OK, Day 21... 100% raw.

So far everything has seemed relatively easy. I'm thinking to myself "what's the big deal- just eat fruits and vegtables and raw stuff- I'm feeling better and have lost a bit of weight- not a bad deal". No horrible detox. Cravings well under control. 30 days? Please... I could do this forever!

And then last night I LICKED A POTATO CHIP!!!! I didn't crunch it. It didn't go into my mouth. I just LICKED it and threw it in the garbage. Then I licked another and another. Suddenly I wanted pizza and cheese and french fries and lasagna and garlic bread and everything else I could think of. At that moment I didn't think I would stay raw until the end of the day much less FOREVER. I did manage to pummel myself into submission but it was a effort.

Now I'm afraid to put the tiniest bit of cooked food in my mouth for fear it will trigger a binge. It seems like some people are able to say oops and just get right back with the program, but I'm thinking that I better not even think about it.

Yeah I pray for the blessing of impulse control and I meditate, which always gives me this moment of clarity to decide whether or not I'm going to reach for junk food or not instead of being mindlessly compelled to eat.

You could have, but you didn't.
That takes strength. Now you know you have it, and you can go forever!

YOU RAWK!!!

JAusten,

Pat yourself on the back that you didn't eat everything in site. Whenever I want junk food and I do have those moments, I think about what I want to eat and then I think about how I will feel. It is the how I will feel afterwards that stops me everytime. When I ate junk food before I always felt guilty about it (okay I know not everyone does, but I didn't have the odd bag of chips here and there I had junk food all the time).

I heard this great advice from someone who coaches people on raw food and she said when you want junk food, eat something raw that is your favourite raw food and really enjoy and think about how it tastes. Then if you still want junk food eat it but only have half and think about how you feel. I haven't tried it but hey I'm about to start week 7.

For me the first weeks were the toughest and then it gets easier and I hope someday the cravings completely go away.

I walked into Chipotle like a zombie today. I was depressed and the next thing you know I'm stuffing a veggie burrito down my throat, but I couldn't finish it and felt dirty for binging. I left and tried to figure out some fast food alternatives. The thing is, cooked food is sooo easy to get...even vegan cooked food, while raw is easy to get but there's a feeling that you aren't getting enough, whatever enough is. Anyway, I'm back to raw because I can see my depression spiral if I don't get a hold of myself.

Thank you guys. That is a different and more encouraging way to look at it.

I have trigger foods that I almost always binge on. I just don't buy them or think about them or be around them. Done. Maybe chips are your trigger food.

hey RawPaw you know i used to loooove chipotle and so does my bf, i still go with him, but i just order a raw salad: lots of lettuce, diced tomatoes, spicy tomato sauce and tons of guacamole, maybe not 100 % raw but close enough and i love it. just a tip :)
