko's books on her family where she states that, her son I think it was, ate almost nothing but avo's for a period of time.
Your body will tell you what it needs. After awhile it will tell you it does NOT want to see/taste another avocado!!! Don't listen to your mind... learn to allow your body to have what it wants and needs.
IF one attempts to curtail foods one's body desires during the transition stages, it will be more difficult to stay raw and easier to go back to cooked foods.
Besides ~ who's to say what is "too much"?

thanks for the replies - you're right - who says it's "too much"
Although 5 avocadoes does feel like a bit much ;) I could feel it this morning.
I was suprised b/c it felt like it would overeating on a SAD diet - only difference was that I knew it wasn't the same
plus i have been really lazy lately - maybe it is all the fat
can't till my body is over it and just wants cucumbers or something

GREAT post Rev! :D
Fat is heavy and takes longer to digest. I can't do too much fat (even raw fats) or I gain weight like crazy and have ZERO energy. I think I need to cleanse my liver actually.. Everybody is at a different place though and some people can eat as much as they want and lose a ton of weight. I SO wish that were me!! :D I don't think eating most of your calories as fat is very healthy in the long run though.

True that yet, the body will want more fats at certain times than others. Eventually it will balance out itself and not feel it needs so many fatty foods. Then, people will be asking if they should be eating so much fruit. lol

Yep, that's true Revvell. All I know is that my body must have really been deprived of good fats because I ate so much of it in the beginning. I still do. For a while I was on a kick where I craved a salad with romaine, cherry tomato, red onion, an whole avocado sliced, and pecans sprinkled over the top. I have no idea why but my body wanted it. I started eating two or three avocados a day and was in pure bliss and after about three weeks it all tapered off. Mmmmm...avocado. I should probably stop talking about fats since I'm fasting:)

avocado is definitley my downfall right now - and I won't even talk about raw mixed nuts. Once I discovered them at trader joes, it was all over

I don't think eating alot of fat is going to hurt you. You're not planning on eating only avocado's nuts and coconuts every day, are you?
Some days I eat up to 70% fat.
Some days I eat 5% fat.
I don't worry about it, because it doesn't happen every day.
I'm FAR better off eating high fat raw than I was eating no-fat dairy and processed nutritionless food.
Avocados have potassium and tons of other nutritional benefits,
and so do nuts, seeds and coconuts.
Walnut (Juglans)
A study of more than 25,000 Seventh-Day Adventists showed that those who ate the most nuts were the least obese. Walnuts are rich in serotonin. Serotonin is shown to make us feel full; so we eat less as a result.

Also, how do YOU feel? If you've been eating high fat, but don't feel tired or sick, then you're fine.

that's amazing about the walnuts - they definitely make me happy ;)
No - I don't plan to just eat avo, nuts and coconuts - haven't even had coconut yet - that could be a slippery slope. I do eat alot of salads also -
Guess I was wondering if anyone had experienced or heard of any long-term affects of high fat
btw all your responses have been great - really helpful

If you stop losing weight, or feel sick...then cut down on the fats.
But I have psychological issues where if I tell myself "I'm not going to eat so much fat anymore!" I end up freaking out, and pretty much binging on fats.
So I just keep it where I say to myself "nothing raw is off limits, eat what you want", and most of the time I'll really be wanting a smoothie.
Because I don't have the self-set rules that I might want to rebel against, I'm more relaxed and can more honestly know what I want to eat.

If you eat a lot of fat during one part of the day balance it out with greens... and then sweet fruits. Or vice versa.

... if I tell myself "I'm not going to eat so much fat anymore!" I end up freaking out, and pretty much binging on fats.
That is the ol' monkey mind's fear of lack or loss... It's so afraid it can't have or it's going to miss out...
This is what I mean when I tell people to get their minds/emotions right around a raw food program. It's also what Alissa means when she says "It's not just about the food". It's not.
So I just keep it where I say to myself "nothing raw is off limits, eat what you want", and most of the time I'll really be wanting a smoothie.
If everyone would keep that in mind...

This reminds me of earlier Hawaiian's diet. Full of nuts, avocados, taros, sweet potatoes, and fruits. They were one of the most leanest and healthiest people alive. That is until all the "cooked" meat fats came in. I just never worry about fat when it is in the raw form. I eat fresh guacamole everyday. It's what keeps me going. I wouldn't worry about it.:)

Yep, that's so true Revvell...I simply just eat...This is the most simple way to live for me and I'm glad I embraced it. I don't bother measuring or weighing anything...just use my common sense (stopped buying brazils in bulk cause I love them tooo much)...My body will actually let me know on its own what it needs - I'll crave certain veggies, fruits and certain nuts. I just go with the flow and eat my yummy fats and everything else.

But it's SO true Revvel! I'm STILL working on getting the "fear" out of food.
I'm so used to restriction: what I can/can't/shouldn't have to eat, and I will have such negative thoughts of guilt around food, and it's hard to break out of.

For me, avocados are not my downfall, raw almond butter is. Once I discovered this at Trader Joe's I knew I was in trouble. I find that if I overdo it on raw almond butter, I feel sluggish and I think my elimination slows down a bit. I also agree that too many fats could cause a slip back to cooked foods...I have been so close to going back to cooked food and usually these episodes occur if I have had too much nut butter and feel sluggish and kind of clogged up.

For me, the abundance of raw fats makes me far less likely to "slip" back into cooked foods. I feel so free, and NOTHING can beat the extreme pleasure from a Young Coconut. Nothing. Those things are....heaven in a little shell :)

so I needed to go to the store and as i walked out i thought it was going to rain - so I ran there and back alittle over half a mile.
Too much raw fat or not - I would not have been able to do that if i was full on SAD junk food
So I think I'm okay now - no longer worried about the fat . . .fo now:D

im different every day. some days i eat hardly no fat at all. other days i probly get 75% of my calories from fat. I just listen to what i feel like my body wants. when i eat way too much fat though i feel constipated and clogged up. but if i eat too little fat, i dont feel satisfied.

All I know is that when I went raw before, I was eating tons of fat...but I never felt energized, was constipated and I kept getting horrible yeast infections. I was 100% raw for about 3 months and then I decided raw was just not working for me......I went back to cooked food. But after reading a lot about candida I decided to take fat out of my diet for a little while, on cooked food. And guess what? My energy came back and the candida has been gone since. The only problem is that I was still eating cooked food and after eating all my old favorites, potatoes, rice and even fish, I felt (feel) naseous (sp?)........when I first went back to cooked food, I threw up for 2 days and I never throw up! Now, the more raw I am, the less I can tolerate some rice and fish here and there. Anyway, everyday I'm trying for 100% raw again and most days, it's fine......but I know that for me, too much fat, regardless if it is cooked or raw is NOT good, and my body is also telling me that cooked is def. NOT good. I have no control anymore. When I eat mostly fruit and greens, I feel amazing and for the first time in my life go #2 like 2 times a day....no yeast infections and tons of energy.. hahaha....it's kind of crazy! But GOOD! Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is listen to your body. Everyone is different, for sure.....but your body WILL not lie.......and eventually, you'll figure out exactly what it is asking for........it's kind of a miracle like that. I love it!

ya i was in mexico for a month eating super simply so when i came back i was eating every fatty thing in sight. i took a quart of macadamias and a quart of cashews, made nut butter, and proceeded to make mouse, fudge, cookies, cheese, milk, ice cream, and just eat all that stuff pretty much all the time. i was getting a bunch of greens and fresh green juice as well, but i was binging of the desserts for sure. i ended up needing like 12 hours of sleep a night, and i gained about 5 pounds in a week and a half. not worried about it, but as soon as i started cutting out so much fat and eating a lot of sprouts i started to need like half the sleep. pretty rad.

My question is, why did you crave that amount of nuts, etc? There must have been SOMEthing missing from your food program imo.
