Mushrooms: Toss or Salvage?

I am just about to do up some marinated mushrooms, and opened one of those saran-wrapped packages of little brown criminis --

Boy are they, uh, smelly. And quite slimy to the touch. They don't LOOK bad...

I'm not very mushroom-wise.

Are they still okay to eat???

EEEwwww! My theory? When in doubt, throw it out. Compost those suckers...they do not sound edible.
