Hi.
Does anyone know if there is a raw restaurant in South Florida?
Specifically Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale or Miami?
Thanks. :) :)

Not stictly raw anymore, though some regular restaurants are good at creating something yummy. Went to Blue Moon Fish Co. & had an amazing meal & the best-tasting berries ever. The server was so cool in that he knew exactly what raw meant & it was his idea what I ate. There use to be Nature Boy who had amazing food, but they closed. Julio's in Miami has some raw:

I love that show so much that I've been saving the very last episode.
Raw Meetup-no events scheduled now though as things tend to stop during the summer.:

and vegan one:

Hey, we can meet & do our own group. :) Except there's no raw restaurants. There's always Whole Foods. Or Sweet Tomatoes or some other place.

Oops, I didn't see your listing. Most of those are either far away or don't exist anymore. Sublime barely has anything raw anymore.

Bummer. I was so excited when I saw the list. Doh!
That would be great to meet up or start a group.
PS. I'm going to take the chef course on Aug 5th with Leah in Hollywood, FL. Have you done this already?
PS. Thank goodness for reruns! I was so bummed about the cancellation, then veronika mars...why bother turning on the tube now...

My bf I were in Florida in February and we pretty much hit almost EVERY raw place we could find. We didn't go to Sublime - There didn't look to be any raw on the online menu. I think it just vegetarian and vegan now.
Dining in Raw in Key West is NOT an actual restaurant it is the home/business of Rita Romano who wrote the book Dining in the Raw. I think she might do raw chef classes there.
Sunshine and AJ's Food without Fire is gone. At least, my bf and I could not find it. We call the number and asked if they had any raw food and the guy didn't know what we were talking about! I think it is a different kind of restaurant now.
Tree of Zion we drove around to try and find it but got lost and gave up - we didn't have the number with us. I think it might still exist though - I think it might be open weird hours though.
Rhythm n Roots is also closed as far as I know. It was just a juice bar.
GrassRoots Organic Restaurant is very nice! They serve raw and vegan cooked. We got there at the last minute just as they were closing but they made use something to go!
http://www.thegrassrootlife.com/index_files/contactus.htm
Here are some more places we went too that were not mentioned:
The Present Moment Cafe in St. Augustine, Fl
http://www.thepresentmomentcafe.com/menu.htm
Oh, this is so good! We got free cacao cake because it was someone birthday.
Raw Food Underground in Jupiter, Fl
http://www.rawfoodunderground.com/menu.html
Unfortunately, it looks like they are closed for summer! But they had the best raw burrito I have ever had - the raw tortilla shell wrap tasted just like a cooked one. It was like I wasn't even eating a raw burrito! The chef wouldn't tell us what was in it! She studied at Hippocrates. When they open again, make sure you get the coconut cream or key lime pie - they were to DIE for!
A must-do in Florida is definatley :
Glaser Organic Farms Farmers Market!
The market is open every Saturday on the SW corner of Grand & Margaret
Coconut Grove in Miami, FL
305 238-7747
www.glaserorganicfarms.com
This a raw foodists dream farmers market. SO much organic produce (even durians!) and raw dehydrated crackers and breads. It was unbelievable!
A few other places I would recommend if you are headed down towards the Keys are:
Robert is Here Fruit Stand
Near Homestead,Fl
http://www.robertishere.com/
Lots of organic produce - We got some free mangos from Robert himself.
Also, if you have time I highly recommend the Fruit and Spice Park In Homestead, Fl
http://www.fruitandspicepark.com/
Take the tour and the tour guide will pick stuff of the tree for you to try - lots of exotic tropical fruits. Plus you can eat anything that has already fallen off the tree. We had maybe six completley ripe starfruit - nothing like a ripe starfruit!
In the Keys, we got some smoothies at this place:
http://www.bigpinegoodfood.com/
It is a natural foods grocery. It has a little cafe inside. We got some vegan food. The raw stuff is mostly the smoothies and fresh juices.

WOW!!! Thanks for all the info. I live in Sarasota, just moved here, and when I travel around will defiantly take your list with me. I've been to Grass Roots and think it's good and a great atmosphere.
I am the assistant organizer for the Raw Sarasota meetup group http://rawfood.meetup.com/11/. Check out that website for great resources.
Also, on Friday's at Simon's Coffee House in Sarasota there is raw food Friday. It is AMAZING. Very gourmet, probably some of the best raw restaurant food I've had.

Your welcome everyone!
Yeah, my bf and I went out of our way (literally drove for a few extra hours out of our way) just to check out the raw places while we were in Florida.
They were ALL worth it! :)
I went to The grass roots cafe on Sunday for a class on food preparation. Spencer and Sabrina are a 1st class couple and did a great job where even a newbie like me could understand and apply what they taught us a few days later.
If you are in or near Tampa it is well worth your time to stop in there and get a bite of delicious raw food.
I'm looking foward to going back.

I just got the email too. So excited. My dining life opens up when i can take family and friends to restaurants i love too!
I had a fab meal at 'Sublime' in Ft Lauderdale recently. Don't think that was on this thread yet. Its not advertised as raw but if you call 24 (or more ) hours in advance the chef will prepare a 3 course meal , all raw. He was trained in raw prep so it really is great! I had pesto ravioli as a main course and chocolate pudding for desert, with a yummy avocado mixed salad as an appetizer. He knows what he's doing.
Lastly the chef did say he was going to include raw dishes on the regular menu
by Feb 14th.
Meanwhile I am high tailing it to the Raw Food undergrnd as soon as it opens!

No choices for raw at Sublime. It was a set meal, it was $59.OO.
I didn't know they used to have raw before. Its a great atmosphere and the staff is very good! A good choice to bring those health conscious friends that are not raw and then we can get our 'fix' too.

Friends were taking me to Sublime last night. They booked 2 weeks in advance letting them know we had one raw foodist and would be having their raw menu. Again,Confirmed this week with them, re: the raw menu. Then last night ONE HOUR before our reservation they called and said we are not doing the raw menu, until we change our menu.. really not making sense. This restuarant did a 360 in terms good customer service and making an effort for a raw menu. They were not apologetic on top of it??Really bad.

Hmmm, well that stinks.
Until they change their menu? Not even sure what that means.
Does that mean they will be adding raw in the future, but for now it's too much of a hassle? Curious. And by the sounds of it rude.

The 'Somacenter' in Lake Worth is sooo good!It has both raw and non raw delights , a yoga studio in the front of the cafe. Its a funky , wonderful place.
Its located on 609 Lake Av, tel 561 296 9949. The raw chef was there each time i went, (3 days in a row!). Its super reasonable so you can go alot, no guilt! They hang local artists work, there's a courtyard with lots of tables. Nice place to bring raw as well as non raw friends as the menu is diverse.
There's also a evening once a month called "Raw Feast' with a set menu and a theme. For instance March is Italiano;
Fresh herb &Arugula Salad with Creamy Italian dressing,
Pesto Pizzettes,
Spinach Lasagna
and Tiramisu, $35.00!
Great place to hang and read in the afternoons, can't say enough about this find.
The hours have expanded to what is posted on the web..they are open later in the eves now.

if you go, please post. Would love to hear about it.

Thanks for the reminder regarding Soma Center. When I moved back to the area, I found out about it, but I wasn't back to raw eating then. Now, that I'm working at being 100% raw, I will definitely go.
I live in Palm Beach Gardens. What area do you live in? I joined a raw potluck group in Royal Palm Beach, which I found from MeetUp.com. Let me know if you need any information on it.
