They grow in incredible abundance down here in brackish marshes. If I took off in my canoe from my house, I could be back in thirty minutes with a bushel of them.
Years ago I steamed some in a pressure cooker and they were quite tender and edible, though not particularly tasty. If they were seasoned properly, I suppose they might bring to mind something like asparagus.
Has anyone ever juiced these things? When I get my juicer, I think I'll try it just to see what I end up with, since they are right outside my door anyway.

I've never had them cooked/steamed. Can they be eaten raw I wonder? Have you tried that? Asparagus raw - right from the plant is like nothing else! Sweet, juicy, crisp...
