Opinions pleasse! Can I make raw pb

I ran out of pb (for my kids) and here I can buy loads of raw peanuts, cheap. Am I risking some horrible disease if I make pb out of peanuts? I don't know what kind they are, just Indonesian peanuts. How would I know if they have fungus? And what would a fungus do to you if you ate it? Should I soak them first?

I can also get raw cashews cheap, but right now I have peanuts.

So far I think the only Debate is weather Peanuts are truly RAW or not. There is nothing Horrible that can happen to you by making RAW Peanut Butter. Almond Butter is also exciting..You can also use Agave to sweeten it if needed.

I have read and heard that raw peanuts aren't good for the body nor do they taste good. Not sure where I read that besides on this forum in places. Sorry it's not much help.

The only way I will eat peanuts is if they're raw. I can't stand roasted peanuts!!! :( Besides, the roasted ones make my belly ache & that was long before I ever realized you could eat all your food raw. I actually don't like the taste of any nuts once they're roasted - never have; to me they've always tasted just plain wierd! :D As for how good they are for you (raw peanuts, that is) I have no idea, but I do LOVE raw peanuts! :p

I love raw peanuts. The only thing controversial about them really is the aflotoxin in them (there's a thread about PB in the recipes forum I believe with more information)

Where would you be buying them from? If they are grown in a place and certified as having no AF I think you would be fine. Even if they did , I think you'd survive but peanuts with AF are known to cause inflammation which is why so many people are allergic to it

I just bought some today at a local lebanese market. They were $1.89 for 2 lbs. They don't taste bad at all! :)

So if they're raw, are the shells soft and green like a pea pod, kinda? And are the nuts soft? Someone told me that peanuts are actually legumes??

Oh, sorry, I forget that my location isn't on my posts. I am in Indonesia, so I know that AF would not be tested for, let alone labeled.

What does AF do to you?

I have purchased 100% raw AF toxin free peanuts from David Wolfes site. Yumm!!! Good stuff.
