I haven't had a green smoothie all week and I feel guilty. :( I tried twice and both times I gagged. In fact I have not been able to eat any dark greens such as kale and chard. Thankfully I can still eat sprouts and salad greens (even bitters).
I had been drinking GS the majority of the time since I started raw and it was just fine, now I cant even get a sip down. I feel horrible because I know its an optimum food. Is there an alternative to GS? Has anyone gone through the same thing?

Today I didn't have any fresh greens or frozen green smoothie blends to make my GS as my organic produce is coming in today, so I took some Brazil/almond nut mylk added two clementines (my darling), a frozen banana, some frozen cranberries and Alissa's green food powder and spirulina - voila! I've got my freen smoothie drink!

I about gagged with mine the other morning, too.
I just haven't had them in a couple of days. I know that one morning I will wake up and be craving one, and I'll start them again.
I've had raw muesli with almond milk one morning and then bananas this morning. I've kept it raw and have eaten things that make me happy.
For me, I think it's a matter of listening to your body tell you what it wants.

I know some say salads aren't "as good" but I would reccommend a few salads throughout the day or two or three big ones, because you said you can still enjoy those, right? You can always change salads up, add what you like. I remember you saying you don't like sweet green smoothies, so i think salads are better for you. I know exactly what you mean with the green smoothies. I get sick of them every now and then, but force myself to drink them. I have texture issues or something. Hopefully you'll crave em again one day, but if not, salads should be good too.

Maybe it's the thickness/texture you need a change from, you might try juicing instead for a few days.:)

Thanks for the ideas everyone! I will try eating more smaller salads, smoothies with spirluna and drinking more (green) juices.

maybe try making it taste like a chocolate banana shake (with more bananas, raw cocoa and carob... and dates?)
and don't feel guilty!!! all raw food is optimal as long as you have a variety.

I have food aversions. Always have. There is no way I could ever drink a smoothie of any kind. Has to do with the texture of it. Don't like pudding either. I much prefer food that is crunchy.
I don't really like kale or some of the more bitter greens, and I try to avoid goitrogenic foods because I used to have a thyroid problem. But when I do get them in my organic produce box, I do try to eat them.
I got some this past week and I cut them up very fine with my kitchen shears and added them to a tossed salad. I learned this trick with Swiss Chard. Daughter loves baby Swiss Chard. She loves it so much that if we were dining out and I got a salad with some in it, I'd have to pick it all out and give it to her or she'd whine. But she wouldn't touch the big leaves of Swiss Chard. Until I learned to do that with it. Just lightly roll the leaves up and cut into tiny shreds. You can use a knife too. I just find it's easier to cut it right into the bowl. I used assorted greens, red peppers, tomatoes, green onion and a bit of Italian parsley. Everyone ate it and there were no complaints. I just have to make sure I put more of the milder tasting greens in there, like Romaine lettuce.

Don't feel guilty..your eating live raw foods no matter what. I don't eat green smoothies. I've have a few sips of some since my nieces and nephews wanted to try them but I personally don't believe in the combinations..I say just celebrate and hug yourself for eating live foods...when your body is ready you'll crave them again.....

You know---I don't actually like sweet green smoothies or bananas for that matter! I have been just blending greens in water; thats it. I hope thats OK. I still have to have a full meal with it, but at least I'm getting my blended greens in.

oh yuck - I wouldn't fancy plain blended greens either! I'm not too keen on banana either.
Why not make a savoury green smoothie?
Greens, celery, tomato, avocado, lemon and water
or apple, celery and greens.
nice and fresh and delicious and not too sweet either.

Hi. How come you don't believe in the combinations Lavendar? Just curious...
How about some sort of blended soup with greens?
