So what are the must read books on eating RAW??

I have read The Cure and The Raw Food Detox Diet, both of which have motivated me to start eating a raw diet. However, I am looking for even more direction and guidance.

So what are the raw food bibles out there, that you raw foodies, just couldn't live without?

Thanks!!!

Alissa Cohen's "Living on Live Foods"
Victoria Boutenko's "Green for Life"

These first two are the ones I use the most, then

Matt Amsden's "RAWvolution"
The Complete Book of Raw (or something like that)...
Raw Food Real World
Raw Food Made Easy for One or Two People - Jennifer Cornbleet

I'll have to look at my library

Any Ann Wigmore books, like The Wheatgrass Book, The Sprouting Book

Welcome Kissy Kate,

Best of luck on your raw food journey.

Of course, Alissa's Book is the Bible of Raw Foods. A huge variety of recipes, and a wonderful & inspiring "how to" intro that answers so many questions about raw foods, as well as including testimonials, shopping guide, sprouting guide, etc. Highly recommended!:)

My other favorite is Raw Foods Made Easy for 1 or 2 people by Jennifer Cornbleet because it is lightweight, filled with easy to make quick raw dishes, with familiar, easy to find ingredients. You can easily adjust the amounts to make enough food for a family.

I have several others that I don't use or like because the recipes are too time consuming and include many hard to find ingredients.

Best wishes

Even though it isn't really a raw food book, but the China study was the first book that stopped me in my tracks and forced me to evaluate my diet.

I have it on hold at the library! I am very excited to read it...could anybody give me an overview of what it's about?

I agree David Wolfe's Sunfood Diet Sucess System is great. You can probably get it at the library as well. The China Study is about a long term research on how animal protien causes disease in the body. It also explains how the enviornment has an impact on diet and health. The author really explains things very well so that everyone can understand what is going on. Alissa's book is very good. I also like Dr. Don Colbert 's books like the Seven Pillars of Health and his detox book. Although he is not raw he suggest eating living foods. It is very interesting in all the ways the body takes in toxins; so many ways that we just don't think about.

I believe there is a thread going around about the China Study. And here it is:

The Sober Life by Luigi Cornaro

It's not raw or even vegetarian, but the principles described in it are sound, and it was written by an Italian noble back in the 14 or 15 hundreds I believe. The guy lived to 102 by living a temperate and sober life after being in his own words near death in his mid-thirties.

I'm reading through Green For Life right now, and it's a really good book. It talks mainly about the importance of greens in the diet. Trust me, it's a really good book - easy to read, easy to understand, and very informative.

I agree that Juliano's book, RAW: The Uncook Book, is waaay too complicated, and as such, not very useful.

However, I just got Matt Amsden's book, RAWvolution, and this one is really useful. The recipes are all quite simple, and the ones that I've tried so far are all good. There's also pictures of almost every recipe. It's a really nice book!

I don't know if anyone has heard of this book or not but one of the first and best books that I ever got on vegan/raw eating is called, "Intuitive Eating" by Humbart "Smokey" Santillo, ND.

It is an excellent book with chapters on Intuitive Eating, Enviromental Causes of Disease, Your Nutritional Primer, Enzymes and Health, Eating For Life: From Degeneration to Regeneration, Detox, Transitional Diets, Juicing, and many charts of the values of foods. It is a very thorough book and is 411 pages. It also has some menus and recipes but it is so informative. The book takes you through 3 transitional stages so that you are not thrown into severe detox if you have been eating a SAD diet for many years. It is not 100% raw but he encourages that but understands that not everyone can or will go 100% raw. :D

The China Study is my absolute favorite with "Intuitive Eating" running a close second. I also liked The Live Food Factor by Susan Schenck. This is a large book and very informative. I happen to like books where not half of the book is made up of recipes. If I want a cookbook, I buy one. I like info the most and this one fits the bill.

These are all great raw books, and I just recently got Ani Phyo's new raw book--Ani's Raw Food Kitchen-- and it's great! Though it has a lot of pictures of her in it, like Matt's, the recipes are excellent.

Detox Your World--Shazzie is rawesome.
The Complete Book of Raw Food-- Lori Baird, editor (Has over 350 recipes from the world's top raw food chefs)
Living Cuisine: The Art and Spirit of Raw Foods--Renée Loux Underkoffler (very complete guide to the lifestyle and amazing recipes)
Beautiful on Raw--Tonya Zavasta

LOL, I thought the same thing about her book. I thought it was odd that there was a picture of her eating on almost every page. I have made a few things from her book and they've all been wonderful.

I actually had no idea there were so many books on the subject!

This is wondeful, I can't wait to check them out!

I just love finding info in books, with my highlighter in hand and my notebook...I learn so much better that way than finding info. on the net...guess, I'm a little old school that way...

BTW, I just heard a friend the other day saying that books are obsolete, thanks to the internet, could he be more WRONG??!!

Thanks again!!:D
