View Full Version : Why do I crave so much fat at the beginning of 100% raw?

This is my 2nd go around at being 100 percent raw. And I was really carving fat yesterday. I remember that's what I craved for about the first two weeks of being 100 percent raw about two years ago.

Why do I crave fat more than I crave fruits or veggies? I had no raw nuts yesterday but luckily, I had an avocado & that seemed to do the trick for my fat cravings.

Does everyone crave fat in the beginning? If so, why do we crave that instead of fruits/veggies? Is it that we've been eating the wrong fats & now that we're eating the right fats, the body wants more & more?

I can only give you what seems to me a logical answer to that question and also give you my experience. I am new to raw eating, as well.

Usually, when your body craves fat - it means you need fat. But you don't have to succumb to nasty animal fat.

I think most people who are coming off of a SAD lifestyle can look back and see that they probably consumed a lot of non-healthy, fatty, processed garbage and then jump into eating tons of fresh fruits and veggies and inadvertently cut way back on fat because they might stick to the SAD version of vegetation: carrots, celery, apples and iceberg lettuce. How boring!

There are raw fruits and veggies out there that contain fat: Avocados, Olives, nuts...Yum.

When my body tells me that I need fat, I usually open up an avocado, mash it up with a little bit of lemon or lime and just eat it up with a spoon.

I also know of someone who makes " raw chocolate pudding" out of avocados. She's going to teach me to make it. I'm can't wait!

When you eat cooked food, you are used to a certain sense of satiety after eating. Sometimes, especially when starting out, you need the fattier raw foods to replicate this sensation. After a while (I'm not there yet) you get used to a feeling of lightness after you eat and this is normal for you.

Sounds like that's what your body needs. Listen to the body. Unless it tells you to eat junk food...heee-heee.

I do every now and then and I did not eat SAD crap, trans fat or fried foods (very seldom) prior to going raw. I think I was lacking in GOOD fat if anything which is possible on SAD or a strict cooked diet.

beppa66 - LOL thats too funny!

I hardly had any fat in the house yesterday - just olive oil - and the dh forgot to pick me up some avos so I just downed a ton of juicy fruits & some spinach & seemed to be okay for the most part.

But I am definitely looking forward to my avos today. I really want some fat! And I LOVE the way avos make me feel.

Awhile back, I got to the point where I wasn't craving fat all that much but I also wasn't at 100% like I am now. So I know that is making a big difference for me, too.
