Today is my first day of my personal 30 day 100% raw food challenge, so I've been browsing the forum a big part of the day for ideas, knowledge, inspiration, and kept "hearing" about these green smoothies.

It makes so much sense so I went and bought some more produce and went at it. I started with a small amount of spinach to make sure I could handle the flavor, and oh man, it was DELICIOUS! Tomorrow's will be getting a heftier portion of greens for sure. Mmm.

I used:
-big handful of spinach
-2 bananas
-2 small apricots
-5 strawberries

Sooo good. So, thanks for everyone that ever posted about their own green smoothies. Thanks to you I now know about this wonderful food and am already seeing them as a daily thing. yum yum yum.

Hey HB! Welcome! You will so benefit from your 30-day challenge that you will want to continue on beyond your goal! And so glad you like your green smoothies. Have you read "Green for Life"? See my siggy below - awesome book that explains the benefits of GS's. Change up your greens though so you won't get "tired" of them. I know I never will. They have become such a part of my daily routine and diet. I love 'em too!!!
Welcome!!!!

happybellies, they are good aren't they? Even for those of us who don't like banana. I use the whole bunch of spinach, 3 or 4 tomatoes, 1 large cucumber, and 2 apples. Pour it in jars in the refrigerator and just shake and drink. Soooo good.

Doe, they are good. They're fantastic! :)

Veganforlife, thanks! :) I'm glad to be here and I do already feel like I'll want to keep going after my 30 days. :) I just have to take it in small chunks as to not become overwhelmed. I was already vegan before this so it's not as big of a hop but still a really big change because I had not been eating healthy AT ALL lately. My body will thank me and I'm trying to learn to be better about knowing I deserve to feel good. So yay! Thanks for the tip on switching up my greens. I'll be sure to do that. I might stick to spinach for awhile in the beginning since it's readily available and one of the greens I actually like a lot (i'm such a fruit eater), but then will keep reading more and branch out. I did see that book posted somewhere else in the community and looked it up. I'd love to read it so will try to get my hands on a copy soon. Oh my I go on. Thanks again! :)

The biggest surprise for me with green smoothies is that they do not taste "green". All I can taste is the fruit. Well, if I use spinach, I can taste a little green, but romaine lettuce or collard greens blend up rather nicely and all I can taste is the banana.

I was waiting on my book & DVD to arrive before I attempted my first green smoothy (I like to do all the research I can before jumping in) but your post inspired me to ask how you made your smoothie. Did you just throw it all in a blender?

bodaflower, yes mam. The only sweet is apple and it's perfectly smooth, green, and gooood.

hmmm, I do use a vitamix, don't just throw the stuff in jars.

Tisha,
so Collard greens in smoothies are ok? And you SWEAR all you taste is banana?
Could you give me a sample recipe? How much collard, how much banana etc :)

Thanks!
