Talk to me about detox. Just started raw ( 90% to 100% ) 5 days ago. Two days ago I had severe diarrhea. Today nausea (not vomiting). First day or 2 good energy but since then nothing but fatique. Could this be detox and if so how long does detox last?

Hi Styersky!

Loose stools and diarrhea are very common when you first start raw, because of the extra water and fiber that your body is probably not used to. Just let it do its thing and run its course and soon you'll be on more normal BM's.

Nausea, headaches, fatigue, all common too. Welcome to detox!

The length varies with each person. Just ride it out and do your best to stay away from unprescribed medicines during this time. Get lots of water and lots of rest :)

detox to me! When I first went vegetarian I didn't have any symptoms, but in December I was high raw and had some very uncomfortable nights going to the bathroom; in addition to weakness, headaches, and flu-like symptoms. Because I don't stay raw, every time I get back on the wagon I go through some discomfort.

I've heard that we periodically go through smaller detoxes once the initial blast is over, that our bodies will automatically clean themselves as needed if we stay raw.

Length of detox depends on several factors: your environment/what and how many toxins you are exposed to, how poisoned you are now, and how well you take care of yourself. So stay rested, hydrated, and raw! It will pass.

I had the same thing as you when I first started. I had about a week of fatigue, night sweats and freezing all at the same time. Then I had a month of skin problems which are now clearing and out comes a fever blister, my eyes are itching, my right eye is swollen and itching all over so I think I have had a month long detox of something.

Thank you all of you so much for your info. At least now I know that something good is happening and I can stick with it. And that I will do. Thank you so much.

I am like Shoney, on and off raw. Each time I go back I experience different detox symptoms. From what I've read, with raw your body does go through different periods of detox depending on what your body needs at that time.

For me, this time around I don't need a lot of sleep but I don't feel like cleaning when I wake up at 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning like I do every time I go back to raw. I just lie in bed and read or watch movies until I go back to sleep. I am wide awake but I don't feel like getting up and moving around like before. I still wake up with great energy. I no longer have to drag myself out of bed. Also, I am having terrible itching on my scalp. I know that my hair and scalp are clean but I can't get rid of the itching. I will just have to ride that out - and I know it will pass. On the plus side, I have a lot of energy, my facial skin is baby soft, my allergies have cleared up and my depression has lifted!:)

Thanks for all the replies. Very helpful.

The nausea and diarrhea are much better, but no energy or motivation. I am sure this, too, shall pass! I am normally a high energy person and for the last several months I have not been. So I feel that the RAW will change that after a while. I am probably more energetic today than in quite a long time, but still no motivation. I believe that in the next very few days I will feel like a normal person!:)
