I bought a container of Lakewood Pure Carrot Juice last week at my local health food store but didn't open it until today. I had it in the fridge so it would be cold when I did open it. So, tonight I poured myself a glass, took one sip, and it was rancid. It tasted (and smelled) like tomato juice or something. It was really bitter and foul. Now, I've had carrot juice before but I'm thinking maybe the ones I've had weren't 100% pure organic carrot juice and maybe it's supposed to taste this way? Anyway, I figured I'd come here and ask the experts. Should I bring it back to the store? Is it bad?

Thanks in advance!!!

Also, while I'm here, I posted my very first raw photo/recipe of what I had for dinner tonight: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=23704&page=9 :)

Carrot juice, imo, should be drunk (dranked? drunken?) w/in two days of purchase. You say last week? Umm, yeah, toss it.

Is that because I put it in the fridge before I opened it? Because the "use by" date on it was 2008....

2008???? Okay, it's been homogenized methinks right? Have you ever had it before? When I first had carrot juice, I had it out of a can. It was Naaaaasty! When I finally had it fresh, it was sooooo good and sweet.

I don't know what your history is w/ carrot juice but if it's in a can or bottled with an expiration date of 2008, it's not raw and it's definitely been homogenized. Yuck girl!!! :p

Carrot juice should be sweet and tasty! I have some (fresh from my juicer) every morning and it is good!

Okay, that's what I thought... Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I'm definitely going to bring it back to the store in that case! Even if it was homogenized (which I don't believe it was), NO JUICE SHOULD TASTE LIKE THAT! hahaha Thanks guys!

It contains lemon juice and IS bottled so, at the very least it has been heated and is not raw.

"Please note that our fresh pressed pure carrot juice contains a small quantity (2%) of organic lemon juice and therefore will taste slightly more acidic than fresh carrot juice. The purpose of acidifying the product is to allow the juice to be bottled without the use of preservatives or excessive heat."

Don't know what "excessive" means to them but anything in a bottle has to be heated to avoid botulism.

Ahh, interesting. Thanks for the info Revvell.

And this was definitely not just "slightly more acidic," something was way off with this juice. Definitely bringing it back.
