what a coincidence...i am making maraw's off the calendar right now; just got online to figure out how to convert measurements since i don't have any measuring cups...i'm hoping this will be a winner for my nieces and nephew..they loved her maple pecan ice cream (too sweet for me and we used walnuts instead)...we'll see

I know! I thought so too. I followed the recipe. Its odd. I think the avocado made the recipe look more dark than Maraw's pic.. no fair :(

Which recipe did you use? I saw you used one from goneraw.com, not maraw's. Right?

I made Maraw's key lime pie a while ago and it's GOOOOOD! The almond crust is soooo delicious and the pie is very filling. No, it doesn't taste like regular key lime pie but to me, it has its own distinct, lovely flavor. I found that it tasted better slightly frozen (just a little). Maraw has really great recipes.

Hey guys! This recipe has caused a variety of mixed responses more than any other. I have had people tell me it's not sweet enough, others tell me that theirs doesn't turn out as green. I don't know what the variable is, I've made it twice and it turns out the same for me - once with key limes and once with regular limes. Maybe it's the avocado? I do freeze mine right away and I keep it frozen. You can obviously alter the sweetness per your preference.

If anyone else makes it, I would love to hear how it turns out for you. My husband says this is his favorite raw dessert - honestly, that's why it ended up in the calendar. And I promise, I didn't make any photoshop alterations to the photograph. :)

trinity082482, if you do try it again, I hope you have better luck with it next time.

It's on my web site: www.therawtable.com

Let's see if I can find a more direct link for you... here it is: http://www.therawtable.com/recipecoll/limepie.htm

OK, so here's another point of interest, I've never used coconut oil in making this. I know someone else that has though. I always use coconut butter or coconut cream concentrate. Maybe that makes a difference?

And if you still have limes left over, I'm sure Alissa has some recipes in her book you could use as well. Just ask or look around here. I'm certain there are other posts on limes... good luck!

I thought coconut butter and coconut oil were the same thing. They aren't?

Coconut butter actually has coconut flesh blended in. The oil is extracted (it's usually very clear in it's liquid state).

Gotcha. Doing a search online there was so much conflicting information. I did find this finally at Alissa's web site:

"This coconut butter is made from whole coconut meat, this is a whole food, not just oil! It contains the nutrition of the whole coconut; oil, dietary fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals. It is richer and creamier than coconut oil and has the full coconut taste. This coconut butter tastes like white chocolate!"

Hmmm.....I wonder if I could make my own. Nah.

Thanks for the clarification. Bless ya!
