View Full Version : Restaurants?
I'm still learning how to "not" cook. Is there anyone out there from Houston who can recommend some raw restaurants? I found only one, and that's downtown, no where near me. Thanks!!!

I too live in Houston, as do a few of us on this board. There really aren't any restaurants in Houston that are RAW. But check out the www.govegantexas.com site. They offer classes (downtown) that teach you how to do raw. I have gone to one. They are really good. They have several this month and next on raw.
What area do you live in?
I live in the Cy-Fair area, around 290 and Barker-Cypress. And you? I think my sister gave me the name of a lady who teaches classes, I just haven't checked it out yet. Thanks for the info.

all the classes with govegantexas are raw this month and there is one next month as well as a fasting class.
the one this saturday is on party/cocktail food. the following weekend is on raw for kids. next month, third weekend is on raw italian. i will be at the ones on party food and italian (sadly have to miss the other).
there is talk amongst some of doing a raw restaurant...hopefully someday. but, for now at least, there are 2 potlucks per month.
the next one is on April 28th. PM me for more info if you want. Also, hope to see you at the classes.....we eat very well during class too :)

Im in coldsprings ,near willis/conroe or cleveland depending if you go 59 or 45 -But I lived in houston for 14 years ,and LOVE IT!
For all you Houstonions...I went to the restaurant called "The Raw Truth" yesterday. Well, actually I drove by, I was too scared to get out of my car! It was in a very "undesirable" area of town. Unfortunate souls were walking around drinking and I believe I saw several extras from some Gangster rap videos. I trully feel badly for people who have to live in those conditions, it's very sad. However, I don't feel comfortable eating there. It was tucked away in a community center, it may not have been what I thought it was. I was expecting it to be downtown or somewhere on Montrose. Oh well.
VeganVixen-I have only lived in Houston for 6 years and I love it too. I grew up in a small town in Kansas (no laughing!). It was a VERY close-minded, so Houston was a breath of fresh air.
Vegangelist-Thanks for the info. I would love to go!!! I will pm you tonight, I got to run a couple of kids to the ortho.

OK Raw Truth, I'd like to see your face under the RawTruth sign, so we all can see for ourselves, who or what is the REAL Raw Truth here.
I think it's YOU, but I could be wrong.
After, all you are such a shining example.

yes, I have been to the Raw Truth once. mostly b/c they are only open M-F till about 6 (all hours in which i am working!). the only time i went was at the end of the day and they were out of most everything tho i do remember one tasty thing.
but, i have spoken to others who have been for lunch that say it is yummy.
yes, it is not in the fanciest part of town to be certain. but, during the day, i think you are fine. but, i am sure that it is a long way from kansas to be sure! i am an inner city girl so it doesn't phase me so much. but, let's just say that the one time i went there, though they were very nice to me, they looked at me as if to say "who let you in here", or, "are you sure you have the right place?" :)

ooops ,sorry! If you want A GREAT atmosphere ,near montrose (the better part) go to the hobbit cafe -a long time favorite!!!!-its like "mid earth " inspired ,my mom went there in the 70's and have LOVED IT EVER SINCE !!!!!!!! You can get the greek salad minus the cheese ,or for non raw they have sandwiches named after characters ,they also have black bean vegan burgers ,and fresh juices and yummy smoothies !!!!!
LOVE IT THERE ,YOU WILL TO !!! (AND THE PEOPLE THERE ARE JUST PEACE LOVING ARTISTS-LIKE ME )
I have been there once and I absolutely loved it!!! And definitely the atmosphere made it even more enjoyable. I love art with a passion (partial to Monet), but I am unfortunately not as much of a free spirit as I would like to be. That is one reason I love to hang out in places like that. It helps me relax, ya know? I hope to go again very soon. If you like Chinese, there is also the Garden Bistro on Westheimer. It is vegan, some raw. But beware it can get very crowded. It is a kosher restauant, and I have found that it is a popular hangout for Jewish people after services. I tried to go last night and there was no room.
