Today's NYTimes reports that several of the big food conglomerates are agreeing to limit or eliminate advertising of certain "junk" or "not healthy" foods to children under 12.
There are several loopholes in this; for example advertising on "family" oriented shows such as American Idol is ok, but advertising on kid oriented shows like Spongebob Squarepants will stop.
Many will poo-poo this move as too little. But I think the good news here is that this corporations are making the move to avoid being legislated to do so. That's good new because it shows they are yielding to public opinion.
We certainly have a long way to go, and it still amazes me that most Americans don't see the folly and danger in not only the nutritional minefield of junk foods, but also the "consume, consume, consume" culture they perpetuate.
The tide is starting to change.
