Raw sounds exciting. Just don't really know where and how to start. Smoothies appeal to me initially. Any good ideas, particularly for green smoothies. I want to deal with hypothyroidism and clinical depression and more specifically weight problems.

Any encouragement, ideas, etc., will be appreciated.

Greetings!!! If you haven't done so already, you might want to order Alissa's "Living On Live Food" book/dvd - it has tons of recipes, and will walk you through the whole process.

With re: to your thyroid issue - check out our own Miss Lucy's "dead thyroid" story http://rawfoodtalk.com/member.php?u=5304 (I'm sure you'll be hearing from her soon)

I am new to the raw food diet plan.. So I have a few questions that I was hoping someone could answer for me.

I am aware that Alissa Cohen's plan is an all vegan diet, however I was interested in including raw fish such as sushi. Would that be considered to be a raw food option? Would that be okay for me to eat while following a 100% raw food plan?

And are we allowed to drink green tea w/ splenda sweetener?

If someone, Anyone could help me out by answering these question I would very much appreciate it! THANKS

Thanks. I read her "dead thyroid" story and it is challenging. I made some dietary changes (but not enough) and my thyroid readings went really high and now my dosage is cut in half and I hope to get more serious with "raw" and make more changes. Thanks for the encouragement!

I have another question . .

I would probably be categorized as a chocoholic for sure. I see that carob is used. But how about cocoa powder? Is it bad for us?

Welcome! You have come to the right place for sure! I started after watching the Tyra show, but it took a long time for my book and dvd to arrive so I just dove in. Start out by eating raw fruits and vegetables. Raw nuts if you can find them, unsweetened shredded coconut, raw honey or agave nectar for sweetner. Aim for nothing out of a can or jar, ok if it's frozen without added sugar. If you have a healthfood store or market you can find raw nut butters, salad dressing, guacamole, etc. Cacao is perfect for a chocolate craving. Try to stay away from sodas and alcohol. And then read the rest when you get the book. That's it in a nutshell. Good Luck!

Thank you so much. Can anyone tell me what cacao is . . . It sounds like it might be a derivative of cocoa ? ? ?

We have health food stores 30 miles or so away, so will need to make a shopping trip there for some items. I started out today pretty good . . . with fresh strawberrries and walnuts for breakfast, salad for lunch. Have to work on a salad dressing and a few changes there but I am certainly more than 50% raw today. Have ordered some Raw Food books by Carol Alt which I hope will give me some good info. Looking for some simple getting started type recipes and ideas.

THANKS SO MUCH, EVERYONE!
