I have been food combining for years, and have only recently started the raw vegan diet.
It seems to me to be almost impossible to do both at once!
For example most green smoothie recipes I have found are out of bounds. (so I have been making my own, but they are not actually all that good,)
Anyone else doing this? Have any advise?

Food combining rule doesn't apply with green smoothies since the ingredients are blended together and is basically already "digested". I try to do food combining. When I'm eating fruit, I eat the melon first, etc., I only eat fruit alone. But that's about all I do, I need to read up more on food combining. I'll probably get more "into" it when I get my raw food lifestyle down :)

Most people, when first starting out with raw, kinda disregard the food combining rules so they can stay the course and not feel deprived, etc. Then later as their bodies begin to start becoming cleaner and begin to start letting them know with signs that certain things don't work anymore, they may begin to pay more attention to food combining, etc.

The question is, how do you feel when you eat improperly combined raw foods? Do green smoothies make you feel poorly? I also realize that depending on the resource, food combining rules will vary. I've seen a few charts and they were all kinda the same with some things, but different with others. Also, I have heard quite a few people say that greens CAN be mixed with fruit as they are not considered vegetables but rather leaves or something like that - in other words, they're kinda their own thing and that it's okay to mix them with fruit.

Annnd... you can food combine with raw, but it may mean eating a strict, mono-meal-type raw diet where you eat only one type of raw fruit or veg at a time or you could stick only to recipes that are combined properly like nut pate's eaten in a green leafy, if you wanted a desert you could omit the pie crust and just have the filling, if you wanted to make a sweet nut-ball/bar type of thing you could sweeten with agave instead of dates/raisins...things like that.

But try to allow your body to guide you but if need be, just eat raw in the beginning and see how YOU feel and then if need be, you can incorporate food combining and find creative ways to do it (or not) after you've gotten used to and adjusted to eating raw foods.

It is possible to have green smoothies that are properly combined! For example, bananas and romaine or any other lettuce or celery. Just keep your fruit simple so that it doesn't disagree with other fruits in the smoothie ;)

I learned about food combining a year or so ago (Natalia Rose's book). It says you can easily combine leafy greens with fruit in a smoothie. I do every day and it's fine. With most other foods I use food combining, one most obvious one is don't mix nuts/seeds with fresh fruit or avocado, (result is bloating/gas). :o

I try and food combine but I don't always do it...I always eat nuts around the same time as my salad, and try and eat only fruit with other fruit

HHMMM One of my favorite dinners (3 times a week)

1 -2 of my tomatoes from my garden 1 avo and couple of soaked almonds OR some sprouted sunflower and 1 table spoon dulse.

mix then eat

Never had a problem

I'm wondering - since the almonds are soaked and the sunflower seeds sprouted - maybe it's much easier to digest, therefore the combination is ok.
