I bought some kale today that is dark violet and has a ruffly leaf, never saw this kind before, does anyone know what kind of kale it is?

I think I've seen something like that in the store, and it was just called red kale.

Yeah, in my co-op they call it purple or red kale. I've bought it and used it in smoothies and kale chips and it works out great.

Also known as Russian kale. Good stuff! A staple in my diet....:)

The Red Russian kale is not super curly. It has kind of jagged edges, but the leaf is a little smoother than the impression I'm getting from garden granny when she says ruffly. The color of Red Russian kale is not dark violet either.
You could try looking at some seed sites if you want a full identification, or maybe some one has the answer. As 'locs said the stores probably would call it red kale or purple kale.

I found a link with a picture, its red kale. It's such a pretty color and great in a smoothie. :)
