i just started taking bee pollen... i hate the taste when i chew it, does anyone know if it has to be chewed? or if i can just swallow a teaspoon of it with water. does chewing it up have a better effect?

thanks a lot for your responses!

much appreciated

I find the taste/texture interesting...but I don't usually take it by itself, you can mix it in with honey (it also keeps better this way, and eventually mixes in to the honey to form a cream)

but yeah I usually mix it in with my smoothies

or take with honey

what are the benefits?? and would this not be technically vegan? are the bees harmed in the collection of the pollen?

ive never tried it but heard its really good for you :)

No matter how it's collected, it's not vegan. :)

I'm with you on the texture, so I either let it dissolve in my mouth with minimal chewing, or throw it in a smoothie.

You can also put it on top of your banana ice cream.

You can buy it in capsules. That's how I take it.

it's not vegan.I don't know much about Bee Pollen but I thought it was just flowers collected by bees so why wouldn't Bee Pollen be Vegan ?

Don't want to rain on anyones' parade here, but just thought you should also be aware of the possible adverse reactions to bee pollen (ie Solace's dh went into anaphylactic shock shortly after ingesting it, and barely made it to the hospital!). You really should check out her thread - it is floating around here somewhere. ~ Cathy

I've heard that it's best in smoothies..
Some like it in cookies, too.

I tried bee pollen years ago. It had a metallic taste. The guy harvesting it was on a all natural organic farm experimenting with earth friendly techniques. Unfortunately I did not like the metallic taste and thought that perhaps it was the screens (as I remember ?) that he processed it on. I also bought some in the HFS and also did not like it.

IMHO - if it does not taste good we are not meant to eat it.

However when I apply that theory to my cilantro juice (yech) as opposed to fresh cilantro I have to conclude that condensed nutrition is not healthy for me.
