I thought I'd post one of the effects I've had from drinking green smoothies for the last five weeks or so. I have only missed a day or two in the last 5 weeks.

The effect has to do with my fingernails. For years I was a chronic nail-biter, which left my nails in pretty bad shape. So even when I let them grow out a tiny bit, they would peel and split, and rip because they were so thin. While nail polish helped the ripping it didn't stop the peeling and splitting. So much to my astonishment, the last time I had my nail done I noticed they weren't peeling or splitting anymore. It's so strange to look at my nails and see normal looking nails that are not scraggly looking. I had tried many things before like mineral supplements, etc., but nothing worked - until now.

Just thought I mention it. There must some trace minerals in those greens that I wasn't getting before. :D

Oh that is wonderful! Have you read "Green for Life"? Excellent book! SO much is healed from drinking green smoothies. Why do you think I want to be a GS Ambassador? Think about the hungry children, the elderly those that would REALLY benefit from GS's!!!

I'm a hard core Green Smoothie gal. BUT I started out with a few leaves and have gradually worked my way up. I would suggest reading the book mentioned below in my siggie. Also, change up your greens from time to time...that's why a lot of folks get "sick" of green smoothies...

Aren't we blessed to have the knowledge (and willingness!) to consume greens? I just saw someone I hadn't seen for months and he couldn't get over how much better I looked! I loved it!:p

Yes, I read Green for Life. That's what got me started on the green smoothies. I was so sold on the the idea of adding greens to smoothies, that I purchased a Blendtec blender. I had read that even if we eat greens we don't get all the nutrients because they are locked inside the cellulose wall of the plants. A nutritionist told me the only way to get those nutrients was to slightly steam veggies so that wall would break down. But of course it wouldn't be raw then... So that's why I was so happy to come across this book.

I make about a quart or so a day, and drink half in the morning and the rest later on in the day. I'd say I average 2-4 cups of greens, plus 1 cup or so of fruit. I don't usually measure it out, but when I do that's around what it comes to. I don't mind the green taste.

I use all types of greens, and try to rotate from week to week. This week it's arugula, beet tops and dark green kale. I try to use a different green every week; kale, swiss chard, dandelion, parsley, or spinach. Generally, whatever is on sale or what looks to be the freshest when I buy it.

Well, I started about 5 or 6 weeks ago before I saw the change in my nails. It was somewhere around the beginning of June - can't remember exactly. I'd give it a couple of months. ;)

Me too! They really help control cravings.

Yes. The first time I drank one I put 2 red leaf lettuce leaves and thought it was overpowering. Now I can put a load of greens in and it tastes fine. I agree with all the recommendations of switching around your greens and fruit for that matter.

I don't have them daily, I have them on work days, and i work 3-4 days a week. I put 10 oz of spinach into them.

I wonder if that's better than having smaller ones with 4-5 oz spinach daily, or if it really matters...
